    >that the fusion in Steven universe is an allegory for sex .
thats about as much of a "theory", as the idea that the gems in Steven Universe are based on gemstones
sure, nobody said it, but it's not exactly hidden

That's the point of this thread I want example of ideas and theories that's kinda there but you need Someone to point out to pyou to see it

Is that your point? I thought that you meant fan theories that were clearly true at one point but were retroactively false because of reasons.
        >fusion is an allegory for sex
        >no, no, Steven didn't have sex with his dad!

They're based on "relationships", there are more kinds of relationships other than sex you fricking morons

The fusion=sex thing is blatantly wrong because gems fuse ALL THE TIME with no sexual connotations. Aside from Garnet and Rainbow Quartz Mk1 there is no sexual element to it unless you want to make stevonnie two 12 year olds going at it. Please stop.

It’s some next level bonding bullshit that’s supposed to “go beyond” petty human copulation rituals or some pretentious xeno shit like that.

        >pretentious xeno shit
Nail, meet head. "We need to talk" was aaaaaaal about this concept. The fact that Pearl thought her and Rose's relationship was beyond what Greg could offer her because they could fuse. But she was wrong! Sometimes a diamond just wants her pussy crushed by an ape.

Pearl was getting off on that shit with Garnet.

Pearl is a total pearlvert, yes. The series makes this abundantly clear. If there's one person who's desperate enough that she'd go fuse behind the bleachers with anyone, without protection, its Pearl.

    >For me it's that the fusion in Steven universe is an allegory for sex .
It's more of an allegory for relationships in general. Sexual or otherwise. About how when multiple people join together, they can create something greater than themselves.

I acknowledge this is what the series says after very suggestive initial Giant Womaning. I get it lets more stories be told But it then becomes so vague it dilutes any meaning to the point of utter bewildermint gum.

If gems (or gems and people) can fuse by accident like with pretty much all of Steven's what the hell does that "say"? "Spontaneity is good?". "Relationships... change?" Is Steven better friends with Amethyst. I have never had the impression Steven was closer to her than the other gems Even in their tag-team wrestling episode. It's a metaphor without a meaning.

        >very suggestive initial Giant Womaning.
        What?
        >If gems (or gems and people) can fuse by accident like with pretty much all of Steven's what the hell does that "say"?
It says that bonds can form organically, whether we intend them to or not. Especially during adolescence.
        > Is Steven better friends with Amethyst. I have never had the impression Steven was closer to her than the other gems Even in their tag-team wrestling episode.
i think it's more that they have the most in common with one another, and are better able to relate on the same level.
        >It's a metaphor without a meaning.
No, it's jus not hyper-specific enough to suit your liking. The fusion=sex metaphor was never a thing.

Pearl was getting off on that shit with Garnet.

takes like this are just... So boring and uninspired. Not to mention needlessly limiting.

You seem to think I'm obsessed with sex. When I'm just upset the concept lacks consistency or structure. So that it has not impact on the principle character. Garnet's a fusion all the time, in a stable committed relationship. Except when Ruby gets mad at Pearl... that is so damaging it ruins their relationship with each other? To say nothing how stupid the conflict is perpetuated because Sapphire lacks empathy for her partner .

If that's what we were to take away that's a pretty shitty relationship and ... it's still "a relationship". The random Same-Type gems homeworld has fuse have "relationships". All the gems have a "Relationship" with the Diamonds. "Relationship" encompasses every possible way two people may be aware of one another. Hell it can probably define everything extant in the universe in the right terms.

            >You seem to think I'm obsessed with sex.
Never thought that for a second. Mostly just think you lack imagination.
            >When I'm just upset the concept lacks consistency or structure.
It doesn't need to he an allegory for a very specific human experience to be consistent.
            >So that it has not impact on the principle character.
            Did you watch the show?
            >Garnet's a fusion all the time, in a stable committed relationship. Except when Ruby gets mad at Pearl... that is so damaging it ruins their relationship with each other?
Their relationship isn't ruined. They're just in a fight. it happens. No relationship is perfect, and sometimes people spend time apart because of it.
            >the conflict is perpetuated because Sapphire lacks empathy for her partner.
We all do sometimes. It's in Sapphire's nature to be less connected to her emotions, and by extension, the emotions of others. Honestly, they are both just projection their hurt with Pearl on each other.
            >If that's what we were to take away that's a pretty shitty relationship
Because they reacted badly to one situation?
            >The random Same-Type gems homeworld has fuse have "relationships".
Yeah, work relationships, that feel impersonal and don't leave an impression.
            >All the gems have a "Relationship" with the Diamonds.
            You're too close to see.
            >"Relationship" encompasses every possible way two people may be aware of one another. Hell it can probably define everything extant in the universe in the right terms.
Okay, but it's an allegory. It's not meant to map on perfectly. It's specifically referring to interpersonal relationships, and how they affect the individuals involved, as well as how they come together to create something new and unique.
And yeah, the way interpersonal relationships function can be very different, which was part of the point. Part of what makes the different fusions interesting to engage with is how the dynamic between the individual characters affects the personality and looks of the fusions.
