It lost money.
so?
Meaning, on its cinematic release people didn't buy what they were selling.
Because its budget was literally DOUBLED because the reshoots basically rebuilt the movie from the ground up, and then it released at the peak of the Last Jedi seething.
That is not indicative of the movie's quality.
Paul Bettany sucked
It had some cringe moments and a israelite nepo hire that couldn't fill Harrison Ford's shoes at all but otherwise it was fine compared to most of the other nu-Wars slop.
i hate that they made lando black
i hate that they turned him from a smooth chad into a broken buck
Every homie born after 1980 is broken, brother.
it's full of nonsensical bullshit and propaganda. it's garbage.
how bad tho
really bad. Robots in universe may have personality, but they don't have an identity. Or is it character? Either way, robots are supposed to be dumb AI that don't really think for themselves about themselves. They're always in services of humans. Having a feminist rebelling robot was really stupid
Edited to within an inch of it's life. Goofy that we see every single thing about Han Solo get established over like a week. Only alludes to several other character stories that seem way more interesting, though of course I would never trust those writers to actually do them.
>Goofy that we see every single thing about Han Solo get established over like a week
Why do people that say this have no problem with Indiana Jones getting all of his shit in one hour?
It was also silly for Indy to get the hat, whip and fear of snakes in the same sequence, but that movie came out like 40 years ago.
Disgusting boomer
>people that say this have no problem
Yes we do.
That was silly also. But on that case the rest of the film was amazing. Solo is just so forgettable that people are confusing it for being a good movie.
>"it's actually better than Rogue One!"
Eat shit
>LOOK! IT'S "HAN SOLO'S ICONIC DICE"™!
>never even noticed that he had dice in the Falcon's wienerpit in the first place
>Goofy that we see every single thing about Han Solo get established over like a week.
This is it for me. It should have been devoid of any larger world reference aside from maybe Lando or Chewie. Of course Disney had to marvel frick it and make it require 30 crossovers and project kickoffs (Maul) rather than tell a good compelling insular story.
Turning Lando into a robosexual homosexual was bad.
Rest is just whatever. Nothing great, nothing offensively bad, which automatically elevates it beyond the ST.
Goddamn that nog looks like such a homosexual
Did Billy Dee look like a homosexual to audiences back in the day too?
Yes he did.
How delusional do you have to he to think it's the best Star Wars since the original trilogy? Rogue One is easily the best new Star Wars
ATST
ATST
ATST
ATST
>Rogue One
It only gets good once they get to Scarif. Rest is a nonsensical snoozefest.
You mean Andor
Poo shill.
Dong Lover ruins every scene he is in.
>white guy lead
it was eh. maul and emilia was cool though. shame we couldn't see more black sun shenanigans
ugly as shit movie. homosexual robot Black person troony plotline shoved in for no reason. ugly red head Black person troony plotline shoved in for no reason.
Dull with much more interesting shit being established all around. The war scenes on Mimban were great and I would have much rather seen a film about randoms involved in that battle than learn why the Millennium Falcon has dice.
They really could have made a bunch of in universe movies that only had lore subtle implications.
It was good until the shitty third act where they meet in some gay tower. It's the only enjoyable Disney star wars movie
I thought it was kino all around. I was 17 in the theater with 3 of my friends who I had a Star Wars TTRPG campaign with and it was a Friday night. It’s moronic but when Darth maul came onscreen we were shouting and screaming it got so crazy in there. I miss that life, almost 6 years ago now
>when Darth maul came onscreen we were shouting and screaming
Why? You were -2 years old when Darth Maul died
Crime lord darth maul is from the clone wars CGI show.
remember how towards the end when the big bad guy that has been harassing them takes off the mask and it's revealed to be a woman? And the way it's executed it's set up to be some huge reveal like we're supposed to gasp and go "OMG IT'S A WOMAN!??!?!?" but in reality it falls flat and we're just left sitting there thinking, "ok...and?"... Yeah, man that movie was really bad.
You are actually supposed to be surprised and intrigued she is so young. The were also clearly very proud they found an ugly-cute racially ambiguous girl to play their potential new Boba Fett type spin off character.
i thought it was alright. like all nu-star wars movies it suffers from lack of planning, which only rogue one managed to turn around due to Tony Gilroy stepping in
Best nu-star wars movie, everything afterwards was shit. It should've been a show with 6 episodes to give Hans old crew more depth
It was alright
If we got the Lord and Miller version or if Ron Howard had been on board since pre-production instead of being rushed in at the last minute because Kathleen Kennedy and Kasdan were seething morons it'd probably have been the best Star Wars since Return of the Jedi
>Lord and Miller version
It would have been Ant Man Tier MCU quipslop
Lord and Miller movies are funnier than the Ant-Man trilogy. I know it’s “cool” to hate them now but all of their movies are good
>hire funny filmmakers to make a fun han solo movie
>panic when the movie turns out to be FUN
>fire them and get ron howard to re-do it
disney are morons
>it'd probably have been the best Star Wars since Return of the Jedi
Disney can never make anything better than Revenge of the Sith and they've yet to make anything better than The Phantom Menace.
Solo was so awful. A complete failure of an origin story. In the opening scene Han is escaping from a Jabba like creature and showing off his expert pilot skills and being smarmy and wienersure. That's not how origin stories work! Imagine if the first scene in Batman Begins was Bruce Wayne paragliding away from a killer clown and explaining why he doesn't use guns. That's how incompetent Solo was.
It's got some dumb bullshit moments throughout:
>the naming scene
>implying Lando fricks his robit
>the bizarre and random Darth Maul cameo that was never followed up on
>Han getting everything that makes him Han Solo within the course of a single film
BUT all those (aside from the last point) are just small moments in the grand scheme of the film. Considering Disney's massive general competency failure when it comes to Star Wars, along with the tortured production, lengthy reshoots, and dumb bullshit moments listed above for this film specifically, it's actually somewhat impressive that Solo manages to actually be good.
I wouldn't call it one of the great SW films, but it is purely entertaining on a level that none of the other Disney Wars films really reached. It's not some soulless pseudoremake, it's not out to subvert expectations, and it's not a panicked, embarrassing scramble of a movie. It's just a straightforward space adventure movie with the trappings of the OT. I'd go as far as to say it's even somewhat underrated, at least considering how badly it bombed when it released right after TLJ and the fact that everyone's forgotten it exists. A Han Solo prequel movie could have definitely been done better but, for what it is and contrasting it against the rest of Disney Wars, it's surprisingly decent.
?feature=shared
If you’ve got to put that many caveats before saying it’s a decent movie, it’s most assuredly complete shit.
Like I said, the four points at the start are ultimately smaller negatives. They drag the film down, but they're not major fricking flaws. If it was completely shit, I'd say it was completely shit
If anyone needs a reminder of how Disney continues its fall into abyss with Star Wars, look at these people going "ehh, Solo wasn't THAT bad."
In few years it'll be "ehhh, Ahsoka wasn't THAT bad."
This isn't some retrospective thing, I thought Solo was decent on release as well.
I've no interest in Filoni's dull fanfiction though, but sadly, you're probably right that even something as soulless as Ahsoka will eventually be looked at fondly. I'm pretty sure most Filonigay redditors already think it's heckin amazeballs or whatever
Better than all 3 sequels but not as good as Rogue One
Boy I never saw anything SW related since the last Jedi. Even if the Last Jedi hadn't killed SW for me what was the point of an Han Solo movie after you killed him? It's almost the same as how people asked for a Black Widow movie, they kill her and decide to make a movie after she's dead and are surprised that no one cares.
The fact that I kept hearing shit about the feminist robot and how Lando was fricking robots was another warning for me to stay clear from it and avoid tainting my childhood even further.
amerimutt goyslop
Mid movie seen as worse than it actually is
It was the first SW product released after TLJ, so of course it fricking tanked
It's not bad. It's not great. It's serviceable.
The only objectively bad scene is Maul randomly appearing at the end.
better than Rogue One's "TOTALLY NOT 2004 IRAQ" Jedha.
hmm, the bit after the space octopus where they have to zip between two planetoids that just happened to be about to collide was pulled straight from the hack writers ass crack
>was not set up to succeed.
It was set up fine, it's just that the fanbase at the time loudly proclaimed they didn't want or need a Han Solo movie and Disney just pushed it out anyway. This was when Disney tried to turn Star Wars into the MCU and failed.
>disney star wars is so mind boggling terrible that its defenders have to drag out wildly panned trash because it has a male lead in it.
no matter how trash disney star wars gets this movie will still be bad
I thought it was ok until the finale. Finale was garbage.
WTF? There's an entire Star Wars movie I've never even heard of?
I recently watched Solo, and I feel that if they kept the direction they were going up to the first heist (the train one, where the 'marauders' show up.) throughout the movie, then it would've been a good film. Crime syndicates? Droid rebellions? Resistance movements? Made it all very gay, and very lame. Ugh, now I'm just peeved. I really was enjoying the movie up until that stupid mutt attacked the train & changed the whole course of the film.
>I'm Solo, Han Solo
The SW Kinect was super silly, but Emps and Darth go so hard.
This was the peak of SW content. Right when it was in the twilight period of being soft-nerd shit to normie core. The Robot Chicken & Family Guy parody episodes came out, no one was taking any of this too seriously, and there wasn't a wash of homosexualry across everything. We didn't know how good we had it. I remember being a super hater thinking this was goofy, and I was too mature for all of this. Granted, it's a fricking media franchise so none of this is important, but everything really did get pretty shit, pretty hard.
The tragedy of it all is that George was gearing up for a new Star Wars push before he was persuaded to get funding from disney, which resulted in the sale.
Sure, the movies probably would have been shit, but there was also going to be a push for all the secondary material too, which would undoubtedly have had a few gems in.
George missed the golden opportunity for proper sequels in thr 90's using the OG actors and jurassic park level effects. He was just too obsessed with the fall of Anakin and how a kid could become Darth Vader.
Which was totally awesome.
I thought it was going great right up until the end when the legit-well-crafted bad guy turned out to be that moronic black(?) chick with freckles and now shes the good guy and everybody has to work togetherrrrr!!!!
It really felt like they had an entirely different sotry ending and someone came in and was like nope, we gotta have a lame chick help win in the end. I know ron howard had to finish the film but that ending was like nails on a chualk board compared to how the movie was going up until then.
So an 8/10 until the 75% mark then 6/10 at best.
Whole point of the movie was the tragic romance. You legit did not see it coming?
I want to see the original "comedy" cut one day.
talking about star wars makes me feel like one of those low rent food 'critics' that buys a burger and talks about while sat in their car.
technical feats aside, star wars is junk tier, always has been
I agree it is aging well with the more Star Wars trash that gets released, but it's still just pretty good. Some funny stuff, way too much annoying fanservice, and in my opinion the unforgivable "OH SHIIIII-" moment inserted into a Star Wars scene.
But I really like the (probably unintentional) retcon where "pretending to be angry and then hugging" has happened between Han and Lando before, so you could now say this scene in ESB is Lando trying to warn Han that he's walking into a trap.
>so you could now say this scene in ESB is Lando trying to warn Han that he's walking into a trap.
No I can't, no I shan't, no I won't.
Well then it just makes Han dumber.
>"Hey Lando is doing the exact thing I did when I picked his pocket and "won" the Falcon".
Also the movie probably should have ended with him sitting down to play cards instead of winning the Falcon and saying "hey Chewie have you ever heard of Jabba the Hutt a Star Wars Story"?
Black folk don’t belong in Star Wars
A decent film that underperformed because it came out after The Last Jedi.
Thank you, Zoometrius. I knew I could count on you having a good opinion.
Name?
-Han
-Your people?
-Dont have none
-THEN YOURE HAN SOLO!!!
I stood up and left after that
>so I might watch this film to see her
you're not enjoying the movie for it's merits, let's be real. You just want fap bait.
Solo - better than rogue one - mike stoklasa and rich evans
Rogue One is shit
I kinda like the first half or so but the final act is boring and bloated with the crime syndicate stuff they were obviously setting up for other movies/shows and never really materialized. Honestly surprisingly good in hindsight considering where the franchise went after
It was a film that didn't need to be made, not the way it was, anyway.
Han Solo was already a young man in A New Hope, any prequel featuring his character was a waste of time as he had a complete arc in the original trilogy.
I would have made the movie about his father, give the Star Wars universe some ground level universe building, and removed Chewbacca from it entirely. You could have kept most of the story beats otherwise, Solo joins up with a group of criminals but ends up running off with his lady friend and building ships at the shipyard planet by the end.
They could have just adapted the Solo Trilogy of novels where he's both morally conflicted AND a drug mule for the Hutts. Disney trying to sanitize everything is a huge part of how they ruined Star Wars that people don't really talk about, probably because it's rooted in TCW.
I thought it was okay. Thats it, no strong opinion
It was fun. Easily better than Rogue One.
