It will be like the Imitation Game, something that was incredibly complex, important and game changing, but mostly achieved by lots of people spending lots of time figuring stuff out and experimenting. This makes for poor cinema, so every personal story around it is dialled up 1000% and difficulty and roadblocks will be created or overblown to add more tension.
Hence Matt Damon in the trailer going 'this is the most important thing in the world!'
There are a lot of (non combat) ww2 stories getting the film treatment because they are straightforward to write and create, Operation mincemeat with Colin Firth is another, but this is one of the first Hollywood ones I'm aware of

Of all the things to take issue with, I don’t think that Leslie Groves saying “this is the most important thing in the world” concerning the expedient production of the US nuclear bomb before the Heisenberg could make one is a huge deal. You’re 100% right about everything else though; there will be things that never happened for drama’s sake.

Matt Damon hamming it up and it being in the trailer is there to get the drama across to the audience, of course making the bomb is one of the most important things to come out of the war, but to sell it cinema goers they need to highlight the stakes very clearly and simply

This movie draws heavily from 'The Sexual Cycle of Human Warfare.' It's climax will be a pairing of scenes that alternate between Oppenheimer having sex with his girlfriend, and preparation of the bomb drop on Hiroshima. Oppenheimer cums when the bomb is finally dropped, the sound of his girlfriend's moan as she orgasms will be paired with the image of the mushroom cloud.

My favorite bomb trivia is that when they were testing the nuclear chain reaction in the basement labs of University of Chicago, they had grad student assistants at the reactor with water bottles to try and cool it off in case the chain reaction went awry. Not knowing of course that if that happened those water bottles would not have done much.

My favorite trivia is that they still have one of the original reactors used in the Manhattan Project hidden away in the tunnels under Columbia University in Manhattan. I got to see it with my own two eyes.
