They animated a book.
it's a comic book pretending to be a book
Nothing, people at the time just wanted everything to be overly emotional Pixar slop instead of just having a fun good time
I unironically think captain underpants is cute in the movie but ugly af in the book
>What went wrong?
In what way?
there was no follow up, and the show that came after had nothing to do with the movie's universe.
show?
no sequel
The only things wrong with this move is the VA choice for George and Harold and that it came out a decade or so too late, meaning a lot of its potty/gross-out humor feels a bit out of date.
Speaking as someone who grew up alongside the books, it's actually a pretty good adaptation of the source material with some nice animation. I'm happy it exists.
Nothing
People were more cynically curious about watching the Emoji movie instead of this.
This was a great fun movie. It's obviously in the style of the books and was an extremely fun film. Not high art, but it was never trying to be that. Would love a sequel or something.
The quirks of the books don’t translate well to the screen. I don’t like them turning a cartoonish style into cg. Overall a huge lack of soul.
didn't bring back the cutie lunch lady as a mainstay
It had a low budget, it made a lot of money back, it was visually fun and pretty faithful to the books, and the TV show did pretty well with kid audiences. Not Netflix's biggest hit, but a modest one.
So nothing went wrong, I guess. Maybe a lack of a sequel is its biggest "flaw".
Calling your movie "The First Movie" is just asking for trouble. Only reason Pokemon got away with it is because the second movie was already in production by the time the first one got dubbed.

Worked for the book.
DreamWorks wanted to make another book based movie
like Shrek and How to train your dragon.
Nothing. Film still holds up.
Absolutely nothing
Benjamin is in many ways like a Cinemaphile user, actually.
he's a boring adult with a double personality, watching cartoons
>was well liked
>made a good amount of money
>got a show made
It did its job. Nothing more nothing less
There's nothing inherently wrong with the film and it made a decent amount of money for its budget. Maybe it just came out too late.
nothing. movies good.
It was competing against Wonder Woman at the box office at the time.
