Knowing it is a bait and switch I won't watch it. No for "le bad, le chud" cultural war reasons, but simply since I have no entry for the whole series (never read the comic, never watched the movie) so it being "AU/Sequel" forces me into putting it in the fridge until I will caught up

I honestly found the comic horribly dull. I just couldn't get into it and I never would've finished it without the storytime.

I mean, you are right. But I've read from many people that the movie is pretty much incomplete compared to the comic. In a way or another, I will catch in future. Just not so soonish...

In terms of what you need to know, the movie does a good job since it covers all the basics. Nothing from the comic is really in the show, episode one is essentially the first fiftreen minutes of the movie then it goes in another direction.

I loved it and from what I saw online the writers and everything said they don't want a season 2 even tho this shit is fire as frick. Seriously, why not? This will make them so much god damn money and they dont want it? They should just do Scott Pilgrim the Comic as an animated Series and it would be amazing. Shit I bet they could do like several seasons of it.

Also, so fricking what. Get over it.

They said they didn’t hold back any ideas for a season 2. They didn’t want to leave any unused ideas on the cutting room floor because there’s never a guarantee of season 2 with Netflix.
I’m sure they’re open to doing another season.

If they wanted to, they could just buy the series from Netflix, start a youtube channel and patreon the series and it would go through the roof I bet.

Sounded like it, you worded it like they only made this for a payout. If they've gone on record with saying they didn't want to hold anything back and are happy with the end result, making another season would just be to please the crowd, ergo, milking it.
I'd also like to see a full-on adaptation of the comic but I'm happy with what we got and I'll gladly wait a long time for if/when the creators feel like they're up to it.

              Whatever.

Honestly yeah, the fact that they even did this much was amazing. I'm glad we got the LA actors to play their LA roles as VAs too.

Totally. Hearing so many of the actors talk about what a special experience the movie was really made it feel like a real labour of love to have them all back for this one. It makes me think of the ensemble for the Lord of the Rings movies and how much they seem to enjoy each others' company.

Though I wouldn't be against a new cast for a future adaptation (animated or live action series or whatever) since they're getting older.

We just need an animated series, at least that can live on forever. Lets face it Batman is over sense Kevin passed away and Mark isn't the Joker anymore, we need something new.

They can't do shit with it now. They had an opportunity to reignite the franchise and introduce a whole new audience to it and its companion media but instead they shot themselves in the foot with the need to do something new. BLOM literally said that adapting the comics to animation would "feel like creative death," because he's a self-important twat.

Maybe he just prefers to be poor.

Extremely good for what it was.
I have some issues with the flanderization of the whole storyline and characters (notably Kim, Knives, Scott and Envy), but I don't mind it too much since they did it to everyone, and it worked out in Ramona's favor which made me really happy.
The new takes on the exes was hit-or-miss for me. Roxie was a thousand times better, but Todd (and Envy) was probably the worst part of the reimagined setting since they just felt like walking gags.

I also thought it had the best ending out of all versions of Scott Pilgrim. I love how optimistic it is, and I like how it feels like Scott's and Ramona's love is stronger than ever. It was dumbed down in that aspect, compared to the realer more bittersweet feeling of the end of the comics, but I'm a sucker for true love so it was nice. Knives joining Sex Bob-Omb and the band not splitting up was also fantastic. The Plumtree starting to play at the very end almost made me tear up a bit.

    Not even an "anime".

It sucked even without the bait and switch. Flanderization isn't a strong enough word, everyone acts like a half-remembered caricature and shit just happens with no rhyme or reason or motivation.
I can't even enjoy it for the animation because despite the style being extremely good the actual animation work is cheap as frick and in service to boring pointless fights with no emotional weight or momentum from the plot.

It's self-indulgent to the extreme in the worst way, like someone wrote everyone's half-assed brainstorming ideas on a whiteboard from the first day of writing and just went "great, do all of that, seeya." They were in desperate need of a moderating influence (Does no one fricking hire editors to wrangle the morons anymore? Is that job just dead?) and they clearly didn't have one.

Yeah it was really dumb and kinda boring and the animation was cheap so they could afford stunt casting for the worst available dub, but it subverted my expectations and that's all that matters, right?

Most of the story Ramona goes on an investigation to find Scott. The Exes after finding out that this was all a setup by Gideon they moved on, only Roxy attacked Ramona not bc of Scott but because of what she did to her.

      >Would rather watch a show about Young Neil
But he's the real hero of the show. He wrote the future memoir of Scott's life that Future Ramona adapted into a screenplay that she credited to Young Neil which let Worst Girl turn herself into Best Girl.

Honestly, I wouldn't have minded a retelling but involving all the exes sort of forced the story to have to be a Who Done It? when it could have been a more thought out story.

It's not a whodunnit, those have clues and coherent characters and motivations that build to a logical conclusion

I enjoyed it. Most fans were expecting it to be a direct adaptation of the comic. Granted the bait and switch was uncalled for but it gave most of Ramona's exes more plot development.
Also the first episode foreshadowed how the story would go. I just never noticed it the first time.

it's not a functional story on its own. the characters do not have arcs and the narrative is a bunch of loosely strung together memberberries and bad comedy. the only character with an arc is Scott which is almost an indictment of the premise of the show. it looks good. most of the actors are trying their best. it sounds good. but there isn't a story to tell here and it doesn't have anything interesting to say about the characters or even anything interesting to say about the original story given the remix premise. its just a dump of "content", evil ex and ramona "content", but its not a story.

can you actually believe they beat bread makes you fat into the ground? why? hack writing

In the old days there used to be this thing called an "editor." Fascinating job, really. They'd listen to all the crazy brainstorming from the writers and then they'd make decisions on what to include and what not to include in the interests of narrative and tonal cohesion. They'd even check the scripts for continuity errors and repetition.

Unfortunately paying people to do that costs money, so all the big content producers just kind of stopped hiring them.
