As frustrating as people find it sometimes is genuinely the real answer. Start there, go till you get bored.

Yeah, the Silver/early Bronze Age stuff really codifies Spider-Man. The narration and dialogue can be a hurdle to enjoying 60-year-old comics, but the drama, the villains, the action... It's all there.

I can never stop thinking or laughing about the guy ontop the roof, dressed in blue who look like he's giving peter the middle finger.

Oh cool this dude. He's that vampire villain who doomed an entire world for selfish reasons.

        He is not a vampire.

    >Marvel Adventures Spider-Man Vol 1 #53
It might seem weird to start at issue 53, but 51-52 is just sort of generic villain-of-the-week fare with no real interconnected stories. #53 soft rebooted the comic line and became what I consider to be one of the best Spidey incarnations period. It's also one of the few series to step outside the box and make new characters instead of recycling old ones forever.

Nah, that's largely incomplete and ends on inconclusive or sour notes, if anon's curious about the whole of Brand New Day/Slott they're best reading right up until 2021 and the end of Nick Spencer's run seeing as that works as a functional send-off to those entire eras, it has a hopeful ending (which is rare for Spidey nowadays) and it necessitated Marvel to start from scratch again starting with Beyond.

Start with Amazing Fantasy 15 then continue through ASM 1 - 400 (picking up Spectacular, Web Of, and Adjectiveless as they start up). If you really want to you can finish out the Clone Saga (418) or even go through to The Final Chapter (441) but nothing beyond that besides JMS's run is recommended

If you're gonna do a Kraven read I'd add Amazing Spiderman 209, Peter Parker Spectacular 65, and Ka Zar the Savage 19-21 before his last hunt. These last few appearances before it introduce his love interest Calypso who gives him his powers. It also has his storylines change from one who will claim a win over Spiderman no matter what into a man of honor who goes to some amazing lengths to protect his honor in the fights in theses issues, as well as a story about Kraven wanting to put his rivalry with Pete to bed but in a peaceful manner.

My favorite run was Stern's starts at Amazing 224. Has a lot of secret masked characters making plays to become the top gang lord of NY.

Amazing Fantasy#15 through to all the books in 1998. After that the original and true canon diverges, from there read the Spider-Girl trades if you want the good ending.

Honestly start at the beginning, Spidey stops being good after 1996 anyway aside from USM

Unpopular opinion, just go watch Spectacular, then read the arcs they took from
