This was supposed to be Henry Selick’s big comeback, and it just came and went, not even nominated at the Oscars.

No hot naked men.
Everyone I know that watched it said there's no plot.
There's a plot, but it's done in a way that nothing anyone does matter.
So the bug plot is there's a tich couple who own a school and eant to make it a prison and ship kids to it. It's in a town that's basically a ghost town. B-side are demons who want to do their own version of the afterlife.
There's also a thing with hair gel that could bring dead people back. Which doesn't work work, it's only for a little bit.
The gurl gets a power but the power doesn't resolve the movie. It's actually Janitor keeping the the demons kids in bottles, and he reales them and the bug demon just sort of takes pity on the cast and leaves.
I thought the issue was that it was juggling three or four different plots at once, so the pacing, character development, and resolution was all a bit wonky.
The character designs are shit
Not enough screentime for the Key and Peele devils. And also it had a political message when all people wanted was spooky adventures with black characters
Spooky adventures with spooks if you will, I will see myself out.
Very ugly characters
Unremarkable/unlikable main character
Too many themes/messaged being pushed, none solidified
Bad storytelling, convoluted plot
How do you miss this bad with the concept of a punk rock black girl with demon familiars?
I don't see how Kat was unlikable. Initially she blamed herself/her visions for getting her parents killed, and any time anyone tried to get close to her she said "stay the frick away from me, people die when they get close to me."
Later on she didn't give a frick about anything except bringing back her parents.
There's nothing there really hateworthy.
The way Kat treated Raul from beginning to end diminished some of the sympathy you were meant to feel for her.
This. Could have been so good.
Yeah. I get it, she's had a rough life and doesn't want people near her but jesus Raul was nothing but nice. They should have made her warm up and be nicer to people.
Selick crammed all his hopes and dreams into one movie. It was trying to be too many things at once.
Still enjoyable though, frick the haters.
Unlikeable, ugly characters, way way too many plot elements crammed into the runtime and a lazy deus ex machina ending. Heck, you can tell how much of a mess it is by one of the characters being trans and this place not picking up on it or caring.
The movie didn't seem to care either with as much attention as they gave it.
It felt rushed, like it was originally meant to be a mini series
People that saw Monkeybone could recognize the red flags. I’m sorry the rest of you had to find out the hard way.
Somewhere in Monkeybone, there's a good film. It's one of those films you wish was better, which makes it worse.
Never realised it was Henry Selick, makes sense in retrospect. Also had an amusement park themed hell.
It looks like shit, the designs look unappealing.
I don't know why you dumbasses don't get that people don't want to watch shit on tv.
It had lots of good solid ideas. Lots of them. That was the fundamental problem. It tried to do too much for its running time. Cut three subplots and half the supporting characters and this could've been a classic.
Played CM Punk's theme, but no CM Punk.
