You just need to trim it sometimes and wash it daily. Beard oils are kinda nasty.

Letterman's at least has a decent shape and pretty good volume. I don't think it suits him super well but it's not as gross as the other two.

I consider most people morons by default but this man, dressed like he was, probably 6'4 with broad shoulders, wearing a long coat, his presence just commanded respect and that's very rare
sagging skin on the cheek, jaw and neck tends to erase the neckline. beard is a neat way to cover it up
Old-age makeup usually looks fake because they can't take stuff away, only add bits on, so they overdo it with the saggy skin.
But it does exist and yeah it doesn't look great. If the choice is between covering it with a beard or not, grow a beard.
