The sequel? First film was solid. But you could probably blame Black Adam and Dwayne Johnson
nothing. shizzam was the greatest kino of all time
for me, no Mister Mind
same! I was psyched to see Mister Mind on screen after they showed him in the first movie. I lost all interest once I heard they changed direction.
Adult acts more childish than the child. Levi acted like a 10 year old while Billy's actor was 15 and acted as such.
That seems more like misguided directing then.
Having the adult overcompensate in their childishness to convey that it's just a kid in an adult's body.
I think the point was to convey that while in champion form Billy regained his childlike wonder and optimism
Having watched Justice League: War earlier today that portrayed Shazam as someone with a hotheaded streak who lets the idea of being superpowered get the better of him.
More like what you'd expect from a kid who stumbles into being a superhero without any of the moral growth that it's supposed to represent.
Nu52 Shazam was pretty bad. Imo atleast. He had the same disconnect between the two age portrayals.
I think it's a bad choice regardless of how it was portrayed to the audience. It essentially made him relearn all the lessons from the first movie and stunted his growth.
Shazam comes across as a weirdo manchild rather than any childlike wonder. It doesn't help he doesn't retain any of it when he goes back to Billy so they feel more separate than they should
Safran, Harmada, and Emmerich took control of Shazam 2 and ruined it.
Billy was too damn old. What's even the point of transforming into an adult if he's almost already an adult anyway? He should be like 10.
Making it a comedy is also the wrong approach. I always envisioned a Shazam movie having the tone of a slightly dark adventure for kids, like Goonies or Monster Squad. That's the feeling I got reading Ordway's Power of Shazam graphic novel when I was a kid myself, it almost already seemed like a movie to me.
first movie was great, people who shat on it very likely didn't bother watching it cause it came out during a time where DC movies were at an all time low in the general public's opinion cause of the zack sneeder movies. The sequel sucked, warnerbros wanted it to fail so they could do a full reset of the DCEU and it never received proper shilling.
DCEU was a distraction psyop
They cast three oc "whos?" As the main plot and drama of the second movie.
You have a plethora of villains from Shazam or the greater dc mystic roster to choose from. Everything from Neron, Eclipso, lady blaze to mister mind and the
Sivana family.
But frick it, lets you don't want to go through the trouble of using any dc specific villain, and want to go with a generic Olympian enemy. Why not go with the famous titans like chronos, atlas or hyperion?
The choice of villains and plot of the movie was simply outright bizarre.
They wanted Black Adam. Dwayne's Johnson said no. This was them scrambling to recover.
It was strongly implied they used original villains because they were being micromanaged with canon ones by DC and WB. The director made a comment once that original villains gave them freedom. Personally I am 10000% convinced that the villains were originally Granny Goodness and the Furies but somewhere along the lines changed into the three sisters during rewrites after it was approved.
he was always right. about everything.
He wasn't a black man
No nudist Mary.
>tease based mr mind as the sequel villain
>use literal whos OCs
also johns nu 52 shazam was bad and ruined Sivana
No one likes adopted kids
Black adam should be main bad guy
they could've at least made it take place at the same time period as when he was at the height of his popularity (which was the 1940's) but still keep the adopted siblings
The first one was great. I honestly thought the sequel was fun despite its flaws, but it had a ton of flaws. I really didn't like how little it focused on Billy and his relationship with the other family members. It made some of the more emotional Mary scenes fall flat since we barely see them interact. These type of scenes seemed to have been filmed too so the film probably could have had a better cut.
Even if they are disjointed, I enjoyed both Shazam movies and Black Adam. I'd say what "went wrong" was simply it's Shazam. Without a massive cultural meme to propel it to success the normies aren't going to come running.
I'm hoping Gunn keeps Levi and gang around with that tease at the end of Fury of the Gods.
I liked the first film
The second didnt have Mr Mind, Savana and tawky tawny in it
Guess too close to the Geoff John’s version that no one really liked
I enjoyed the Freddy /Wizard parts in the second film so it wasn’t totally awful
>Movie directly points out that the romance is basically pedophilia but does it anyway because of double standards towards older women and boys
Wizard Shazam should have had a Hawaiian shirt at the end of the movie
Shazam should have been the black Adam movie
Captain Marvel could start off the film rescuing Tawky from some scientific experiment gone wrong island too (don’t like the magic explanation for the character)
Black Adam shows up and The Shazam family has to stop him .
Sivana and Mr.Mind are in the background doing something
Part 3 would be Shazam family having to team up with black Adam to stop Mr Mind and monster society of evil
