An impulsive move by a governor because Disney did criticize him making a bad Bill. It's going to go back to normal once Disney adopts and doesn't necessary changes in order to not be doing the activities it was previously doing.

Meh. That's a minor annoyance at best. Disney's special legal status within Florida was a weird holdover. It honestly should have been addressed decades ago, but the visitors payed taxes and had, until the "Don't Say Gay" shit always generated good press for the state (ignoring the occasional alligator attack), so it was never addressed.

i live in the area. disney having this special status is good because it means they pay for their own shit. I'm gonna have to pay more taxes because of some israelite politcian's ego now

So how does this even work exactly? How is Disney not paying more in taxes and permission in this new scenario?

            Anonymous

It's entirely possible and, in fact, probable that both Disney and the state are paying more in this new scenario, thanks to new government oversight and forced integration into county and state resources. That's just how government bureaucracies work.

            Anonymous

Disney had a special tax exemption status from a couple decades ago which means that Disney wouldn't have to pay taxes on services that they themselves provide (like infrastructure, gas, electric, etc.). This was a win-win-win because Disney wouldn't have to pay double for the same service and the county around it (Orange county) wouldn't have to increase taxes to fund Disney's services. Plus Florida would get increased revenue from tourism. But because DeSantis got butthurt because they stood up to his Don't Say Gay bill, he took away that exemption status and now Orange county has to increase taxes and take on the debt Disney accrued over the years.

Honestly? Disney's problem is that a lot of their branding relies on them being top dog and it's hard to stay top dog. They make a lot of money, but they also spend an ass-load of money. Their profitability is extremely murky. I wouldn't invest in them, personally. They have as much accumulated hate as Microsoft but with not nearly as much diversified and unambiguously profitable ventures.

Market correction with disappointing returns on recent movies

  11. 2 years ago
    Anonymous

Disney got real mid real fast.

There movies became mid, the park experience became mid, all their streaming shit is mid. They still charge as if their top shit but its becoming apparent that their becoming less top shit by the day.
Minions 2 just deep thoated anything they've released in theaters in recent memory, their streaming produces nothing of lasting value, universal is going to be opening a park that's basically a couple of wizarding worlds worth of lands duct taped together.

The MCU is loosing its luster by the movie, at best you get a "yeah it was good" at worse its a "what the frick where they thinking". Its clear we wont be ever hitting endgame golden egg levels again and people are getting tired of having to watch three fricking shows just to know what's going on. Star Wars is fricking dead in the water. Kenobi was poorly handled, and while not a complete shit show (Still pretty bad) it wasn't a Mandalorian, which heyday itself feels like its gone by. It became clear the sequels movies became a toxic asset, no one knows what to do with the franchise as they try and fit more content out of the prequels and the OT. The parks are getting more ridiculous by the day, prices are rising to a ridiculous level while the quality of the experience constantly diminishes. The parks are now perpetual human mills, there is no "quiet time" there are no slow months. You pay more to experience less of what you did in more crowded setting. Nothing their making is really blowing off peoples dicks off either. Basically nothing they've made in the past few years made a splash like wizarding did for universal.

The dip won't last but the fact it even got to this point should be enough to tell you shits still pretty fricked up.

They got too big, became a bloated mess of bureaucracy and focus groups, and stopped producing anything interesting. Massive corporations just have a lot of inertia so it often takes them a long time to actually suffer the consequences of their shitty decisions. In Disney's case, this was exacerbated by special protections such as IP law, which extended their lifespan by quite a bit.

It's also worth mentioning that the entire market is performing like shit right now. It's not like Disney is the odd man out because its stock is floundering.

It definitely has nothing or extremely little to do with the grooming bill or the fallout from it like a lot of morons ITT seem to think it does.
