I do, just not this legacy character bullshit or Wonder Woman in general.
The problem is nepobaby son of WB Film executive mother Tom King has so much power with DC editorial that his rewritten retcon characters become the new normal.
>Love her and her potential. Hope she doesn’t languish in limbo forever. I also shipped her and Jon Kent so I’m full of disappointments
The homosexual editors at DC dropped the ball hard there. >Jones also too slow for a monthly and got caught tracing.
It's true she got caught tracing but did that really kill her DC career? Greg Land traces and still is fine. I guess the combo of tracing+being extremely slow and not meeting her deadlines killed her. Land is famous for always hitting deadlines. >then she was from Iowa or some shit
This was fricking stupid. She should have been a native Amazonian raised in the Amazon, not an American on vacation in Brazil. Yara has a great design but everything else about her is shit-tier.
That's what I don't get, if you trace it's supposed to make you faster but Joelle was still slow and constantly missing deadlines. She's so useless. Did she quit comics or is she making indies now?
you can trace and still work if you hit your deadlines, Greg land hits deadlines, but Joelle Jones does not.

she traced other artists, not photos. nowadays that's a no-no. had that been a rule back in the day, kirby and buscema would be shamed online whereas the likes of rich buckler would have never had a job
She just did what every single professional mangaka does. Did DC editors stop working with her because she can't meet deadlines or because she swipes? They were pushing her as their next big thing for awhile before unceremoniously dumping her.
It’s because they gave her leeway to take her time to work on her book, and she just never delivered. And then the tracing thing came out. I don’t think she’s black;isted, but they aren’t rushing to give her jobs because that’s a one-two punch on an artist who hasn’t really built a fan base. Seemingly, they’ve already ditched her catwoman costume already
>I hoped she was the real deal because she's a cutie.
She's like one of those female DJs at festivals and clubs who doesn't make her own mixes or do anything, she just stands behind the turntables and looks hot while pretending to twist knobs.
The problem is nepobaby son of WB Film executive mother Tom King has so much power with DC editorial that his rewritten retcon characters become the new normal.
Tom King always contradicts every character's previous characterisation that he writes, look at Strange Adventures for another example.

He literally lives rent free in your heads. King has written literally 3 of the 60 issues that she's appeared in over the past four years. He's never written her as a main character. He's never written her as a viewpoint character.
Shut the frick up you CIA glowBlack person. Tom King is the only writer currently using Yara in his crappy wonder woman book, he is to blame for the lame retcon of her character.
She was sassy and whimsical in her original Joelle Jones run, and was chasing after some big black guy as her version of Steve Trevor. Now she's Michelle Rodriguez because Tom King thinks all latinas behave like Michelle Rodriguez.
Creating a new Wonder Girl and having her be 21 and already older than the current Wonder Girl probably wasn't a great idea. I get that it was done for the TV show pitch though.
>I get that it was done for the TV show pitch though.
Imagine if the TV show worked and we got live action Yara in her canon outfit and the actress had giant bunda
Stuck in a shitty event and didn't get a chance to have a proper run.
It's unfortunate because I normally don't give a damn about the Wonder Woman series, but Yara caught my attention. Then they wasted her.
If you want us to like a brazilian character you gotta make sure to specifically promote said character extensively in Brazil (Zé Carioca, his debut animation had him voiced by one of our greatest musicians), or make them interesting enough so we will actively look for works they appear in even though it isn’t officially available down here yet (Eddy Gordo from Tekken, although nowadays Tekken has been officially released in Brazil for over 14 years now).
We aren’t easily pleased with representation appeal, many Latinos aren’t actually, we love Saint Seiya and Dragonball for frick’s sake, I wasn’t wondering where was the Brazilians in Goku or Seiya’s world (although we have Aldebaran in the latter’s case, a massive jobber).
She was an American going on a find herself journey to Brazil. It was dumb. She should have simply been an Amazonian raised in the Amazon, no American backstory required.
End of the day its unimportant what the stating point is long as she goes to do super hero shit. We deal with Donna's hair brain skitzo start and can tight walk Clark's fly over America stories with his Krypton origins.
I actually really like Donna's origin where she's an orphan saved by wonder woman and raised by the Amazons. It's the kind of stuff that sounds sort of fairy tale like and what a girl what find fun. Even before crisis it became convoluted with her being sold into a trafficking ring- which is too fricking dark.
It's a good origin, but it doesn't make sense how she has superpowers.

Pre-crisis Amazons were basically regular humans who trained really hard and could unlock abilities humans outside of Paradise Island couldn't. Anything else was enchanted items(bodice, bracelets, lasso)

DC seems to have gone back to that origin in that Tales of the Titans mini, and Phil Jimenez keeps teasing something on twitter and instagram that included a pic of her first family so I think we're getting a oneshot or Titans annual about Donna's origin again.
No. Brazilian fans were mad that she ended up being from Idaho, spoke spanish instead of portuguese, and was basically a white girl.
>Yara Flor is written either as a White Girl from the United States (as in Future State: Wonder Woman) or as a Spanish speaking Latina girl (as in Future State: Superman/Wonder Woman), but never as a Brazilian girl who grew up speaking Portuguese. >Why doesn’t she sound like a Brazilian girl? Because she’s from Idaho, the same state as Jones herself. Before that, the only real thing keeping the character from achieving greatness, in my opinion, was her voice. A skilled writer who knew how to write an Indigenous girl could turn her into one of the best and most culturally important characters DC has ever had. In the aforementioned piece run by Polygon, Joelle talks about how she felt an inaccessibility in relating to Diana as a character despite loving her, due to the fact that she’s a beautiful goddess. The irony of that is through creating Yara, Jones unintentionally translated that exact same feeling by creating a character who’s almost Brazilian and who Brazilian and Indigenous girls will ONLY almost be able to identify with. >Her ethnicity is being treated as a mystery besides being played for aesthetics. Her mother is a Themysciran Amazon and her father is a “River God”, and she’s going to Brazil to rediscover her origins after growing up in Themyscira and Idaho. It’s infuriating how the character isn’t allowed to be herself, and how they’ll go as far as possible to make her relatable to the White audience instead of committing to what makes her unique.
and tbh I agree with them because if the writer attached couldn't try to research brazilian shit DC should've at least attached a co writer who was brazilian because Yara was so... incomplete. They wanted the brownie points of having an indigenous latina with barely-there-brazilian-folklore but didn't want her to actually be a unique character.

Literally the most successful push a big two character has had since Ms. Marvel
HOWEVERBEIT >She was tied a dead on arrival alternate timeline that was mocked and promptly cancelled before it even had begun (deserved, frick 5G) >Tom “brown holocaust” King wanted to make a new WW heir nearly immediately after she was introduced >pushed out of the way to make room for a boring daughter of Diana that also is doomed since nobody cares about future timelines
This b***h was safe horny and racist colonizer horny. Everyone loved this woman and her gorgeous character design and you can blame Tom “racial purity” King for her downfall

Kamala is already being pushed to the side after her failed endeavors in big project like the Avengers Game and her two MCU appearances so far.

Don't you even dare.
You're right. Everyone loved her design, but DC Editorial dropped the ball with her and now Tom King has completely destroyed all appeal she had. It doesn't help that artists now refuse to draw her big bunda as it was her main point of appeal in the first place.
Robin: "The son of circus acrobats who were killed by a criminal, Dick Grayson was adopted by Batman and became Robin."
Superboy: "A young clone of Superman made with his DNA (and Lex Luthor's)."
Kid Flash: "The Nephew of the Flash, who was visiting his Uncle and got splashed with the same chemicals that gave Flash his powers!"
Wonder Girl (Cassie): "Daughter of an Archaeologist that WW befriended, Cassie became a hero by swiping powerful mystic artifacts... and later learned Zeus is her dad!"
Yara Flor: "Okay so this Amazon left the Amazons to go adventure, and she found a tribe in the Amazon where she lived and had Yara, but then Yara's mom got killed by agents of the Greek Gods and Yara was spirited away to Ohio where she lived until she became curious about her origin."
There aren't enough people buying comics that give a shit about Wonder Woman so there wasn't a large enough fanbase to talk about Flor. Also Diana on her own isn't despised like Bruce/Clark because she's not a white male.
Yara and Punchline both would need to appear in a popular videogame or new DC movie if their characters want any chance of survival or gaining a worthwhile fanbase. If they make a Capcom vs DC game or something and it features Yara as a playable character, she'd probably become the #1 waifu in DC.
Brown people don't read comics.
I do, just not this legacy character bullshit or Wonder Woman in general.
Ugly monkey face.
They do. They don't buy them. They will read them on free comic sites then b***h endlessly about them.
Stop calling out Cinemaphile
Being related to Wonder Woman, she would have been better as a solo heroine.
This. Wonder Woman's continuity is a mess. Adding new characters to that is just sending them to die.

Tpbp
They never gave Yara Flor the big Brazilian dick that we all knew Yara Flor should have.
inferior, Yara needs to be cucked STAT
Being tied to all the other horrible 5G characters ruined her from the start.
Tom King turned her in to a fiesty latina Michelle Rodriquez stereotype, which completely contradicts her personality from her original comics run.

Why would they dislike her? She was a character that just happened to be Brazilian and actually used some of the lore. IE diversity done right.
Token paint jobs are why people b***h non stop about Miles, Super gay, etc. Plus don't think DC went out of their way to target that audience.

Americans think all latinos are mexican, no way they know brazilians speak portuguese instead of spanish.
Surely someone in DC editorial would have known this and informed Joelle, surely! They can't all be that stupid, surely!

Almost perfect but you forgot to talk about how everything wrong with the character is all Tom King's fault.
Does it really matter if she speaks Portuguese or Spanish? This is the universe where Asians and aliens speak fluent English.
If she spoke both yeah whatever but just spanish? No. Brazilians speak portuguese.
Brazilians don't read American comics
If Yara didn't suck maybe she'd actually have brazilian fans
if she didn't suck, she still wouldn't sell books, Brazilians would just pirate them lmao.
And instead nobody even pirated her because she was shit
so either way it didn't matter
If Yara starred in her own shonen manga with plenty of fanservice, and spoke Portuguese, maybe Brazilians would read it
again, no profit.
