As normie reviewers go, they seem more angry about Jane dying of cancer than her becoming Thor, and most of the criticism is based around all how the doubled down on all of Ragnarok's problems of uneven tone, disjoined plot, and too much comedy in moments that should be serious.

Doesn't matter, most people who watch movies don't give a shit about reviews. They see a woman Thor on the poster and it drives general audiences away.

This is the second MCU movie in a row with negative reviews and negative word of mouth. I get that people here desperately want the negative reception of MoM to be because of American Sanchez, and the negative reaction to this movie to be because of Girl Thor, but outside of comic fan circles that were always complaining about these characters being adapted, I'm just not seeing people claiming these things as the reasons they disliked the movies, or the reasons they decided not to go see them.

            >I get that people here desperately want the negative reception of MoM to be because of American Sanchez
Man, I'm very very very conflicted on MoM. I was not a big fan of America Shavez, but the relationship with Strange did grow on me by the end. It did give us a moment where our Strange differentiates himself from every other other variation of him, making him truly a hero. And man, I love Sam Raimi and I geeked so hard that he got to do some horror stuff in a superhero movie of all things. While the confrontation with nati strategically was absolutely moronic... Boy did I love the trademark Raimi practical effects and you know he pushed the very limit of what they'd allow him to do. Plus Bruce Campbell, you can't not love Bruce. If you don't you're a heathen that deserves to be thrown in the pit.

A lot more of the criticism of MoM does seem to be what it did to Wanda, or how unfriendly it is to MCU casuals. While Cinemaphile tends to be divided between people who are for or against villain Wanda, and more anons blaming the movie's huge second week drop on Chavez and the movie not being 2 hours of cameos with occasional appearances by Doctor Strange.

I'm not saying that's what happened here but people in marketing know what people say and what people do are 2 different things. People won't say they won't see a film because of a specific race or sex but they know if happens. The big reason for the woke push is to shame people into buying things they don't really want or better yet, convince them buying it is virtuous.

Same + even your average joe probably has some is the issues that most critics have. My father is probably the most average man out there, and even he felt that the movie was kinda disjointed and too try hard with its comedy.

            Anonymous

America wasn't really an issue in MoM. She was just a walking macguffin without much personality and the actress was frankly not that great at emoting. You could replace her with an inanimate magic gem of interplanar travel and it really wouldn't hurt the movie that much. I realize that sounds like a harsh criticism, but it's mostly just a bland note and the movie has much, much bigger issues.
Likewise with girl Thor. She really didn't add a whole lot to the movie for how much screentime she got, but she was mainly bland and there are bigger fish to fry.

You're probably right, but anons keep wanting to make them the big problems that drove normies away, to make these movies underperforming into some kind of culture war issue, when normies hearing that Wanda and Jane die probably did more to drive them away.

This, it was a mistake to bring Portman back. She was never a good actress and she left the franchise back in Thor 2 thinking herself too goof for it. Once she saw Marvel making some success she wanted back in, instead of telling her "no, you had your shot and you left" they obliged and we got Whor. I promise you Cinemaphile would be complaining 10 times harder about Darcy getting the hammer than Portman. Way she’s played in the movies, I could see Taika styling her as an actual WOO GIRL POWER character when she gets her power trip.

Probably depends on what they give her to wear. If they actually let her show off the big booba for once, half of Cinemaphile wouldn't care how obnoxious the girl power got.

She's like what, around 40 - there are no fricking big paying acting jobs for women her age and she fricking sucks at acting so really why not take the job.

It's so fricking weird people think it's just not okay for other people to make money. So she's making dogshit movies that's not her decision that's the producer, director, and writers, if she doesn't take the money some other piece of shit is going to take the money.

I was listening to interviews with Jared Harris, who is just a fricking god of acting, and he pretty much has an incredibly grounded view of what he contributes - he gets a script and he does it. He slays it because he's a master but he has no fricking idea what the end product is and he tells numerous stories of coyly suggesting something only to be told by the directors or writers "no." As an actor he knows he has pretty much zero input besides acting and he knows very fricking well besides the acting the end product is entirely out of his hands. People ask him all this detailed shit about his roles and he's like "I cannot predict how these things turn out or how my role fits into all this, everything is shot out of order so I barely grasp the plot at times and we film so may different scenes that may or may not end up in the final cut".

I mean frick, the public giving actors credit or blame beyond the acting is utterly delusional.

Not enough Gorr. We needed a scene of him actually butchering a god in between his intro and some of the jokey middle bits. Whenever Gorr is on screen the movie's quality leaps exponentially.

Saw it twice, Gorr was no Godbutcher and all Babysitter. They made him a husk of the Necrosword as the true Villain so he could be redeemed and choose love in the end. While Bale crushes the role the character is nerfed in film, and the first half is so choppy/taika overload that it's setup of Gorr is criminal at best, I get it's Disney but why couldn't you do a montage of the butchering and show him torturing SIF, she mentions BIFROST, and he leaves her armless immediately to go to Asgard. Otherwise it makes no sense he butchers other gods on his way to Asgard. The Necrosword immediately says open bifrost, go to eternity and kill all gods.

      >Gorr/Necrosword was right, all the gods are dicks and deserve to die.

Try to adapt the God butcher arc
    >Gorr is so stupid that he actually painted his evil plan on a cave
    >Gorr kills like one god on screen and two-ish (why was Sif even there) off screen
    >cram Eternity in the movie but rather then have it be Gorr nihilistic quest to kill the top god let instead make him a literal McGuffin that makes no sense if you think about for a second as to why Eternity is a genie
    >Villain can't be villains anymore so a weird redemption
    >Entire storyline about how Gorr is somewhat right and the movie show how right he is but never address or even mention a counter point
    >Thinking that Jane and Thor even had interesting relationship to begin with
    >Plot convinces galore
    >Weird pandering that insulting show marvel constant out of touch is with it audience (really Gay Krog???)
    >Krog is dead weight and painfully un-funny that some people cheer when zeus shot him
    >Guardian just there for 3 minute and basically there so the ads can get more audience
    >Painful un-funny bits that rehash over and over
    >the necrosword is just something that came out of nowhere despite being so powerful to kill a god
    >Advertise a 80s-esq adventure but it not in the movie
    >Thor once more is a joke who can't do jackshit

Rather then adapt a rather epic and interesting movie about thors facing his biggest threat who throwing all this somewhat true shit about gods being a cancer that must be whipe out and thor & Jane question on what they're doing is right and there place as heroes and lover depite one being mortal or a god devolve into by the number MCU borefest that care more about running gags and comedy skits then anything else

See, I didn't actually hate Ragnarok as much as a lot of people seem to. I do agree that Waititi has a big problem with not letting scenes be able to breathe. I really like the comedic aspect of Thor, it had been more relatable to the flat (but more comic accurate) Thor from 1 and 2, but Waititi just doesn't seem to be able to switch the comedy off during scenes that shouldn't actually have it in them.

Ragnarok has its sincere moments, and I think the humor is mostly alright. It usually comes from Thor being this fish out of water, interacting with less familiar characters and settings. Just the overall scenario of Asgard's destruction and the death of old friends feels like it deserved the drama and tone present in IW.

              Anonymous

Yeah, the comedy was great but it really needed a tone shift once they escaped and headed towards Asgard. Normally levity like that is good to offset some really dark shit that's about to happen, but that kinda gets tarnished when you get Korg dropping punchlines during that dark moment.

Normies loved the jokes in Ragnarok and it became popular to dunk on those who didn’t. Taika is the industry’s pet funnyman right now, so he was given license to do whatever for the post Endgame Thor, and that meant giving the market more of what “worked” the first time. Problem is the choice to adapt God Butcher and She-Thor didn’t pair well with comedy, and it made fans feel like Taika was intentionally tweaking their noses the whole runtime.

As someone who enjoyed Ragnarok the issue is with the script and narrative.

Nothing really ties Gorr and Mighty Thor together in a satisfying way. Had they done something like the comics, in which Thor failed to kill Gorr when he was younger, it could have tied to some personal development. He didn't finish business with Gorr properly, and he didn't finish the relationship properly. There's something you could do there.

Should've called it Thor: GUNS AND ROSES instead, honestly

For a man that loves his comedy so much Taika is way better at being serious. Hela and Loki were the best part of Ragnarok while Gorr was the best part of this film.

No idea, the moment I saw a movie was going to be Thor I stopped following everything about the movie, didn't even watch the trailer.

Alter Ego would have made more sense as baby AOTG's first villain.

Make him Peter's even more demented Uncle.
