I like it. Then again, it's low effort to keep up on a webcomic you check on once a month.
They dropped that idea and just made them all girls. Still kept the four elements idea and mostly the designs. Then they killed off the team so it's just Water with other girls.
For me at least it seems the one criteria to be chosen to be a meguca is to strongly desire to be a meguca and be qualified for that (so, it's pretty much just young people the chosen ones).
Biological gender be dammed, you get meguca with wiener now.
She kind of didn't want to be one though. She eventually got out there, but early on she was being bullied because she was in the really nice school for magical girls that gets the big government bucks, but wasn't going out at night to fight.
I wouldn't know the context. I dropped that show as soon as it became moronic. Had to filter the threads

I kept watching until Season 8 because I had nothing better to do with my life and I couldn't find the will to watch better shows.
It took me until 2021 to finally watch Naruto. God I'm so stupid, that show was so amazing when it wasn't shit.
This >only ONE girl had a negative relationship with the protagonist >author could easily develop a complex relationship where both must work together and respect each other without being friends >kill her off instead >now everybody is just kissing Undyne ass >none of her friends but the original team died afterwards
The comic is kinda shitty
>author could easily develop a complex relationship where both must work together and respect each other without being friends
You know what's more frustrating? Mary can easily write this dynamic, and we know 'cause she did it already.
That's my main problem with this comic, the relationships are not diverse, it's just a lot of regular simple friendships, the other is the lack of characters with goals other than just being a generic superhero, it's such a big cast but there is no diversity of relationships and personalities, everything feels the same, the lack of humor is another problem, there are no jokes even though it's a light hearted family friendly story.
Dunno, I didn't read Madoka. However each character being it hero or villain having their own different goals is pretty basic on storytelling, something this comic lacks for whatever reason, that's why it's not interesting to focus on any character but the two protagonists and even those two are too similar to each other.
my problem is that if this was a show, this would be like episode 5 of 25 by how little has happened. We killed the old cast in the first episode, introduced the new cast, there was some action and the villain has barely done anything.
Team Alchemical dying feels kind of like a rugpull. Like, you have this setup of a team and put together and have some generic character traits to everyone, and then before you get to know anyone... bam, everybody's dead. And now it's a story about somebody dealing with that, while the cover still features three dead people.
I still like the comic. It's just strange how so much marketing went into the "main five" cast only for them to get run over by the metaphorical bus.
Funny enough, I read the comic not being subjected to the marketing, I just kind of heard about it and gave it a read. Their death were surprising but being early on the comic I kind of got what they where going for. There are already make comics with magical elemental teams of female friends, this comics gives something different by going of script and just using the alchemical team as a jumping point.
I want to like it because I liked Kiwi Blitz but it is mediocre at best >Oh no, the original team died
We got so little to do with them that any sadness the comic expects me to feel just makes me think of lost potetnial instead. >Undine's adventures
Mostly boring, sidetracked by a romance plot, and the one person who provided any conflict in the new setup was killed off immediately(barely got introduced before immediatly going poof) so we have time for more romance while the plot moves at a glacial pace.
The only halfway decent part of the story is Tessa.
Like the art though.
Team Alchemical's demise is wasted potential, the audience barely had any time to meet them more properly and develop genuine affection on them.
But Cassie's demise is almost insulting, like finally actual conflict in Undine's life beyond the meguca shit, and then Cass gets GTFO the plot for it. Cass made the mistake of questioning the actual comic, and putting the author pet in question too.
Well the comic is about the survivors going on with their lives. You have Toroko the weakest and lamest of the girls dealing with continuing her career and making new friends, and Tessa going to lame school and her spiral of grief until she gets gooped. The mysteryof what is going on in this world is the main appeal of the story.
>Who is the goop girl >Who is the girl that narrates the story >Whats the deal with that one guy and his pet rat?
I like the world I like the mystery of what is beyond the barrier, I like the weird culture that forms around magical girls. But I wish we went on to business already, the purple girl is clearly not the main villain, and there is more to the world that meets the eye. But I want the characters to get there now. This comic updates once a week, is not the kind of story where characters should have long winded conversations about the same stuff they've been talking about many times already.
I like the weird alchemy witch and her conspiracy theories and how the people in charge already knows what's beyond the dome but keep it a secret because any answer would be to depressing.
>This comic updates once a week, is not the kind of story where characters should have long winded conversations about the same stuff they've been talking about many times already.
Webcomics really should take into consideration their update schedule and not waste time if they don't put out pages that often.
The "one or a few pages a week" model is completely old hat. At this point they should be doing either complete 18-20 page chapters biweekly or like 4 page weekly chapters like twitter manga.
Webcomics update way too slowly which is why they've become a moribund medium.
Heavy spoilers but they didn't like >Garnet being a gay couple. Permanently ruined character. I don't think so personally, but that's the main sentiment from Cinemaphile >The reveal of the diamonds >The reveal of Pink Diamond >The reveal of Rose's past >There's no other life forms in space >Lapis, a fan favorite, becoming lesbian couple with Peridot while ignoring the past interaction with Crystal Gems >Lapis and Crystal Gems tensions dropped >Bismuth is revealed to be ugly black >Lars ends up cucked >Completely unnecessary polygamy gem lore drop which is a hideous grandma caterpillar abomination >The chest on Look is emptied out and is unknown
>I don't think so personally, but that's the main sentiment from Cinemaphile
Cinemaphile has this violent, irrational hatred of lesbians for no good reason I can figure out besides "they can't self-insert into their porn". Which is moronic.
Anons hate lesbians because they think it's woke and that IRL lesbians are horrible and not sexy. Anons only want hot women to be for white men and will not settle for any deviation. No compromises, no sharing. It's also easy to complain about and get (you)'s.

My hate just came from recent cartoons being garbage and just defaulting to lazy lesbian shipping at cost of everything. Not that there's anything wrong with lesbian stuff inherently, but too often the characters in lesbian ships become lobotomized.

Also shipping is awesome. The most fun I had in the second half of Star Vs were the shipping episodes.

Rude, but I clearly stated what I dislike. Ships take priority over anything else in these stories: so the stories suffer as a result. It's not lesbian specific even, Korra is a good example of it with S1 characters (Bolin and Asami) becoming flandarized versions of themselves the very moment Mako and Korra get back together, but lesbian ships are overly common when this does happen. >Also shipping is awesome. Good on you anon, ships ruined it for me. Well S2 ships are much preferable to what happen after with the whole Star and Marco being forced together.

Nobody argues that Korra is good. That show's just uniquely disappointing, and Makorra being such a bad ship is most of the reason Korrasami was seen as inoffensive outside of here. Christ, this place losing their minds over it despite how all the alternatives sucked.

>Well S2 ships are much preferable to what happen after with the whole Star and Marco being forced together.
I got pissed that Jarco broke up, too, and think Starco as a ship got handled horribly, but I can still see good in between the bad. Seasons 3 and 4 aren't better than 2, but I still found the Markelly episode and the Blood Moon breakup fun.
The reveals where't the problem it was that the execution was shit. And Steve did jack shit once he discovered many of the earth shattering revelations.
The team is formed around the theme of emotions with the view that all are valid; Happiness, love, sadness, fear, anger. Even the negative ones. Sometimes to beat a foe you need blind range, sometimes it's healthy to feel fear.
if you wanna be edgy, the joy one is suffering because she's fricking hates it, seeing awful stuff going on around her and still only ever feeling happy. It really fricks with her out of costume I'm a massive gay for magirl girl shit, got cringe oc's and currently running a magical girl ttrpg. I don't get to talk about this genre on Cinemaphile a whole lot and frick going to Cinemaphile
>frick going to Cinemaphile
Eh, the threads for the specifical magical girls series that I like: princess tutu, ojamajo doremi and nanoha are usually fine. Idk about the rest.
Neat, I’m doing that too (though mixed with capes, final girls, and detectives)
Personally I recommend making a strong villain for them to fight in personality and emphasizing the contrast
Involve nation states and have the girls use unique powers. Don't go off the wall crazy in power levels. Cute women. If you need a trans char just do one that has a shazzam like transformation that fricks with their mind if in one state too long.
Idk yet but in my opinion magical girls work so much better in animation than in comics/vidya/literature so I would make it an animated series(if I had the time and skill necessary of course)
Sharing my magical girl pitch here: >A story about a girl having to deal with all sorts of problems except her problems are monsters she has to fight as a magical girl because of a wish

Suicide Girl works but it's largely because the art is really fricking kinetic so the action always looks really goddamn good.

What bout Sparkling Generation Valkyrie yuuki? Another dead web comic, that never ended. I get artist want to tell a story but maybe they should be realistic on on how much they can handle.
>What bout Sparkling Generation Valkyrie yuuki? Another dead web comic, that never ended. I get artist want to tell a story but maybe they should be realistic on on how much they can handle.
Never read it
Now when the hell are all three going to cross over?
>What's Cinemaphile opinion about this comic?
I expected something more original and better executed. Trying to reinvent mahou shoujo after Madoka is a recipe for failure. The characters are all shallow as frick and I lost interest after realizing it was going to be a mystery box just like Madoka. Good art but that's par for the course with Cagle.
I honestly preferred her journal comic about being a teacher in Japan and I thought that it was utterly ridiculous that she would give up a promising career living abroad just so she could spend more time on making a silly fantasy webcomic.
It seems like it's a rotating door system though. They don't want real english teachers, they want to take someone who barely knows japanese, throw them in with the kids and let them figure it out. Maybe she could have stayed a bit longer, but promising career is a stretch.
Yeah it's pretty much this.
Mary got the job mostly for the experience instead of an actual solid career position. Fitting for a traditionalist country like Japan.
But hey, at the end we got some of the best Mary has to offer out of her experiences there.
I read the first pages but I forgot to continue it. Should I pick it up again?
Which one of them is a dude again?
I like it. Then again, it's low effort to keep up on a webcomic you check on once a month.
They dropped that idea and just made them all girls. Still kept the four elements idea and mostly the designs.
Then they killed off the team so it's just Water with other girls.
Zoe.
i love this kinda joke question does have an unironic answer.
The logistics of this are still a mystery to me.
For me at least it seems the one criteria to be chosen to be a meguca is to strongly desire to be a meguca and be qualified for that (so, it's pretty much just young people the chosen ones).

God says trans rights
I dropped it when they killed off Cassidy for pointing out how weird Undyne acts.
That's not why she died. Also Undyne comes clean afterwards.
Then why did she die?
Because the goop girl fueled her jealousy so she can become a powerful monster after reincarnation
>characters pointing out the stupid is only under the influence of evil
Didn't Cube criticize RWBY Season 6 of doing this?
I wouldn't know the context. I dropped that show as soon as it became moronic. Had to filter the threads

Dunno, I didn't read Madoka. However each character being it hero or villain having their own different goals is pretty basic on storytelling, something this comic lacks for whatever reason, that's why it's not interesting to focus on any character but the two protagonists and even those two are too similar to each other.
That's what you selfinsertgays get for projecting to some jealous incel girl
What the frick are you talking about
What are YOU talking about? Cassidy was the one being super weird with her /x/ rant gibberish
I don't appreciate writers who use strawmen to deflect criticism.
I like Let's speak English better
It looks like high guardian spice.
Ugky
I love the magical girl aesthetic but it's always woke trash in the west
The whole point of the comic is that the lame one on the team gets to live and continue now that she is alone.

Is interesting but it has the same problem all webcomics have of having a glacial pace.
i miss Kiwi Blitz, i miss my wolf son and my robot daughter.
sorry for shilling these goobers but i really miss 'em (and Kiwi Blitz in general).
I want to like it because I liked Kiwi Blitz but it is mediocre at best

I don't mind them dying, they felt generic, in retrospective their death where telegraph as frick.

Are there any shows that never frick up in the eyes of Cinemaphile?
The ones that Cinemaphile doesn't talk about are the best since but ironically there is nothing to talk about so they fall into obscurity.
I like this one, it had a lot of mysteries and I think they mostly paid off.
LoGH
Worst girls survived
Has the blue girl fugged the pink punch girl yet?
All I know they kissed.
No, slow updates. We get maybe two pages a month. They aren't very part past that part, just fought Goopy and went on TV about it.
Making a Cinemaphile magical girl series, any suggestions
Base the girls off Australian Wildlife
The main character is Italian
In that case, theme them off of pizza toppings
Mahō Shōjo Pizza Toweru~
a magical girl with the classic look and all that jazz, but her weapon is a skateboard

Insect magical girl

Don't lie, you're making Power Rangers with a all girl team
I'm not if its just
madoka?
I think this was made before Madoka.
madoka ripoffed this?
"Magical Girls but serious" is sub-genre itself.
Nah, the author even cited meguca as inspiration.
It's a good comic, but it's also the kind Cinemaphile will bounce right off.
Sharing my magical girl pitch here:
>A story about a girl having to deal with all sorts of problems except her problems are monsters she has to fight as a magical girl because of a wish
Do more girls show up, or does it stay solo?
Her best friend and her rival find out her secret, and they become magical girls too.
I wanted to do a semi-magical girl story but it would have been a oneshot about the male friend of a magical girl falling in love with a MotW girl.
Suicide Girl works but it's largely because the art is really fricking kinetic so the action always looks really goddamn good.
>I wanted to do a semi-magical girl story but it would have been a oneshot about the male friend of a magical girl falling in love with a MotW girl.

Didn't grab my interest / 10
I like this chick's complaining about RWBY, but her webcomic is just boring.
Yeah, one of the writers getting so mad at her that he went on an hours long twitter rant and then privated his account was amazing.
Remember when he said MHA was about 15 minutes of explaining powers with 5 minutes of fighting?
Yeah, kek. I still want to what the hell a "victim face" is supposed to be.
What would I gain from shilling my magical girl series on Cinemaphile?
Contrarians who will read and enjoy it, like I do with HGS.
Anti-fans who will religiously follow your comic to make hate threads. NSFW content will be pretty good though. Think Questionable Content.
What would be there to hate?
Akazukin Chacha, Yume no Crayon Oukoku, Ojamajo Doremi, Princess Tutu
>Princess Tutu
Oh hey, there's a show I've watched.
Cool.
>Akazukin Chacha
Excellent taste
I wish there was more flavor stuff like this.
I thought this was real. No I will never be a magical boy 🙁
But you can always be a magical girl.
He cute.
My magical girl series was not inspired by Sailor Moon, Star Vs, or Steven Universe
Then what inspired it?
>inb4 real life
Winx Club? Symphogear?
Hypothetically, If I were to make a magical boy story, would I be taking fashion cues from Japanese school uniforms?
If you like them, why not?
I assumed girl uniforms are what magical girl outfits started out using for inspiration. The idea is to stick close to source material.
That is a pretty valid reason but the few magic boys that exist don't seem to have outfits necessary inspired by japanese school uniforms.
I’d suggest either that, knights, or Kamen Rider.
Personally mine look like regular guys with crystals, scales, and weapons jutting out of their bodies in a horrific monster state, but that’s just because my magical boys are the unwilling victims of a horrific magic implantation surgery carried out by rogue agents
Me: Miss Cube Marie Watermelonium, can we get Kiwi Blitz back?
Monkey Paw:
>not wanting a team of cyber magical girls
>and their manager
i would love that... IF THEY WERE THE MAIN CHARACTERS.
What are the chances that we have superheroes outside of the barrier
Very slim, considering foreshadowing is pointing to the Founder/OG magical girl also being the source of the monsters.
How much of a girl do you need to be to get magical powers?
Do you need to fully troon out?
Not revealed, but you at least have to identify as a girl and be under the age of 18.
It would make complete sense in canon for there to be government hired groomers for when they need to bolster their ranks
There would be clashing with Founder fundamentalists who would hold they stray too far from the Founder's example.
no landboats
Madoka ripoff.
I didn't like when Madoka did it either, but a bunch of e-girlcons with no taste really loved it.
a man of null degree of culture, i see.
>I didn't like when Madoka did it either
I did like it, until the movies. This feels like Mary's hoping no one ever saw Madoka.
Remember that other magical girl comic?
Never heard of this one. Is "Why I Hate My Life" the title?
Magical girl Neil you need to get it through the way back machine since the author deleted everything
https://archive.org/details/magical-girl-niel
Magical girl Neil? is like a memroy is forcing itself to the surface.
>Magical girl Neil? is like a memroy is forcing itself to the surface.
I wish it continued I want a dam vessel
What bout Sparkling Generation Valkyrie yuuki? Another dead web comic, that never ended. I get artist want to tell a story but maybe they should be realistic on on how much they can handle.
>What bout Sparkling Generation Valkyrie yuuki? Another dead web comic, that never ended. I get artist want to tell a story but maybe they should be realistic on on how much they can handle.
Never read it
Now when the hell are all three going to cross over?
Mostly it didnt paid of. Not enough monetisation and other projects paid better.
looks like that crunchyroll cartoon they claimed was an anime

I expected something more original and better executed. Trying to reinvent mahou shoujo after Madoka is a recipe for failure. The characters are all shallow as frick and I lost interest after realizing it was going to be a mystery box just like Madoka. Good art but that's par for the course with Cagle.
>it was going to be a mystery box just like Madoka
Madoka wasn't a mystery box.
I honestly preferred her journal comic about being a teacher in Japan and I thought that it was utterly ridiculous that she would give up a promising career living abroad just so she could spend more time on making a silly fantasy webcomic.
That comic is how I learned what kancho is.
Passion is passion, can't blame her.
Game Center CX for me.
Reminds me of Pani Poni Dash
It seems like it's a rotating door system though. They don't want real english teachers, they want to take someone who barely knows japanese, throw them in with the kids and let them figure it out. Maybe she could have stayed a bit longer, but promising career is a stretch.
Yeah it's pretty much this.
Mary got the job mostly for the experience instead of an actual solid career position. Fitting for a traditionalist country like Japan.
But hey, at the end we got some of the best Mary has to offer out of her experiences there.
