Funnily enough the VOY episode "Workforce" is a rewritten SG-1 episode "Beneath the Surface" about the team/crew getting their memories wiped and made to work in a factory.

I fricking hate The Sentinel. it represents Stargate at its worst when it doesn't even try to be epic or at least a little visually interesting. we never see the invading Goold, just a boombox voice from the sky, lazily tossing some shitty CGI laserblasts on a shitty CGI city whose one establishing shot we keep seeing. whose inhabitants we never see and thus do not care about. the only interaction between Earth and that planet is a tiresome argument that never goes anywhere between O'Neill and the old butthole president of that planet (the homosexual "Nansy Pansy" judge from Boston Legal). there is never any believable sense of danger, at all. nor do I give a shit about the hamfisted redemption arc for some extra from a season 3 episode who is suddenly a main character I guess. add to that the obligatory canadian forest setting and Jaffa that look like used car salesmen in ill-fitting cosplay uniforms. frick the Sentinel

The show was at its best when it stopped trying to be BSG, stopped trying to be SG-1/SGA, stopped relying on the fricking stones to do boring Lifetime drama shit every week, and just tried to be its own fricking thing and play into its very interesting sci-fi premises.
They would have had to bring in better writers. Most of what people hate about SGU was due to writers having few unique ideas and just falling back on the older shows or standard sci-fi tropes.

I can't even remember if the people in stasis pods got rescued in the end or they all died like the ones in Daniel's head it was that pointless.
They were all saved. SG-1 hooked up a power supply to the ship in exchange for Daniel being returned to normal. All of the "souls" in Daniel's brain were put into the engineer dude that caused the whole episode. Then he was put into stasis until their people could figure out what to do with him and the souls he was carrying.

Universe was an interesting plot and has good characters but it suffers from the pilot being borderline unwatchable and that it, along with atlantis, was dropped so the movies would do well.
The problem with Universe was the mopey shit being the center of every episode. Like Scotts abandoned kid being a major plot point in the episode where he is walking around on the desert planet looking for calcium carbonate.
It is unfortunate because I think the writers really tried to right the ship in the second half of season 2, but by that point it was already too late. Syfy was ready to move on to reality tv and wrestling.

Playing Teal'c must have gotten really boring for him so in later season to keep him from leaving the show, he wasn't required to shave his head anymore and was allowed to write episodes that fleshed out his character. It just happens that those particular details weren't really what fans were interested in.
I liked her episode for showing the amazement she had at the Stargate and parade ground salute to O'Neill, contrasted with O'Neill's bored halfassed return salute because to him, at this point he's had so many adventures it's just guard duty, other planet be damned.

Tapping moving over to Atlantis was announced in January 2007, before SG-1 even finished airing and whilst season three of Atlantis was midway through. honestly, it think RDA and Amanda Tapping bailing out in Season 9-10 is what killed it. No issues with the Ori or it's Priors but watching it was a teen with RDA and Tapping gone made me ask myself why I was still watching it. It didn't feel like Stargate. I've always daydreamed about the idea of a small SGA spinoff show that focuses on some lower level team exploring the city.
The problem is a small show wouldn't have a large reach, and having them find some new piece of technology each week would be expensive on the production side, and small, expensive shows, with limited reach typically dont get made.

It's said the Ancients abandoned their CivIRL games. My assumption was actually that they started to question what they were doing to developing societies the same way that the SGA team did, realizing they were playing gods. Given that the Ancients may never have interfered as much as McKay and Sheppard did with the two civilizations they found (McKay did what had never happened before, if I remember the episode correctly, by directly giving technology to "Geldar" so the Ancients definitely didn't interfere), and hated fighting (the only reason the two civs started antagonizing was Sheppard and McKay), they quite possibly had a much more hands off policy about it even before they stopped.
That and the only reason it was a "game" was because McKay didn't know what he was actually doing and mistook it for one, then hacked it into a couple of computers.
They say in the episode some of the civilizations in the "civIRL” database abandoned the oracle table and went on to develop their societies, some where culled and some autistically awaited further instructions like the one in the show.
Now about the wraithh. If they culled those planets with the grid satellites. Imagine they had found the tech and started playing Farmville to maximize feed production.

I can't even remember if the people in stasis pods got rescued in the end or they all died like the ones in Daniel's head it was that pointless.
They were all saved. SG-1 hooked up a power supply to the ship in exchange for Daniel being returned to normal. All of the "souls" in Daniel's brain were put into the engineer dude that caused the whole episode. Then he was put into stasis until their people could figure out what to do with him and the souls he was carrying.

Universe was an interesting plot and has good characters but it suffers from the pilot being borderline unwatchable and that it, along with atlantis, was dropped so the movies would do well.

Universe suffered from trying to be something it wasn't instead of trying to be what it was. The show was at its best when it stopped trying to be BSG, stopped trying to be SG-1/SGA, stopped relying on the fricking stones to do boring Lifetime drama shit every week, and just tried to be its own fricking thing and play into its very interesting sci-fi premises.

The problem is that Teal'c is only interesting in terms of his juxtaposition to other characters, he isn't that interesting on his own.
His son and wife are exceptionally boring. Should've spent the Teal'c episodes getting to know the inner workings, chain of command and tactics of the jaffa troops.
They could've been about him going toe-to-toe against some of his former comrades. The conflicts that arise from having to pick between SG-1 and his brothers-in-arms would've been vastly more interesting than watching another child actor grow up ugly.

Playing Teal'c must have gotten really boring for him so in later season to keep him from leaving the show, he wasn't required to shave his head anymore and was allowed to write episodes that fleshed out his character. It just happens that those particular details weren't really what fans were interested in.

Stargate has always been inspired by ancient civilizations and mythologies and the Ori is clearly analogous to Christianity. Not only is it a move away from the root of the show, but the writers were giant fedoras about it.
It was an analogue of catholicism, which shouldn't be surprising considering America and Canada are mostly protestant. Zoomers forget that atheists aren't the only group that shat on catholics historically, it's only very recently that we got "christianity" as a blob identity.
the ori were just the writters way of sperging out about christians. the initial idea of ancient bad guys who get people to worship them as Gods was great though, and also the logical next step for the show

She deserved better. The actress was told out of the blue that her character was being relegated to a guest spot because they wanted to replace her with Carter, so she told them to eat shit when they asked her to come back for season five.

Stargate has THE WORST history when it comes to adaptations. They almost made an MMO, several FPS games came close to fruition too. All of them cancelled. I did enjoy some Stargate mods on Garrysmod back in the day.

Like Heroine Quest wa a nod to the King Quest games and was awesome. maybe something in the vein of Star Trek 25th anniversary, but with Stargate lore might work. Lost of quest/planets to have adventure on and a main storyline connecting them all.

honestly, it think RDA and Amanda Tapping bailing out in Season 9-10 is what killed it. No issues with the Ori or it's Priors but watching it was a teen with RDA and Tapping gone made me ask myself why I was still watching it. It didn't feel like Stargate. They budget for CGI got better. SGU was a good evolution but it got killed to quickly.
RDA had long checked out by then, he was full on fat bastard by S8. IIRC Tapping had just had a kid which was why she was missing a few episodes.
Ori arc was shit but certainly not because of Ben Browder who really put the effort in with the fights and action. Claudia Black was totally miscast and her character a fifth wheel, Shanks is boring and Judge had so much work done on by that point he looked like a wax statue, his face in the first scene of S9 or 10 is jarring.

Yea I figured during Season 7-8. I just marathoned it over the summer, and knowing that Jack and Carter dips by S9-10 made me burn out during S8. I never did like how they handled killing of characters too.
That kinda pissed me off because they were actual Ancients, I was honestly hyped that they were not a fake out of Replicators. Then they get killed off screen, no survivors and was never brought up again. At least they brought back Asgardians.
Do I have hope Amazon would revive it? Sure, do I hope they just continue with it rather than reboot it, I hope so. Of course the old cast are too old and fat now, so I think it's primed for a renewal.

Checks out. Ronon is a little b***h who always falls in line. Sheppard is like a fricking squirrel. He can chew through anything and survive/win, but you can distract him by giving him opportunities to crack a joke and he will fall for it 100% of the time.
McKay is the real Alpha of the team. Doesn't mean he's the best, but he is the one calling the shots at the end of the day. The 'leader' just save face by giving him permission or making him sit in a corner for an hour after the fact.

I'm not sure how Amazon could reboot it without making their own universe thats more visceral like the violence of "The Boys" with its humor. I mean they could just make a much more violent show with a different SG team entering a dangerous galaxy, which is more action focused, and if they focused on the starships that they have then it just becomes Star Trek. A cross with the seriousness of SGU and the fun of SG1/SGA would be ideal.
