The appeal of Max Payne is that the game is really fun while also telling a cinematic story by 2001 standards, when you just make a movie 'adapting' Max Payne you lose so much in translation.
I was at the San Diego Comic-Con where that trailer premiered. So many people were in line to see it the line stretched out the building and around the block.
Man, some of the shots in this trailer look outright picturesque. That shot with a guy looking out a window while snow bursts in the room, for example. How come the movie sucked dick in the end?
>should have got the guy who directed sin city >should have made it very graphic-novel esque >should have STUCK TO THE SOURCE MATERIAL >should have had the guy who actually played the likeness of mp in the games play him in the movie, with Walberg going his voice over in the form of speech boxes or something
>should have had the guy who actually played the likeness of mp in the games play him in the movie
i love sam lake but he doesn't have the chops to carry an entire film
>Mcaffrey died
wtf learning this now, that sucks man 🙁
i guess alan wake 2 was one of his last performances

Am I the only one who never played any of the sequels because of the model change?
I thought Sam Lake had the perfect look of a guy who lost it all. Scrawny and with a constant painful expression on his face. Then for the sequels they got this clean looking chad and I lost all interest.

You see the character from behind at 95% of the time. Why do you care?? Same reason I play as females because I don't want to stare at a man's ass
God no, he's a meme >but but he made some chunky shit 40 years ago
We've already established they're not that good and using the excuse "but he didn't have a Hollywood budget" is not a good argument, especially since his Hollywood movies are all bad.
Debatable because it doesn't have the atmosphere and the writing is so mid but it's still got fun combat and its the only one that uses James Mcaffrey's face
I still love MP3 for the atmosphere - His voice work - The gunplay is insane(When it fricking let's you use it)and the music is killer. Very clearly inspired by Tony Scott, Man On Fire in particular. The problem I had with it is: Walk forward*cutscene*a bit of gunplay*Cutscene*wa-*cutscene*
The trailer was outright a bait and switch for one - and the actual film was nothing like the games. That trailer was dope though. >You know how you hold your breathe when passing graveyards? >Leave that man alone
It's directed by John Moore who directed Behind Enemy Lines (awesome) and then a bunch of movies that got increasingly bad. Die Hard 5 is terrible.
So really, this comes down to the film being doomed from the start because the director is bad at his job.
>and the actual film was nothing like the games.
That isn't really true. The general meat and potatoes of the plot is fairly similar to MP1. They just play up the V drug stuff way, way more in an kind of a dumb way. People sorta forget that Max Payne is about an evil corporation creating a super-soldier drug. That's what the game is about. But it's not really something people talk about. They talk about crime and noir and stuff.
Die Hard 4 is awesome. Die Hard 5 is a disaster. That said, look anon if you like Die Hard 5 I respect that. The film does have some stylish shots but it's a shocking drop in quality from 4, which used to be a polarizing movie once upon a time.
>I like shit like The Crow and Sin City
we'll never get movies like those again.. and I just got depression more than I already had thinking about that.
They'll eventually remake The Crow. At some point. Probably.
But that's no consolation because no matter who they get to star in it, it's going to be absolute fricking garbage.
I remember it was Bradley Cooper, then Jason Mamoa. I forgot who else was talked about to play Draven. Probably Rob Pattinson.
It's been talked about for like 10 years. That's when I heard Bradley Cooper was in talks to play Eric Draven. Why they decided on the Hangover guy I haven't a fricking clue.
>They'll eventually remake The Crow.
The remake is literally coming next year.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1340094/
Bill Skarsgård is Eric Draven.
Directed by Rupert Sanders (Ghost in the Shell).
Wtf... why did they have TONS OF FIRE in the trailer... then such little fire in the actual scene
Also I could have sworn to fricking god that there used to be a trailer that also opened with Mason's song lyrics "6 am Christmas morning... no shadows no reflections here" can't find it though
casting issue. mark walberg and mila were simply not the right fit. the movie was total shit. but lacked the spirit of the game. Id rather have Clive Owen or Tom Jane as max. and Mona can also be a non famous female. obviously Sofia Marceau or monica belluci wouldve been good.
The truth was a burning green crack through my brain. Crappy dialogue everywhere I went, Cliches surrounding my entire life, a nonsensical plot to my story, that unsettling feeling of having everyone hating this god forsaken tale. I was in a shitty movie. Funny as Hell, it was the most horrible thing I could think of.
they did not give a frick about the game and just wanted to make cheap shitty generic movie for a quick buck.
Same with Mortal Kombat and Super Mario Bros and Resident Evil.
But I think we can all agree House of the Dead is the real tragedy.
>Same with Mortal Kombat and Super Mario Bros and Resident Evil.
It's absolutely nothing like Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil. The last thing you can accuse those films of being is generic. Heck, Mario is especially not generic. (Unless you mean the new super generic Illumination version.)
The appeal of Max Payne is that the game is really fun while also telling a cinematic story by 2001 standards, when you just make a movie 'adapting' Max Payne you lose so much in translation.
It wasn't great. But it wasn't bad.
I didn't hate it and some scenes were fun.
Plus the trailer was fricking KINO
I was at the San Diego Comic-Con where that trailer premiered. So many people were in line to see it the line stretched out the building and around the block.
man that trailer was so fricking cool
This trailer got me into Marilyn Manson
zoomer scum
better be careful old man before i fill you with zoomer cum
I do miss the good old days of being a zoomer in 2008
2008 feels like it was 2008 years ago...
what the hell happened to the time...
what the hell happened to me
Nothing, you're still as young and spry as ever. Go jump on that skateboard, do an ollie. You can do it.
If you were a zoomer in '08, you're a zoomer today, moron.
Man, some of the shots in this trailer look outright picturesque. That shot with a guy looking out a window while snow bursts in the room, for example. How come the movie sucked dick in the end?
that's the only thing this movie had going for it - a trailer.
>lets make a film noir with soap opera lighting
>should have got the guy who directed sin city
>should have made it very graphic-novel esque
>should have STUCK TO THE SOURCE MATERIAL
>should have had the guy who actually played the likeness of mp in the games play him in the movie, with Walberg going his voice over in the form of speech boxes or something
>should have had the guy who actually played the likeness of mp in the games play him in the movie
i love sam lake but he doesn't have the chops to carry an entire film
I think he's talking about Tim Gibbs. Either way movie sucked.
Couldve just use Mcaffrey. Don't know why they didn't just use his likeness for all the games. His voice fit his face
Rescue Me was kino.
I'm praying he recorded dialogue for the remakes but I'm guessing that's just a pipe dream. Frickin' sucks, brew. Loved him.
>Mcaffrey died
wtf learning this now, that sucks man 🙁
i guess alan wake 2 was one of his last performances

relentlessly handsome
>should have got the guy who directed sin city
And not John Woo?
God no, he's a meme
>but but he made some chunky shit 40 years ago
We've already established they're not that good and using the excuse "but he didn't have a Hollywood budget" is not a good argument, especially since his Hollywood movies are all bad.
Rodriguez is a meme? But he just directed Spy Kids: Armageddon, bro
>le pretending to be moronic
John Woo is a meme. He sucks.
Gayest post on this entire site - and that's saying something.
But actually Roadracers (1994) was horribly kino by Rodriguez
>Really guys? You've brought knives to a shoe fight?
Rodriguez gave us Lucha Underground, which makes him permakino
have had the guy who actually played the likeness of mp in the games play him in the movie
They use a different actors for Max's face in all 3 games
>in all 3 games
should Max Payne 3 even count as a Max Payne game?
Debatable because it doesn't have the atmosphere and the writing is so mid but it's still got fun combat and its the only one that uses James Mcaffrey's face
I just realized that he died
w-what
happened a couple days ago
now i'm sad
I hate reality so much it's unreal
He's dead, bro. That means nothing bad can happen to him anymore. He's at rest
He fricking died only 2 weeks ago?
Christ.
Is it wrong that my first Max Payne game was 3?
yes
Why is 1 the best? What about 2? Why is 3 so divisive?
they took a noir thriller and turned it into a south american miami vice
Better atmosphere, better writing, self-contained story. Gameplay seems primitive and clunky nowadays but it's still serviceable
No, as long as you realize that the first installment is the best one
Yes and it was a great game as well
yes, it was basically man on fire which is still a noir.
John Woo's Silent Night is essentially the first act of max Payne 1 (up to the jack lupino fight) minus dialog and snow. It's pretty good.
I need to watch this still how does it not have snow? It's a Christmas movie, right?
It's set in LA. Plenty of kino Christmas decorations though, especially in the finale.
>Theres these criminals right... so lets set the movie in LA
>BUT HAVE A WHITE FAMILY
wtf they wouldn't be dumb enough to live there... would they?
I think his wife is Latina (and so are 99% of people he kills).
IDK, I'm not American, you tell me.
Mark Wahlberg
Nothing
The trailer was outright a bait and switch for one - and the actual film was nothing like the games. That trailer was dope though.
>You know how you hold your breathe when passing graveyards?
>Leave that man alone
>>You know how you hold your breathe when passing graveyards?
that man alone
doesn't even make sense but sounds cool af

awesome?
not a chance.
watchable?
yes, for exactly 1 (one) time.
I like Max Payne
I like Wahlberg
I like Kunis
I like Luda
I like shit like The Crow and Sin City
I thought it was bretty gud 😀
>I like shit like The Crow and Sin City

goddamnit... truly all ideas have been exhausted.

IF I WAS YOUR VAMPIRE
20 year old me expected more slow mo gunfights and a more drawn out boss battle. Otherwise it's a stylish, decent adaptation.
casting issue. mark walberg and mila were simply not the right fit. the movie was total shit. but lacked the spirit of the game. Id rather have Clive Owen or Tom Jane as max. and Mona can also be a non famous female. obviously Sofia Marceau or monica belluci wouldve been good.

What'd you mean she was so hawt though
>tfw no mila kunis gf
Tom Jane is an excellent call for Max
I'd pick Marion Cottilard for Mona
they didn't play the game
>berg
americans with a surname ending with 'berg' are more likely to be related to nazis than israelites
hi israelite
Every single thing
The truth was a burning green crack through my brain. Bad casting, bad story
Is max payne supernatural?
Yeah
What is this? Vampire the masquerade mod?
I'll make another mp thread in Cinemaphile in a few days introducing the best mods
Because of John Wick, we will never get a real Max Payne live action
they did not give a frick about the game and just wanted to make cheap shitty generic movie for a quick buck.
