It's bloated to the point of being not good.
the story is fundamentally flawed but it has several cinematically impressive sequences.
the ending scenes are extremely damaging as the movie tries to make some kind of literary point but just makes the filmmakers look like out-of-touch asshats.

In hindsight they should have split into quarters and made it a miniseries.
it would have needed substantial rewrites. as is, its not clear enough why the bad guys are bad and why the central conflict is happening.
It's not about runtime, there's plenty of 3h+ classic epics that flow excellently, and Heaven's Gate simply drags. The film is too ambitious for Cimino's skill (wasn't it only his third film? or fourth?) and he should've been bullied into rejecting his megalomania.

There will be no more excuses if Deadpool 3 flops. Superhero films won't vanish (musicals and westerns are still around after their heydays) but that's THE Bellwether. If a Ryan Reynolds superhero crossover movie can't get people to theaters the industry will start to pivot. It is the last sure thing according to modern Hollywood logic.
