The only thing that happens is as an adult he can free his dad. He finds a way to give himself a happy ending while maintaining his suffering. Which is fine, it makes perfect sense.

Are you moronic? The Flash's plot, like it or not, is very clear cut. Barry goes back in time to save his mom, fricks the entire timeline up, realizes he's stuck in a no-win scenario and finally relents. Yes he moves the cans but that doesn't change anything about the past. His dad still goes to jail, his mom still dies, he still suffers and spends all his time trying to free his dad. The only thing that happens is as an adult he can free his dad. He finds a way to give himself a happy ending while maintaining his suffering. Which is fine, it makes perfect sense.
The Flash sucked because it spent fully half its runtime developing a setting and characters that ceased to matter during the climax.
