Not his magnum opus, but I don't get the hate the film gets. It is definitely not perfect by any means, but I don't see why or how it was one of the factors to kill theatrical 2d animation.
Reading the back story it was a pretty fricked up production. Bluth was basically handed a bomb and told to do something with it.
Frankly I like AE better than most of his films because someone else did the plot, and Don's idea of stories don't really appeal to me. For that same reason NIMH is easily his best film. But usually when one talks about a magnum opus it refers to the creator's own vision, so that's probably the Land Before Time.
This take is good.
Ultimate his only "normal" movie killed his career both because of a not so solid overall product and because of the messed up conditions he had to work under.
It's because after hey finished the movie Fox basically lost interest in kids programming so it was thrown out there with no money put into promotion. Same reason they sold Fox Kids the next year.
But no, NIMH is his most independent work. Bluth is no Bakshi, he is okay with story compromising, A lot of times he compromised too much. With NIMH he was left to do what he felt was right for his movie, and it came out almost perfect. Not for everyone (muh magic in my serious science fiction), but it is true to his vision.
>What's the best order to watch the Bluth Filmography?
I would watch chronologically.
You can see his rise and fall (first as an artist and then financially)
NIMH always seemed like the least compromised of his films.
Cuckoldry
Dragon's Lair, and only because it's a vidya. His stories suck.
Titan AE

This, every time someone criticizes Titan we should send him to Wikipedia.

My comfort food to this day. Bluray when.

Wrong. It's either NIHM, Land Before Time or All Dogs Go to Heaven.
Rock A Doodle
The Land before time.
NIMH.
All Dogs
NIMH is his only movie that doesn't feel overanimated and infantile.
he worked on this movie while the israelitel were bastardizing it, but nothing will ever top richard williams fluid revolutionary animation.
When will someone storm MIRAMAX or something so at least we have a decent version of the absolutely cucked cut that circulates online???
we gotta expose disney first
NIMH obviously
NIMH
Anastasia
Titan AE
The Land Before Time
NIHM
Anastasia
In that order.
NIMH
All Dogs
Anastasia
Land Before Time
I thought this was John Waters and I was confused why we'd have a thread about him on Cinemaphile
For a second I thought it was old John Cleese
I've only see the All Dogs Christmas movie and maybe one other. What's the best order to watch the Bluth Filmography?

Secret of NIMH because it had the most rape in it
Never change Cinemaphile, never change.
His original quadrilogy in the 80's, along with Dragon's Lair and Space Ace will always define his legacy
