All the 60s/70s ones are great except for Thunderball, the Lazenby one, and I guess Moonraker.

For Your Eyes Only should be the consensus choice for the Bond to watch if you've never seen a Bond movie before. It's a standard Bond plot, it has no major flaws, the early 80s big budget production values are the perfect mix of impressive and silly.
I think the Connery Bond movies are all good, even Diamonds Are Forever, but I don't think I love any particular one. Starting from the beginning is a good enough choice, but FYEO seems like an especially good introduction.
For Your Eyes Only is one of the most boring, meandering films I've ever watched, and all of its decent set pieces were done better in previous Bond films. It's simultaneously too stupid and not stupid enough in all the wrong places.
I really don't understand the hate. It's a pretty typical Bond adventure and has a great setting. The ski chase where a guy falls into a snow blower and gets shredded is probably one of the goriest moments in the whole franchise.
Horrible acting, it just SCREAMS 1969 very dated, Bond falling in love? lame, I dont like Tracy's character at all, the story isn't that interesting. The skiing is the only good part of the movie.
Only contrarians like the movie or people claim to like it to seem like a "real fan"

It's one of the more interesting Bond films imo. A lot of the movies really drag (especially in the Roger Moore years) but that one has an Austin Powers-esque plot with Blofeld trying to brainwash super models to be assassins and you've got the skiing actions scenes and the assault on Blofeld's base at the end. I used to hate Lazenby as Bond but he grew on me last time I rewatched. I like the Tracy subplot, it was a nice little twist on the formula. I think only Lazenby really could have pulled it off.
It's a very common opinion like saying From Russia with Love or Goldfinger. GoldenEye is the answer of very casual Bond fans.

Wrong. Its legitimately one of the best in the franchise.

Agreed. Try asking anybody about other Bond films who gives this as an answer IRL and you'll get nothing but blank stares. I do love Goldeneye but it was babby's first and last Bond film for most millennials and it's propped up by nostalgia for the game more than the movie itself. Top 10, sure, but it's nowhere near the best.

For the record kid, I love the game. But tonally the movie, as with all the brosnan films, is a mess. It's rudderless. Yeah we can all be thankful they weren't flat our subversive like the gay tinged Craig movies, with the leading man Craig being a flamer himself, but they still are inconsistent tone-deaf nonsense

If I had to give a top five bond list it would be
OHMSS, YOLT, TSWLM, TMWTGG, and TLD. I like Moore best, by a pretty large margin and can watch all of his films anytime

I agree with you on Thunderball. As someone who loves the underwater fight scene, I just don't get the praise otherwise, I find the rest of the film very boring. I don't mind moonraker but it certainly isn't a favorite. OHMSS is fantastic. I like FYEO, but agree with your critique of it reusing a lot of things we've seen in other bond movies, OHMSS to name one that it borrows from heavily
It's a really solid movie, but I think it gets overlooked because it's so quintessentially Bond. Most of the movies post Connery have something distinctive about them that makes them stand out, good or bad, but FYEO is kind of the pure Bond movie.
Wonderful choice, Moore is my favorite Bond and that movie is nearly perfect. I think I enjoy Spy Who Loved Me more because it has a proper good guys in one color raid the base of enemies wearing a different color scene. My all time favorite is YOLT, and what mentioned prior is a large reason for that

For Your Eyes Only was definitely the biggest re-discovery. It's high on my list it pretty much has everything including terrific soundtrack and outstanding locations.
I think a better choice for formulaic Bond film to test the waters is Tomorrow Never Dies. It's not the best at any particular aspect, but it covers all the bases really well which makes it one of the ones I like to go back to a lot. Also that Sheryl Crow song took awhile to grow on me but now I think it's one of the most underrated themes in the series.
I think it's my second favorite Moore as well behind Live and Let Die. It has great music (LALD also has great score by a one-time Bond composer), locations, action and stunts in every environment. I even like Bond visiting Tracy's grave and that miniature submarine that Broccoli saw in a magazine and asked the guy who made it if he wanted to be in the movie. This is what modern Bond movies lack.
Bond wasn't even Bond in that movie. He literally turned down sex with the young woman in that picture because he thought he was too old for her. What the frick?
That's a good one. I'd go with Goldfinger personally. I know it's widely considered the best but that's because it is. Dr. No is also a personal favourite.
If it's not from the 60s, 70s of 80s it's can't be the best Bond film. It's too far past its peak and GoldenEye, although the best modern Bond, also has some of that horrible pervy writing of Purvis and Wade.
>Best modern Bond
Who fricking cares? Goldeneye isn't awful, it's a solid 6, it's better than Craig's shit, but none of it is good. Why even bother separating them, just rank them all outright and don't defend for a second zombie Bond
Peak Bond is the 60s, 70s and 80s have some great ones as well. Brosnan and Craig eras is Bond in decline trying to reinvent itself over and over and shitty writting by Purvis and Wade.
>For Your Eyes Only
mid-tier bond at best, nothing villain, plot is generally boring. roger moore isn't a full parody of himself as bond yet but this movie kind of starts the ball rolling on that.
Goldeneye is unique to me and I might suspect others growing up in that era due to how the esthetic sensibilities intertwined with the game: the soundtrack and level design corresponding to the esthetic of the film, the strangely coherent feeling of being bond in the game - due to owns own competence to the guards - all these aspects give fondness to the film. The film itself isn’t on par with From Russia With love though. Nothing beats Kerim Bey-kino.

homie what? The Living Daylights wasn't even the best song in The Living Daylights. The Pretenders had easily the best credits song in the series (not including We Have All the Time in the World since that taken from another movie) and should have been allowed to do the main theme as well.
I like the Roger Moore movies. Octopussy, For Your Eyes Only and Live and Let Die are pure kino. I also like Brosnan, all four of his films are great. Not a fan of James Blonde but Skyfall is watchable.
Skyfall kind of works as your standard summer blockbuster with the James bond name slapped on to it, if it wasn't so over the top reverential to Judo Dench's absolutely terrible Q I'd probably tolerate it, but for this reason it remains total shit like all Craig Bourne films
PROS > Electra is the 2nd best seductress of the series... possibly the best. > Solid male villain in Renard. > Fantastic pre opening credits sequence & boat chase. > Good ski chase. > More use of the fun Russian gangster. > Brosnan being awesome as usual. > Good sub plot & use of M. > Great score. > One of my top favorite opening songs of the franchise. > Richards looks damn good. > Torture chair was a fantastic sequence.
CONS > Richards is a weak actress, I personally think she is not as horrid as people say, but she is poor especially when she is meant to be playing a nuclear scientist.
the best is From Russia With Love. Anything after that is weird British capeshit

Ohmss would be one of the absolute greatest films of the series if it had been Connery.
I love how the old ones are such a meandering path to the finale. It almost feels like you watched 2 or 3 different movies in one.
Goldeneye but the best girl will always be Elelktra
That's not The Living Daylights
Famke is best Bondgirl. But I might agree with this anon
both good choices. 80s bonds were the best bonds
Thats not even Dalton's best movie
I like For Your Eyes Only, personally. But I think I am the only person on the planet who likes this movie.

its probably Moore's 2nd best. Great movie. A little dark which I like.

Trips and checked but no anon people love this movie. Had a massive crush on the girl you posted as a young lad
Bond wasn't even Bond in that movie. He literally turned down sex with the young woman in that picture because he thought he was too old for her. What the frick?
James, is it really necessary to drive quite so fast?
- More often than you'd think.
That's a good one. I'd go with Goldfinger personally. I know it's widely considered the best but that's because it is. Dr. No is also a personal favourite.
The Spy Who Loved Me
Die Another Day
roger moore is the favorite of tory twits, connery and dalton are the actual kings of bond
I'm American homosexual, I didn't understand a word of what you said, and Moore is the best Bond.
James Sneed in Sneedeneye 00Sneeden

The living daylights >Goldeneye>Casino Royale >License to kill>>>Rest
Holy cringe. And I say that as someone who puts Living Daylights towards the top
Whats your top list?
Which one do you feel is in the wrong place, or all of them?
Casino royale is shit, all Craig films are, Goldeneye is bottom ten, only worse than that are the other Brosnan film and Craig's "films", maybe diamonds but I don't really dislike diamonds just wish they gave it more time and effort, some of the effects are terrible. OHMSS, YOLT, TSWLM, TMWTGG, and TLD. I like Moore best, by a pretty large margin and can watch all of his films anytime
my favorite gun barrel
I really enjoyed Never Say Never Again even if its canonicity is dubious.
NSNA is such an odd movie but that's part of it's charm for me. Like the out of place jazz and experimental music.
As much as Goldeneye is iconic and well made it just isn't my favourite. I really would have liked to see Dalton in it.
i like the one with the voodoo shit and some snakes.
Easy choice for me senpai

Not bad but I'd switch out Elektra for Onatopp and AVTAK's theme for TLD's.
Very respectable, those would be my substitutions as well if I were forced to make some

Dr No, The Living Daylights, and Casino Royale (2006) are the top 3.
Goldeneye isn't even that best Architect one. That would be TWINE.
