I think Ronnie broke up with the girl he draws in his comics which has led to him being depressed
I think this isn't the first time this has happened
I did some sleuthing and it looks like he did have a gf/fiance(?) for like 4 months

Ronnie was dating a girl and was happy making it harder to do his comic about his depression, she dumped him for whatever reason and he spiraled. Instead of doing more Whomp comics though he decided to work more on his other comics and has been doing them since

It was funny and then got really bad as it was clear he was out of ideas. Then IRL Ronnie got a girlfriend and the girlfriend broke up with him and he's been sad ever since and barely does the comic so nobody cares.
