I think some of it is studio control. They were probably told to have other writers and characters added so they don't appear offensive so it wouldn't be another Ghandi situation.

Whenever cartoons bring up "current year" issues I can't help but fricking gag, even clone high during the MTV era was a lot more subtle when mentioning early 2000s issues
I also love how they did a whole episode about cancel culture and decide to use the literal clone of fricking ABRAHAM LINCOLN as the one character to get cancelled.

Felt like I was watching a 2016 era south park episode, they've really shot themselves in the foot and dated this reboot more than the original somehow by not keeping it as period piece, moving it away from teen dramas and cheesy sitcoms.
I mean it, really hotel transylvania 2 was making these kind of jokes in 2015.
I feel like even if they did do parodies to teen dramas again, they will just use gore and sex jokes to mock it in the most cynical way possible.
Cringe but they totally would, not that the original didn't have its fair share of it. The gore would be improved if there wasn't an excessive amount of blood gushing everytime it happened and should be reserved for certain jokes.
For example in the school play episode when Scudsworth stabs himself should have played out like

>Show cuts to whatever the clones are doing
Instead of an entire pressurized stream covering the students in his vicinity. The show would really benefit from better timing and not drawing them out as long.

I like it. I prefer the original but I still find this one enjoyable so far.
