Their videos are rarely ever overnight viral hits, they're the cult following videos of youtube where people just rewatch their videos over and over so it does hit over a million views. Half in the bags and re:views too always just hang out around a handful of hundred thousand views.

I don't see the appeal. I guess it's one of the channels that got huge because at the time there was no competition, but for someone who watches it with fresh eyes, there's nothing special about those guys.

RLM has kinda pigeonholed themselves over the years by picking only shlock & blockbusters, but their unique appeal is their unique meme formats (plinketto, best of the worst, black spine, nerdcrew satire, quizz games etc) and how they work as "friend sim" (ie a filmed podcast with slapstick and sharp editing); all things combined with more quirks
I rarely watch movies or tv, so I watch RLM and instinctively understand that their opinions are moronic. Almost everything they do and say is wrapped in bad irony as a defense mechanism. They're so spooked they don't have the courage to use their huge resources to try and make something of any quality. I liken it to watching that fat guy eat himself to death. It's hard to turn away from such slothful cowardice. Seeing them rewarded for sucking is so appropriate in this world of lies. I have no respect for them but the paradox is that I can't help but respect their shamelessness.
That's literally how the channel has always been. Their viewcount grows relatively slowly but even older videos continue to get views because many find them to be really rewatchable.
I haven't watched them is some time but I think the mix of a taste of Hollywood and having to come out to bat for the sequel trilogy broke them spiritually and they haven't felt genuine since
