the bit where he has hydrazine on his suit is pretty actiony
The Man from Earth, the sequel (Holocene) is trash. Vanilla Sky (Cruisekino remake). I don't remember if Gattaca has action scenes.
man from earth has the gun scene, almost action imo
Twelve Monkeys is pretty much zero action. Unless you want to define "action" as "person DOES a thing", but there aren't any traditional "fight" scenes as such.
Now that I think of it, Brazil is virtually zero "action" too.
twelve monkeys final sequence is nearly pure action
brazil has plenty of action, like his arrest, or following the woman in the truck
Primer
Arrival
Moon
arrival has the explosion scene, the stand off with the phone
define action scene.
gravity comes to mind but im not sure what counts as action.
gravity opens with an action sequence and is interspersed with similar scenes til the end
After nitpicking everyone else, here's one from me to you guys: Another Earth. My recollection is that there is no action in the entire movie.
Runner up: Passengers doesn't have much of any action until the end where he spacewalks
I could have sworn there was a scuffle in stalker or at least some strong words thrown around that brought it to the brink of a fistfight. Been eight years since I've seen it though.
>action is any time anyone does a thing or a thing happens
No. >An action scene depicts characters engaged in a high stakes physical challenge in order to achieve a goal. The challenge is competitive, urgent, and fast moving.
>An action scene depicts characters engaged in a high stakes physical challenge in order to achieve a goal. The challenge is competitive, urgent, and fast moving.
like the scene in Moon
That definition is bullshit. Moon has no action because Moon has no stunt work. If you have nothing for a stuntman to conceivably do, you have no action.
that's an even worse definition
a shootout wouldn't require a stunt man

You're literally using stunt guns. The action has just been shifted to a device, but ti's still action requiring a person. Same for stunt cars / stunt drivers.

i'm not sure i follow anymore, are you saying that an action scene requires to have actual danger involved that needs to be faked in some way or another?

I'm not putting forward a hard and fast definition, just more of a rubric I guess. If it wouldn't typically involve a stunt person or stunt props or devices than it's not an action scene. It doesn't mean that it MUST have a stunt person, but just that it's a scenario where stunt work applies. So, fight scenes are action scenes but fight scenes also don't necessarily involve stunt men (but sometimes do)
A powerful moment in the film.. ruined by hilarious SNL tier fight choreography. And Amleths stupidity and suddenly inability to fight results in him just getting captured. Stupid movie. God it was so awful
there is a little action in this but by god if it isn't a terrifying fricking film the credits music starting off vibrant and quick, but slowly tapering off more and more until there are entire seconds between notes was so fricking good
Contact is a weird one because while it does not have action scenes, per se, it has some pretty dramatic shots, like that space spinner thing coming apart on live tv.

9/10 is theory and setup
Action scenes so far are like barely an hour across 3 seasons and only in the finales
A lot of Tales from the Loop is actionless and typically action does not achieve goals in this series so its a good example of removing laser guns and martial arts from sci-fi kino.
almost got it huh
EVROPA Report
the ending is kind of action

stalker is not science fiction
it's just using some of the names from a gay science fiction book
Her

It's been a while, but I think the most riveting action scene MOON had was a tabletennis match
wrong, there's the excavator accident and the ending that count as action

The Man from Earth, the sequel (Holocene) is trash. Vanilla Sky (Cruisekino remake). I don't remember if Gattaca has action scenes.
Vanilla Sky has action scenes. There's a car crash, the roof jump, probably some others.
Technically disqualified but GATTACA is one of my top 5 movies of all time
It’s in my top 3; a fantastic movie/picture
Does Ex machina have any?
Anyhow it's up there.
yeah, the whole end is pretty action-y
primer i guess

>he missed the multiple action scenes.
I also enjoyed spiderhead, not without its flaws but Hemsworth’s acting shines and the premise is interesting enough
Northman has loads of action scenes.
Contact
Gary Busey's son wrecking the gyrotron and pieces flying everywhere was pure action.
Contact is a weird one because while it does not have action scenes, per se, it has some pretty dramatic shots, like that space spinner thing coming apart on live tv.

I define "action" as anything that might typically involve a stuntman.
alphaville
Sorry mate, but the scene with the swimming pool has people awkwardly getting shot. That's way too much MIND-BENDING, ARMREST-GRIPPING ACTION for OP.

The movie literally starts with action.

not OP but anything you could plausibly attach to word "stunt" to.
