seinfeld doesn't even get a chuckle out of me 90% of the time, although that's probably because I am not American and the humor doesn't ring with me at all. Friends was more enjoyable generally but admitted, even for me, when Seinfeld was funny, it was way above anything friends ever accomplished. You are also completely right about friends.
the point of sitcoms is not to deliver stand up comedy jokes. the show is called a situational comedy. the situations themselves and the character's reactions to them are supposed to be humorous.

Rachel's case was pretty hilariously unrealistic too. Starts off as a server at coffee shop, still lives in Manhattan and can contribute enough rent to live in a 2 bedroom with Monica. Has no college degree, somehow ends up with a fasion job making bank. Ends up getting offered a job in Paris and has lucrative offers from her company to keep her. All with no college degree or any real experience.

How I Met Your Mother was sort of the closest to an equivalent ten years ago. Maybe The Big Bang Theory counts? But even that's done. I actually have no idea what sitcoms exist today. Are sitcoms even successful anymore? Or non-cable TV shows at all? Did it all end after the early 2010s?
BBT was unironically the last good sitcom. Roseanne was going well until Roseanne herself was cancelled.

Young Sheldon is pretty good but I'm getting tired with it. I think this is the season where Sheldons mom cheats on his dad and then his dad dies and I'm not really interested in the emotional drama that is going to cause.
The Neighbourhood on CBS with cedric the entertainer is alright. it's very cringe at times but there are some witty and off color jokes once in awhile and it's slow and comfy.
