I liked 1 and 2, didn't like 3 and never watched 4 and 5. Actually, that's almost the same exact history I have with the shrek franchise.

I wonder why they never made an ice age cartoon. Plenty of movies you didn't think would get cartoons like madagascar or monsters vs aliens got one, but ice age would have worked better (and cheaper) with a cartoon than so many sequels.

ice age 1 felt alot more genuine story of a group of unlikely friends on a quest with learning lessons, sadness and heart with some pretty decent humor that isn't too obnoxious
ice age 2 was still good, not great but good diago didn't really get to shine because his character arc is effectively solved in the first film but otherwise still worth watching if you liked the first.
ice age 3 and beyond is where things start getting kinda shit, way too much kiddy humor injected, doesn't take itself as seriously and too seriously at the same time, lacks emotion, I think it was due to the possum brothers mostly just being the worst kid bait characters.

      your not missing much.

    >What went wrong
It became a franchise. The first had a story to tell, and it did it well, and none of the following movies could recapture that.

Well, I'll give the second one some credit for giving Manny a mate (revealing there were tons of other mammoths was stupid though)

Can you say go wrong if it was successful? Are there even any big Ice Age fans? At least ones who would browse here? I can see it having an autistic fanbase

the most I've seen from ice age is "oh yeah those movies are fun" never saw any merch outside of the occasional mcdonalds toys that somehow always end up in charity shops though even that is rare nowadays.

it's weird, like everyone likes the movies, they aren't terrible (save for ones past 2 but normies say they like it but somehow aren't bad enough to be memed about) did pretty well in the box office, but nobody talks about them at all unless you went out of your way to bring it up and it's just "oh yeah those movies"

I liked 3 more than 2. Dinosaur setting was great.

They didn't fricking stop with Dinosaur kino and the cast was cluttered with shite meaningless additions.
Sid's grandma, the girl tiger obligatory love interest for Diego who does literally nothing the following film, and the beta hog orbiter who is unceremoniously memory holed for some goofy homie fiance for Peaches that comes out of nowhere
And THEN, they scrapped that entirely and completely threw in the towel by just straight up giving a spinoff to the absolute lowest tier comic relief annoyance side characters
I think. I haven't actually seen the Adventures of Buckshit or whatever

I agree, all the other additions to the cast with the exception of Buck didn't add anything substantial to the movies.
If they ever reboot this franchise they need to cut every single addition except for Buck

    >Ice Age, Robots, Horton Hears a Who!, Rio, Epic, The Peanuts Movie, Ferdinand, Spies in Disguise
Blue Sky would've had more original films if they didn't make so many Ice Age sequels. They should've stopped after 3.

They'd have closed down a lot earlier without them though, sad as it is to say

Indeed. Ice Age sequels did way more money than films like Robots and Horton.

It did not even have a good start. The first movie was a bland, boring mess that every test audience hated. And it was reedited, whole scenes were shuffled around and a nothing side plot became the main A plot of the film. And then it was a nice watchable movie.

...then they decided to Land Before Time the thing and make like 6 more terribly thought out sequels.

Not enough focus on the hottest character.

Say what you will about Ice Age, but it was a big improvement over the previous animation film by 20th Century Fox (Titan AE). At least it has some heart.

Someone needs to remind me what the frick 4's plot was
Yes I know there was the stuff about the tectonic shifts and iceberg pirates shanghaiing the group

But WHY? Why did the monkey pirate want to force them into joining his crew?

I really liked the 4th one just for the visuals alone.

It took advantage of the issue of 3D animation; everyone was replaceable. The front end work was done and I don't even know if the voice actors were hired again or just imitated.
    It was decimated by execs.
