Taika has nothing that makes his movies rewatchable

Lots of comedies are built on non-serious setups. Ragnarok is built on a story of someone literally genociding Asgard and keeps returning focus to the fact that it's happening in background. The difference between that and Jojo Rabbit is that Jojo Rabbit is about a child's ignorance juxtaposed against tragedy that uses dramatic irony to re-contextualize the humor; it's a bittersweet film. Ragnarok has one-liners and pratfalls, cuts to people getting rounded up to be executed, then cuts back to more one-liners and pratfalls.
Compare Ragnarok to GotG: there are plenty of silly moments in otherwise serious scenes to be sure (DANCE OFF BRO), but the key difference is that these moments are either so quick you don't even think about them before you're brought right back to seriousness, or they genuinely provide something to the scene (DANCE OFF BRO actually serving to effectively distract Ronan by being so fricking out there everyone in-universe and out is confused as hell). In addition, Guardians knows when to shut up with the quips and actually take what its doing relatively seriously, which Taika does not seem to understand.

Who the hell wants to watch a dozen different shows to get context on what's going on in a movie? Such a boneheaded idea. They seemed to know what they were doing before Endgame. Why drop the ball now going forward?
Bro the entire ending doesn't make sense, the movie wasn't just written by committee, it was written by making bulletpoints in a ppt presentation about tie in demands into a plot.
It wasn't about Doctor Strange, didn't make sense, was a follow up to Wandavision which also wasn't good and for some reason Vision is never fricking mentioned, the cameos were cringe, and America was useless (no offense to the poor girl)

If you think people are going to care about the capeshit in 20 years you're moronic and don't understand how human culture works. We're very obviously at the beginning of the decline.
the problem isn't the source material, the problem is lack of innovation in the product. Most Marvel movies don't want to break away from the mold of Iron Man 1.
If you think audiences aren't feeling superhero fatigue at this point, you're insane. You know how every superhero film not by Marvel was getting shit reviews a couple years ago? Well now even the Marvel movies aren't doing too well critically. People just go and see them because it's a consumerist religion at this point.
I was just thinking the other day about how much good capeshit vidya we've gotten compared to what we used to have... and still no Superman game. We have an open world game set in Metropolis coming up soon and even that's not a Superman game for frick's sake. At least he looks like he's fun to play in Multiversus.
>2019: superhero bubble is bursting guys >Nothing but flops and "Disapointments" afterwards
The reason they keep making them is that they don't have a Plan B (And really becouse they still make good enough money, just not like it used to)
Ultron was serious shit and the avengers train was saved by the Russo brothers taking over. But by endgame the writing was on the wall. Take away the fan service and unlike Infinity war it was straight up not a good movie.
Now the best movie in phase 4 is a Spider-Man movie that borrows all of its best characters from other better Spider-Man movies.
The issue with Marvel films leaning more and more towards comedy is that there are a dozen actually funny comedy films in theaters at any given time. MCU quips are always going to be inferior to a dedicated product.
And in the interest of balance, here's a positive reaction. >take the chaotic energy and maximum silliness of ARMY OF DARKNESS and FLASH GORDON and mix it with the the pathos of THE FOUNTAIN and THE SEVENTH SEAL, throw in some GUNS N ROSES and a few Frank Frazetta paintings and you’ve got a bit of THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER.

I don't give a shit about the holocaust motherfricker.I hated it for the same reason i hated turning Les Miserables into a musical,it's a far cry from the author's original intention and spirit of the book as he wrote it.
If his intention was to not stick to the book as closely as possible then Titika Whitetitty and any other of his kind should've stuck to making their le quirky OC donut steele reddit-tier crap homosexual vampire shit instead of butchering the works of others.
Doing a quirky Moonrise Kingdom inspired take on the Holocaust pissed off some people.
Jojo Rabbit is better than Ragnarok because it balances the comedy our with emotional scenes. I wish Ragnarok and Thor's Endgame arc were more like that.
Jojo Rabbit is morally depraved. It makes it seem like ordinary Germans were innocent dupes, as if they hadn't been watching their neighbors get rounded up and shipped off to death camps for years.

Ok, so set it in some fictional country then. Using the actual holocaust as a backdrop for a goofy kid adventure is gross. It's so dumb to act like you're doing satire to make a "Nazis are silly" film in 2019, it trivializes the deaths of millions of people.
Apparently it has nothing to do with that. Based on a leak I read I think it might be that Thor goes into the final battle with Gorr backed up by child soldiers
I can see some corporate suits thinking >we have THIS popular thing >and we have THIS popular thing >if we mash it up together, we would have THIS^2 popular thing!
SW fans really have it rough, don't they?
Not to sound like a mouseketeer, but even if the reviews are bad I'm pretty sure this movie will make gorillions of dollars anyways.
Marvel movies are bomb-proof.
Every fricking movie these days seems to be using Watiti. I doubt he gave enough of a shit about Thor to want to pursue again along with other projects.
Why would they let him have the movie after a line like that? Not even from a logical "he's going to screw this up" perspective. After Star Wars Disney should be fricking paranoid about people ruining their IPs.
>Why would they let him have the movie after a line like that?
Why would that affect their opinion at all? Thor was the driest member of the MCU and they're desperate for money.
>Why would they let him have the movie after a line like that?
because regardless of what you think of him, ragnarok was the most commercially successful thor movie, he could call fans drooling morons and marvel would keep him on
If theres one thing that I learned and understood very clearly from following Homestuck is that the concept of "trolling creators" is fricking moronic and its just an excuse for shitty behavior.
These kind of people are more concerned with getting a strong reactiong than making something good, you absolutely cannot trust them with anything.
Taika "chose" and everyone today knows how...Tessa Thompson to play Valkyrie just to displease the fans and was going to do even worse in Love and Thunder by choosing an actress almost 60 years old to play Brunnhilde >'Thor: Love and Thunder' Cuts Lena Headey, Peter Dinklage, Jeff Goldblum
I don't care about reviews for marvel movies anymore, especially since any reviewer worth their salt will probably just say "all marvel movies suck, the end"
Are there any other reviews? If there's several bad reviews it would be one thing, but if it's one bad review and a bunch of good reviews or reviews that say it's not great but still fun, then it's too early to say anything went wrong.
The trailer was ugly and the premise of this movie is dumb. Thor hasn't even developed as a character to have his "i need to find myself" movie. There's nothing to find.
>Make a movie adaption of Aaron's Thor >Jane Foster, the worst thing about Thor 1 & 2 returns >Make Jane Foster a She-Tho >Woman Taiki is sleeping with has a prominent role in the movie >Taiki without his handlers
Not surprising if Thor 4 fails. All the signs were there.
>Disaster
Does that mean that it underperformed, recieved bad feedback or that it flopped?
Becouse they keep adding characters in hopes that something sticks to make a new avengers movie (I think) but nothing catched on and nobody is good enough to be the new linchpin, the movies will end up with a clusterfrick of literal whos and nobody wants to see, wouldn't be surpriced if they start reviving characters
In any case, the Hollywood machine its a bit weird right now, im kind of courious to know what is the plan after this
Stormbreaker was a mistake, it looks dumb as shit. So lame that Thor loses his hammer and an eye in Ragnarok then they immediately give him a bigger hammer and a new eye in Infinity War.
This and the worst part is how little effort it took to make the best Thor movie. He went on a quest to hit the bad man with an axe, he got his axe and then he narrowly missed the bad man. Simple as.
>What went wrong?
Gay agenda, sexy women (curvy, wearing leotards, cleavage) are not all allowed in the MCU little girls may want to be women and not trannies if they show attractive women according to their woke philosophy
People liked Wandavision until they shit the bed with the ending, and Shang-Chi is at the very least a competently made film, while the difference between the director's personal style and corporate mandated tone and scenes is blatant in DS2 and Loki has character development and story issues.
>Anon saying how it's Taika's fault and not Marvelshit getting boring
See what I mean? Marvel wants Taika gone because he doesn't fit into the mold so they'll pay off reviewers and tell their twitter/Cinemaphile drones it's his fault
Batman & Robin was awesome. I personally like the original spirit of Batman, the violent justicar, but I also liked the Schumacher bilogy because it was a rich and stylish recreation of the '60s series, it HAD to be campy because it was a COMEDY.
The problem with Thor is that no matter how big is in the Marvel universe, people will perceive him a secondary character, because most of his best stories are with the Avengers or crossed with other characters, popular as him or even more. How would you make a movie about such character?
Option A)
An overacted drama in fake shakespearian english.
Option B)
A cross of Masters of the Universe and Flash Gordon, making it the spiritual successor of both.
They chose the second one, because the alternative was worse.
Either Queen is a lesser title to King since the Queens that ruled in their own right occurred far less often than Kings, or they want to be woke and just remove gendered words, like how they're starting to refer to female actresses as "actors" even though it means the same fricking thing
Movies are a reflection of the times.
The original Ironman hit at a time where Americans wanted to feel "redeemed" about the wars they started and that they could "fix" everything and still be the good guys
The Avengers came out when people were craving more long form story teling in media. The desire for an epic to follow
Guardians of the Galaxy came out when people were sick of how "dower" everything was being presented in Marvel and showed people it could be fun. Black Panther came out when Americans didn't want to feel like bigots and so they wanted to throw money at an entirely black movie to feel less racist.
The problem with Thor 4 is that it's now answering to the tone of the times right now, just like most of Marvel has been. People don't want quirky Guardians of the Galaxy shit right now. It's too superficial and safe. People want substance right now, they want movies that make them feel a bit bad, a bit angry but a bit positive that "things will work out." Instead they're getting a comedy focused film that ends with one of the main characters dying from cancer and the audience being told "It's funny"
This is the climate for X-Men to fricking be a slamdunk as long as they do anything but Apocalypse or Dark Phoenix but these directors literally can't help themselves.
>This is the climate for X-Men to fricking be a slamdunk
It's actually the climate for X-Men to get their shit wrecked culturally by everyone hyperfocusing on breaking down and analyzing the "metaphor" and finding it lacking. That's not even getting into how traditional X-Men themes don't really work that well in the context of the MCU yet deviating from them also risks pissing people off.

It was never going to burst.
It's deflating.
If you think audiences aren't feeling superhero fatigue at this point, you're insane. You know how every superhero film not by Marvel was getting shit reviews a couple years ago? Well now even the Marvel movies aren't doing too well critically. People just go and see them because it's a consumerist religion at this point.
They switched to CD while you were saying this
Sucks that the entire Superhero movie genre will have come and gone without a single good Superman movie to show for it. Feelsbadbro.
I was just thinking the other day about how much good capeshit vidya we've gotten compared to what we used to have... and still no Superman game. We have an open world game set in Metropolis coming up soon and even that's not a Superman game for frick's sake. At least he looks like he's fun to play in Multiversus.
>2019: superhero bubble is bursting guys
>Nothing but flops and "Disapointments" afterwards
The reason they keep making them is that they don't have a Plan B
(And really becouse they still make good enough money, just not like it used to)
Ultron was serious shit and the avengers train was saved by the Russo brothers taking over.
MCU quips are always going to be inferior to a dedicated product.
>one person on twitter said something so we're gonna dedicate countless threads to an article about it
god you losers are fricking pathetic
There's no way this will be that bad.
>B&R
So it will flop but Cinemaphile will adore it 20 years later?
Why do people keep talking about this one negative review? There's lots more negative reviews if you look for them.
The critic in question deleted that post because he got made fun of mercilessly and posted pic related instead.
He must really need the Disney paycheck.
>Flash Gordon
>Frank Frazetta
Sounds like he was just naming things that exist.
You can tell that he referenced The Seventh Seal solely because Gorr looks a bit like Death in that movie, and referenced The Fountain because a woman dies and part of it is in space
I mean if a major theme is the acceptance of the inevitability of death, then it's justified.
Seventh Seal, probably not so much
There were some clearly Frazetta inspired shots in Ragnarok so it really doesn't seem that surprising.
Gordon
Frazetta
there are sexy, lady fatales but in the MCU and in the Thor franchise this does not exist, Taika banned Kat Dennings from the Thor movies and you know why
> Flash Gordon.
I wish.
That guy got fired for Snyder shilling on Forbes.
> Thor Love & Thunder is unfunny
> Adam Sandler fan
Hmmm.
Sandler can act better than your unfunny kiwi god.
....
Most likely ironic
>what are ironic usernames
Also Uncut Gems and Hustle beat the entire MCU combined
Ouch
https://twitter.com/LegsFrank
>TheDailyBeast editor
You can see that the movie is a disaster from the trailer
Ouch.
Who would not like Jojo Rabbit?
Doing a quirky Moonrise Kingdom inspired take on the Holocaust pissed off some people.
Moonrise Kingdom didn't invent kids ffs.
Jojo Rabbit is better than Ragnarok because it balances the comedy our with emotional scenes. I wish Ragnarok and Thor's Endgame arc were more like that.
>didn't like Jojo Rabbit
Any subsequent opinion disregarded
Jojo Rabbit is morally depraved. It makes it seem like ordinary Germans were innocent dupes, as if they hadn't been watching their neighbors get rounded up and shipped off to death camps for years.
Yaah, and the city of Falkenheim doesn't exist.
It's not a historical film, moron
Ok, so set it in some fictional country then. Using the actual holocaust as a backdrop for a goofy kid adventure is gross. It's so dumb to act like you're doing satire to make a "Nazis are silly" film in 2019, it trivializes the deaths of millions of people.
People seem to be butthurt about what happens to Jane.
Apparently it has nothing to do with that. Based on a leak I read I think it might be that Thor goes into the final battle with Gorr backed up by child soldiers
It's already out?
Damn. Not sounding too good reading these early reactions.
I wonder what will happen to Taika's Star Wars Trilogy if this movie underperforms.
>Taika's Star Wars Trilogy
>Taika fricks it up by introducing Earth to the Star Wars mythos
MCU/SW crossover soon.
He would be stupid enough to do that too.
I can see some corporate suits thinking
>we have THIS popular thing
>and we have THIS popular thing
>if we mash it up together, we would have THIS^2 popular thing!
SW fans really have it rough, don't they?
Disney will pull the plug for sure. Then rework what they already wrote into an (even shittier) streaming show.
Hell they may even cut back on that after both boba and obi preformed awfully.
>Taika's Star Wars Trilogy
If Star Wars wasn't already dead, I'd probably throw up.
Star Wars with Disney is alread dead anon
>caring about Disney's Star Wars
Not to sound like a mouseketeer, but even if the reviews are bad I'm pretty sure this movie will make gorillions of dollars anyways.
Marvel movies are bomb-proof.
Eternals mate
Every fricking movie these days seems to be using Watiti. I doubt he gave enough of a shit about Thor to want to pursue again along with other projects.
Did they put nipples on Mjolnir?
Whor
Good
I know Chris is hot and all but shit man
To be fair, that's all Hemsworth is good for.
Not true. Dude's a good comedic actor
Thor isn't supposed to be a comedic character.
>a
why not?
This
Read Stan Lee's 70's arcs and you will understand how pathetic the MCU's Thor is.
>Taika would then proceed to buttrape Hemsworth on set while the cameras were still rolling.
Heard it will be included in the director's cut.
How much you guys wanna bet that Disney will let the critic reviews fall flat, while pumping up audience reviews on Rotten Tomatoes?
The exact same thing they did with Rise of Skywalker.
Letting this jackass anywhere near the IP
>thor fans
lol
Why would they let him have the movie after a line like that? Not even from a logical "he's going to screw this up" perspective. After Star Wars Disney should be fricking paranoid about people ruining their IPs.
>Why would they let him have the movie after a line like that?
Why would that affect their opinion at all? Thor was the driest member of the MCU and they're desperate for money.
>Why would they let him have the movie after a line like that?
because regardless of what you think of him, ragnarok was the most commercially successful thor movie, he could call fans drooling morons and marvel would keep him on
Hostile marketing seems in vogue these days and will remain so until it consistently backfires
every marketing is good marketing
If theres one thing that I learned and understood very clearly from following Homestuck is that the concept of "trolling creators" is fricking moronic and its just an excuse for shitty behavior.
These kind of people are more concerned with getting a strong reactiong than making something good, you absolutely cannot trust them with anything.
Taika "chose" and everyone today knows how...Tessa Thompson to play Valkyrie just to displease the fans and was going to do even worse in Love and Thunder by choosing an actress almost 60 years old to play Brunnhilde
>'Thor: Love and Thunder' Cuts Lena Headey, Peter Dinklage, Jeff Goldblum
I don't care about reviews for marvel movies anymore, especially since any reviewer worth their salt will probably just say "all marvel movies suck, the end"
If there's a MCU movie I watch simple as
>luv MCU
>'ate real cinema
>simple as
yes
frick hollywood
Batman and Robin at least has some heart like Alfred stuff, I bet Thor is soulless.
Not to mention, even is infamous to certain people, Arnie hamming up his scene is anything but memorable.
>Arnie hamming up his scene is anything but memorable.
is nothing but*
Man, was I exhausted when I wrote this post, damn...
>Cosmic Book News
Yeah ok
How the frick are people not utterly sick of these capeshit movies
Are there any other reviews? If there's several bad reviews it would be one thing, but if it's one bad review and a bunch of good reviews or reviews that say it's not great but still fun, then it's too early to say anything went wrong.
Batman and Robin would play very well today tho with how many people gobble up this fricking slop
I see, that is concerning. I'll probably go anyway since me and my friends already arranged it, but I'll go in with lower expectations.
The trailer was ugly and the premise of this movie is dumb. Thor hasn't even developed as a character to have his "i need to find myself" movie. There's nothing to find.
How fricking shitty can this movie be if even MCU-gays hate it?
Bump
>headline thread
>OP pretends to be a dozen people
>bumps the thread when it's at page 10
Isn't this tiresome?
>Make a movie adaption of Aaron's Thor
>Jane Foster, the worst thing about Thor 1 & 2 returns
>Make Jane Foster a She-Tho
>Woman Taiki is sleeping with has a prominent role in the movie
>Taiki without his handlers
Not surprising if Thor 4 fails. All the signs were there.
Who are his handlers?
not him but that's pretty easy with a script
>wasting your time saving tweets whining about Thor
>pretty easy
That sounds pathetic.
I'm allowed to be a hater because Taika Waititi is from my country and he's such an embarrassing cornball representing us on the world stage.
You're embarrassing lmao. Being this autistic about a director you don't like ain't healthy.
Gonna be honest, you're looking like the obsessive fool here
You're allowed to shit your own pants too, doesn't mean you're not looked down for it.
Nothing. Marvel is just doing subliminal shit finding a way/excuse to get rid of Taika because he doesn't fit into the Marvel formula.
Did or at least doing the same with Raimi.
>CosmicBookNews
Automatic schizo thread

>What went wrong?
Posting Pat McCrotch's clickbait on Cinemaphile, anon, but you knew that when you did it, right Matt?
In any case, the Hollywood machine its a bit weird right now, im kind of courious to know what is the plan after this
Based Taika for breaking OP's homosexual brain.
>Based Taika
The fact that you care so much proves how much of a homosexual you are.
Truth is, Infinity War was the best Thor movie.
Simple as.
Thor absolutely peaked here.
They didn't use the original Thor... before the white man stole him from us...

Literally just shit the owner makes up on the spot. The guy has not once been right.
>take a a serious epic story like the God Butcher and the shitshow that was FemThor and mash them together into another shitty quipathon
who could have seen it coming?
>What went wrong?
>Written and directed by T. David Cohen
>one bad review
>it is over
Wtf I thought Cinemaphile liked batman and robin now? What happened
Batman and Robin is a period piece, someting that couldnt be made today. A modern thing being compared to it is not a good sign even if you are a fan.
It is a movie for women and homos like Thor 2.
>What went wrong?
Gay agenda, sexy women (curvy, wearing leotards, cleavage) are not all allowed in the MCU little girls may want to be women and not trannies if they show attractive women according to their woke philosophy
Valkyrie was s Canon man hating dyke so....
aWhat happened to sif and sif liking thor?
Cosmicbooknews
Shiggy diggy
>People said Wandavision and Sahng Chi were good, while Loki and Strange 2 were bad
I had the complete opposite reaction and I'm never trusting anyone's opinions ever again. Unless it's DC, people are generally right about those.
People liked Wandavision until they shit the bed with the ending, and Shang-Chi is at the very least a competently made film, while the difference between the director's personal style and corporate mandated tone and scenes is blatant in DS2 and Loki has character development and story issues.
it needed more rape
Try naming all the actually good super hero movies.
>Batman The Dark Knight
>...Infinity War?
why didnt they just end it with endgame
We got two really solid Spider-Man movies from the Endgame aftermath.
>two really solid Spider-Man movies
No, Raimi's movies came much before Endgame. And they weren't MCU.
It's funny that this movie looks so cheap that this tie in commercial could be an scene in the movie.
>King Valkyrie
I know. It's all so moronic
I don't know why they insist on not calling her Queen. Is Queen an offensive title now?
Either Queen is a lesser title to King since the Queens that ruled in their own right occurred far less often than Kings, or they want to be woke and just remove gendered words, like how they're starting to refer to female actresses as "actors" even though it means the same fricking thing
wait, so they first enforced gendered titles like marksWOMAN, CongressWOMAN etc and now they're going back to male neutral? hah
No, they're doing stupid shit like "congressperson" now
Movies are a reflection of the times.
