I swear Newman's rendition of Plastic Jesus is by far the best recording of the song. No other version can compare with all that emotion.
I only saw this for the first time a few years ago and it immediately became a favorite. Same with Midnight Cowboy. Wish I could find more movies like the both of them
Try The Great Escape if you haven't. It's got a lot of similar themes to Coolhand Luke, forget the fact it's also basically a prison movie.

This movie is the exact same film as One Flew Over a Cuckoo's Nest. Every theme, the progression, it's the exact same. Now they're both great but having watched Cuckoo's first I struggle to appreciate Luke as much. Now braveheart vs gladiator, that's another example of this is the exact same film but Braveheart is leagues ahead of gladiator. And the patriot is also the same movie as both of those and the worst of the three by good measure. Jurassic Park is basically Alien but with kids screaming and a dumber plot
