This obscure af, almost forgotten piece of work has resurfaced among the normies solely due to these movies. >Time will not be kind to it
in the sense that the movies will be re-discovered by some super wokes in the future long after being forgotten causing shitstorm because le white savior trope. And the few bookgays alive would be screaming at them how it's le critic, deconstruction etc etc.
That's the legacy of dune
yep, too much time wasted on mediocre action scenes and the dumbed down dialogue didn't help
I really enjoyed the second one, but I have one major problem with it, and this problem occurs in most of Villeneuve’s work.
The fricking minimalistic set design. All the rooms are empty and bland. Every single one.
>The fricking minimalistic set design
the emperor always wearing rags looked like shit and made him seem even more like a weak and clueless buffoon, but maybe that was intentional idk
It was OK but making the Fremen women equal to the men is huge change they’re supposed to be a foreign and absurd culture that treats their women like property.
I respect the attempt and I think about it as a really well done adaptation with clear vision of what it is about. I still think Dune in a movie format is a shitty fricking idea cause you just can't fit all the shit in.
he managed to make one of my favorite books and make it completely uninteresting.
i'd say he was successful since normies seem to like it,
and it's even convinced a couple of people that i know to give the books a shot so thats something.
it doesnt stop the movies from being ass, but it did accomplish its goal.
I hope he stops. He made Arrakis into a thoroughly bleak and hopeless environment and stripped it of things that made it exotic and interesting. I'm also not impressed by his DEI decisions for characters.
My problem is that he made it look like an apocalyptic wasteland. The harkonnen look literally like the helghast from the shitty killzone games.
The series and Lynch unironically understood the world better.
The movies looked great, and got the story across very well. Most casting was good. Chalamet has the twink look that Paul has.
Lasguns being actual lasers was something that you almost never see.
But the equalized gender roles amongst the Fremen was a mistake. Women being practical property amongst them was one of the ways in which the Fremen were considered backwards and alien. And Chani being somewhat more aggressive made her stand out, but DUNC went quite a bit too far with that. Right now, Messiah is not really a possibility, as Chani decided to flee into the desert
You may also be surprised to learn that it's also why women lust after attractive men - because they're attractive. Incredibly, and by good fortune, men also lust after attractive women.
>finally watch 1984 one >now youtube bombarded with "ackshully old bad new good"
I get what's bad about 84 one, but I don't want to watch the new one, even the few clips that I've seen I didn't like >protag looks small >everything is too smooth, even worms >the "silence" shout doesn't feel imposing, but I guess I have to be in a theater for that one since everyone suspiciously repeats the same phrase about it shaking the audience >1984 Paul enduring pain and screaming "THE PAIN" is bad, but new one acting wienery like it's so easy is somehow good?
I liked it well enough, mainly for how it handled Paul and Feyd with a more measured and minimalist approach, but why is everyone acting like it's some major own against hollywood movies when it's basically a hollywood production? It's like every video I get recommended about it has some wannabe critic or video essayist trying to weaponize it for their crusade in some culture war, even down to the same talking points. It's like everyone's copying each others homework over this shit.
I hate how perfectly they set up the worms in the first movie, only to turn them into glorified war elephant/surfboard hybrids
Production value is through the roof, but the lore seems really goofy HOOOAAAAAAAA HEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
Half of Cinemaphile probably doesn't even watch movies or TV so pointless asking. I thought it was a good take, a really good watch in the cinema too. Especially considering there's been no good movies for a long time.
I think before Dune 2 I really enjoyed Top Gun in cinema. Only few that stand out in past few year.
>I think before Dune 2 I really enjoyed Top Gun in cinema
Since DUNC 2 the last two movies I saw at a theater were Top Gun 2 and The Northman
How are these frickers still in business?
>How are these frickers still in business?
My local one actually puts old movies on quite frequently and I honestly think it's a great idea. I went to see Alien and Aliens back to back last year and the theatre was basically near full, in comparison to when I went to see Dune, where it was about half full.
I rewatched it at home from my monitor and it wasn't as good as I remember it; a 7/10 at most, honestly, but it is just lacks a lot of substance. I have heard that the books are supposed to be better, as always.
There is also the fact that Zendaya plays Chani, and that she is a rebellious variant of her (for some reason?).
At first it didn't bother me too much — I mean, Zendaya is kind of alright looking; she just has an inconsistent appearance — but upon second watching I cannot believe they used those angles for her; she looked like shit in 50% of all scenes. Maybe it is just a mismatch between her and Chalamet, who looks good in every angle and lighting (no I am not a gay).
The scene where he speaks in front of all the tribe leaders, as well as the "SILENCE!", is still really kino.
>The scene where he speaks in front of all the tribe leaders, as well as the "SILENCE!", is still really kino.
Will never be able to take that effeminate homosexual twink seriously in a man role
i didn't watch
No. He played it too safe for the normalgays. Time will not be kind to it.
>
the harkonens scenes were the most weirdest so far, normalgays loved it.
Women especially loved the new villain

This. As it stands, it's just a decent space fantasy.
yep, too much time wasted on mediocre action scenes and the dumbed down dialogue didn't help

I don't feel like he's fully commited to the weirdness of Dune. They're fun blockbusters, but that's it.
First movie sucks ass, the original book was good, but Herbert kind of a hack.
Star Wars always was and always will be superior to Dune.
Frick the Twi'leks, literally.
boring and soulless
It was OK but making the Fremen women equal to the men is huge change they’re supposed to be a foreign and absurd culture that treats their women like property.
I've never read the books but they are great films.
>they are great films.
Yeah you clearly have never read books
List the best things about the books.
Books in general. I guess you can't even read. Anyway thanks for the QED.
I have trouble getting into books.
I respect the attempt and I think about it as a really well done adaptation with clear vision of what it is about. I still think Dune in a movie format is a shitty fricking idea cause you just can't fit all the shit in.
It should have been a series.

Is Arrakis ever described as something else?
If anything, my problem is that it does not look at all most of the time in the movies, and the lack of severely dehydrated people is also disturbing.
*hot
My problem is that he made it look like an apocalyptic wasteland. The harkonnen look literally like the helghast from the shitty killzone games.
The series and Lynch unironically understood the world better.
There are bushes and birds and wild rabbits on Arrakis. It is not all sand dunes.
It's dull and bland. Denny villynilly is a hack.
Why do you always mess up names in such a funny way?
The movies looked great, and got the story across very well. Most casting was good. Chalamet has the twink look that Paul has.

lol no
>billions will die
Why is it ok when this incel says it but when I say it people lose their minds?
Same reason women lust after some serial killers.
He's attractive

agree
yeh it's pretty cool

Didin't watch. Villememe can't make movies and the cast is hideous and cringe
watching 2 rn bored out of my mind
Same. I'm like in and out of it though. AS WRITTEN.
Third time's the charm.
I hate how perfectly they set up the worms in the first movie, only to turn them into glorified war elephant/surfboard hybrids

a half-hearted take at best
I liked the Harkonnen and Saurdukar scenes, nice audio.

I use to have an Alamo Draft House near me that played old movie and had movie parties and shit but they went under 🙁
Omaha?
I watch plenty of old movies. I'ts just yours that are unwatchable.
Spice mommy was my favorite part
she mogs the mutt so hard that it's distracting, nobody with a mom that hot would fall in love with somebody like zendaya

He is 15 years old in the book man...
He was cast for a reason
