What's the best Marvel continuity to get into for a newcomer?
Any medium is fine honestly.
As for the answer OP idk what you mean by marvel continuity. Marvel comics has only one continuity (more or less at least) so you can start anywhere. The advice I always give is choose a character you already find it cool and are aware through cultural osmosis and follow him through the years. As for when to start with said character it depends on what you chose, that's a whole another discussion.
In the vein of alternative mediums it's again on you to choose. I'd particularly recommend the Earth's Mightiest Heroes because I really really love that show and it's a pretty honest to the source (and fun) condensation of those main characters.
>What's the best Marvel continuity to get into for a newcomer?
>yes
Ironically a good answer. Just ignore the rest of the post. There's a continuity for everyone and the true enjoyers can appreciate many of them. Just pick one that interests you and dive in.
Go to readcomicsonline or some shit and just start with whatever character you like from beginning. Amazing Spider-Man stan lee and ditko into romita stuff still great today. Keep going until you get into the Roger Stern era. Marvel doesnt start going to shit until post-clone saga/post-90s era stuff, so anythign before that is pretty safe to get into.
My unconventional suggestion is eXiles, up until Claremont took it over and made everyone cry on every page. It touches on a lot of Marvel's greatest hits from a different angle, and you don't need to know wtf they were about to enjoy the story on its own. When that stuff is referenced later on in the proper continuity, you'll at least have an idea of what they're talking about, even if you remember it a little different. Plus it's a fun read, generally light but actions have consequences, which are ironically more permanent than the mainline continuity.
616. The real marvel universe. Start with the start and just go. Comics are fun and you have a lot to look forward to. Don't try to rush it, don't think there's anything else to get.
As a total newcomer? Unironically the MCU, because it's more condensed, has a straight timeline, and has a relatively minimal amount of abject moronation in its writing.
Then you can figure out for yourself what aspects you liked from that, and pick a comics continuity that evokes those aspects.
I'd probably say the 90s cartoons if only because they keep things incredibly traditional while streamlining you into Marvel traditions and staples.
This guy has a good mentality, but the MCU is too subversive in my opinion, and doesn't touch marvel staples yet. MCU Spidey being your first Spiderman, and jumping into a continuity without F4 or X-Men is honestly absurd
Just read the real comics. Why do so many people these days claim they want to get into something but then want to either speed run it or not have to actually read the thing they say they want to read. This was never a problem for us. This was never a problem for anyone. >But there's so much more now
Frick you. Finding out there was a mountain of shit to read and get into used to feel like finding a treasure trove. Quit acting like you're in a hurry to fit in and just read the comics.
>Finding out there was a mountain of shit to read
That's a good expression since most of it is shit)especially when it comes to cape comics), and it's worth asking for the few good gems. > get into used to feel like finding a treasure trove.
Maybe when you were a child. There were plenty of endless ya fantasy stories that I liked as child but I would not touch them today since my standards have risen.
Why? Please explain what's wrong with actually recommending the good stuff? 90% of everything is shit. Imagine if you were to ask someone for a book recc and he told you to just grab the first one that has a cool title or something like that. That's an awful 0 effort recc.
The movies are poor recreations of classic comics. The cartoons are simplified versions of classic comics. The modern comics are brainless regurgitation of classic comics.
Read classic comics.
>where do I start?!?!?!?
1. Go to Amazon
2. Type "epic collection volume 1"
3. Add the hero/team name that you're interested in.
4. Buy it.
It's about $50 for 500 pages of material. You can save $15 or so if you go to instocktrades or cheapgraphicnovels.
Recommending someone start with Marvel in 2004 is like telling someone to start watching the Simpsons in season 25. Yeah, I guess it's better than season 32 but it's still so far past the expiration date that you're already knee deep in rot.
I'd say yes. As a kid I loved reading Marvel comics while DC stuff always confused me.
What the frick are you taking about you dumbass?

Play Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 for a good overview of basics and an intro to some of the more obscure corners of the verse
do this, OP. that game was my introduction to marvel as a kid. it’s one of my all-time favorites.
X-men '91
Avengers EMH

I recommend silver age
MCU up until Endgame. Avoid capeshit comixs like the plague.
>best Marvel continuity
None. They are shit. Spend your time reading something worth while.

2004 - 2011 then stop reading.
maybe try 2012-2015 BUT under no circunstances read anything post 2015.
How odd...

My Marvel continuity is the few Marvel comics I like, though I separate Ennis MAX as it's own thing.
it is different universe from the main 616
I know.
What a Marvelous Thread we got here.
