What went wrong exactly with Hannibal?
Why was the original cast from SOTL brought back for it?

>villain literally drinks the tears of children
>Lecter is now an anti-hero
>Lecter falls in love with Clarice and sacrifices a hand for her
it was completely stupid and ridiculous but pretty entertaining ngl
isn't that how it goes in the book
Also doesn't the TV show cover the events of all these movies?
Not quite, the movie changed the ending. For the better, barely.
Books can also be moronic Anon
It's difficult to up the ante with sadistic porn
Silence>red dragon>Hannibal
Rising is non canon
No I won't rate the older movie that people like to pretend is good
Manhunter mogs em all.
This. Pure noir-kino
>The shitty obscure one is LE BEST
reddit moment
>obscure
lol how young are you to consider Manhunter even remotely obscure?
Go back
>g-go back
I accept your concession, zoomer homosexual.
You gonna downvote me now? Go back already
Go watch Manhunter immediately. I’ll await your apology.
It looks like it was made for TV and stars nobodies who can't act for shit. You're not special for liking bad movies, you're just cringey. Now go back
Red Dragon is complete 00s remake garbage. The worst Michael Mann film is miles better than Brett Ratner’s best day.
Yes, the second adaptation also sucks. What's your point?
I’m not saying Manhunter is flawless, but there’s a whole lot to like about it. It stands on its own as a solid movie and not just an early adaptation of a Richard Harris novel curiosity.
Oops, Thomas Harris*
Frigging epic dudes I'll upvote your posts on r/Cinemaphile later
>defending Brett Ratner
Worst thing I’ve seen posted here recently.
>Being a redditor
Worst poster I've seen here recently.
When was the last time you watched Red Dragon or are you just trolling?
>ERMMM WHAT THE FRICK? WHY WONT YOU OBEY THE HIVEMIND? AREN'T YOU SCARED OF BEING DOWNVOTED? THIS MUST BE A TROLL
Go back to your echo chamber
Dodging the question.
Go back
When was the last time you watched Red Dragon?
When was the last time you dilated?
>u shuld heckin go back bro
Someone said this to you last week when you first got here and you’ve been parroting it since. You should have a nice day
>It looks like it was made for TV
Yeah, a 90 inch 8K TV.
HOOOOOLY SHITBALLS IS THAT A CHAIR
This is now a Manhunter thread.
have a nice day.
uh-oh looks like the hipster homosexual needs to change his tampon
are you an actual boomer? I've not seen it and it had no relevance compared to silence or hannibal and I'm over 30. I did watch the lecter scenes on youtube after seeing the contrarian hype and I was very unimpressed with cox's sociopath normal guy take
I first saw it in high school when it got released on DVD. You could argue that it WAS obscure, but its reputation grew a lot throughout the 00s and it got reevaluated by critics.
>but its reputation grew a lot throughout the 00s
odd, no one told me. are you sure you arent a zoomie quoting wikipedia?
Perhaps you’re being autistic and can’t comprehend that there’s a whole world outside your own personal experiences? Many such cases here.
>but its reputation grew a lot throughout the 00s and it got reevaluated by critics.
>odd, no one told me. are you sure you arent a zoomie quoting wikipedia?
Not the guy you're trolling, but literally half of the film critics who reviewed Red Dragon wrote articles that were like "DID YOU KNOW THIS IS ACTUALLY A REMAKE????"
if you saw red dragon in 2002, there's no way you could have escaped seeing somebody say this
>>I haven't seen it but I'm gonna give my shit opinions on it.
what is it like being illiterate in the modern age anon?
every day is an adventure 😀
>I've not seen it
???
moronic too eh?
Was this
your post? Because you said right at the start you haven’t seen the movie and judge it only from a few clips you watched on YouTube.
how esl are you, quote where I rated the movie
You said you weren’t impressed by Cox’s performance as Lecter but you watched them separated from the context of the full movie.
>quote where I rated the movie
What do you mean by rated, anon?
where you called it shitty
Go watch it, I used to think it couldn't be better than lambs or red dragon but it just was
Music and photography is top tier
>obscure
Motherfricker it literally invented CSI and its derivatives
bait much?
Manhunter was so detached that none of it's thrills ever landed for me.
Tom Noonan looks like a goober.
The film has a murky aesthetic preventing any of the images from really popping,
The editing in parts is so choppy that the set pieces completely fall apart.
Compare the climax of Manhunter to Ms.45
>Ms. 45
?t=4115
>Manhunter
The blu-ray release is the best it’s ever looked if you’re interested in revisiting.
Imagine preferring Brett Ratner garbage to Mann-kino. Christ almighty, anon.
Manhunter >>>>>>>>>>>> Silence>red dragon>Hannibal
based. i love you guys.
>What went wrong exactly with Hannibal?
A sequel movie based on a novel written only because people wanted the sequel movie. The plot isn't good and the adaptation is worse.
>Why was the original cast from SOTL brought back for it?
Wasn't it just Hopkins and Barney? Don't remember why Foster didn't come back. Probably some dyke hysteria.
Demme and Foster didn’t like Clarice’s arc in the book. Demme also called it “lurid” and screenwriter Ted Tally called it “excessive”. All of them were on board with doing a sequel until Harris actually published the book.
Clarice would not have forgotten that HL sat on his ass while knowing full well who Buffalo Bill was when the second womans body turned up. She wouldn't overlook that simply because Hannibal is clever and tasteful.
The ending where he is cooking the other FBI agents brain and feeding it to him was pretty kino
Manhunter is not better than Silence. It might be better than everything after Silence, however.
STRONG AS I AM
>white woman
you just know
KINO
When Lecter is introduced in previous films we're told he ripped out a nurses tongue and blinded her in one eye.
Lecter in Hannibal is a moralgay by comparison.
So so movie but I always liked the brain eating scene for how over the top it is
I liked it tbh
not as good as The Silence of the Lambs but was a comfy flick
do you think Hannibal would kill you if you went to an appointment with him and brought a bacon double stack biggie bag from Wendy's with you and ate it during the session? Smelling his office of french fries and catsup.
I'd kill you for that nevermind hannibal
Thomas Harris really shit the bed as he went on. In Red Dragon we're told that Lecter was cruel to animals as a child and by Hannibal he's killing redneck hunters for 'rudeness'.
>we're told that Lecter was cruel to animals as a child
Did the text say where that information came from? Because that could have just been some bullshit he told Chilton to frick with him.
I don't think he'd say anything like that as it would diminish him. Here's the passage; Will Graham is talking to a local police chief about him -
‘What made him do it, how was he crazy?’
Graham looked out the car window at the people on the sidewalk. His voice sounded detached, as though he were dictating a letter.
‘He did it because he liked it. Still does. Dr. Lecter is not crazy, in any common way we think of being crazy. He ‘He did it because he liked it. Still does. Dr. Lecter is not crazy, in any common way we think of being crazy. He did some hideous things because he enjoyed them. But he can function perfectly when he wants to.’
‘What did the psychologists call it – what was wrong with him?’
‘They say he’s a sociopath because they don’t know what else to call him. He has some of the characteristics of what they call a sociopath. He has no remorse or guilt at all. And he had the first and worst sign – sadism to animals as a child.’
Springfield grunted.
‘But he doesn’t have any of the other marks,’ Graham said. ‘He wasn’t a drifter, he had no history of trouble with the law. He wasn’t shallow and exploitive in small things, like most sociopaths are. He’s not insensitive. They don’t know what to call him. His electroencephalograms show some odd patterns, but they haven’t been able to tell much from them.’
>He did it because he liked it. Still does. Dr. Lecter is not crazy, in any common way we think of being crazy. He ‘He did it because he liked it. Still does. holy shit
>‘He did it because he liked it. Still does.
Agreed. He was so much better as a supporting character in Red Dragon. Turning him into an anti-hero was a huge mistake.
thomas harris hated the movie silence of the lambs so he purposefully wrote hannibal to be a deranged unfilmable pile of shit
>However, in a 1991 New York Magazine feature by Phoebe Hoban, Harris actually explained that he DID see the film. Harris noted, with enthusiasm (according to Hoban), “It’s a great movie. I’ve been surrounded by it, so I wanted to see it. I admire Jonathan Demme, and we were very fortunate to have him and screenwriter Ted Tally, and we were very lucky with the cast.”
Iirc the book was written on a deadline because they wanted a sequel out, meanwhile there was no rush for the previous two books
Hannibal is schlock but Hannibal Rising is the real stinker
Hannibal Rising is pretty bad but Hannibal: The College Years is an absolute abomination
hannibal is pure kino, all the zoomer gays here should go catch haunted mansion instead. more appropriate
The beginning stuff in Rome is pretty good, but by the time it gets to man-eating pigs and eating Ray Liotta’s brains it becomes way too goofy.
Hannibal chopping his own hand off and running away into the night is hilarious
CORDELL?
>detective story in Rome
>eating brains
>man-eating pigs
>mutilated gimp in a wheelchair
Thanks for reminding me why I enjoyed this movie.
forgot to mention
>Lecter is at the top of the FBI Most Wanted list
>makes absolutely zero attempt to change his appearance
To be fair, she did change his face in the book. But obviously, it doesn't make sense to bring back Anthony Hopkins if you're going to change how he looks.
he did change
>she
Did he troon out as well?
typo
also, Gary Oldman as Mason Verger, and Ridley Scott? compare Hannibal to the hot shit that comes out today.
>Funny isn't it.
>You can look at my face, but you shied when I said the name Sneed
> no lesbian bodybuilder sister of Mason Verger
Why did you deprive us of this Sir Ridley?
TV show are kino prequel
>prequel
more like slash fiction mashup
Hannibal was prime kino.
