Because they didn't have a concept of flying vehicles they would think it was God. So most likely the movie is "what if it was a satanic cloud?". Looks like the whole movie might take place at a ranch in the wilderness/secluded area which is usually where people would have "visions" of "angels".

There are several places in L.A. with mixed demographics that never saw property value drops. In the end it created a forced black ghetto for segregation and robbed white families of affordable housing.
Same shit is happening now but it's foreign Chinese realtors forcing people from Los Angeles and forcing them into other states as Chinese companies buy property for cheap.
