Nothing. He's just an older guy who grew up in a different country. You look at him with that in mind and he's really not much more eccentric than an Ian McKellen or Nathan Lane type.
wasn't the implication in the book that he got beaten when he was arrested by some cops back in his home country?
One of the stories about his past he told Greg was that he was illegal immigrant from Poland that moved to France, where he worked as cheap labour in a restaurant.
He had a relative living in America so he eventually made his way to the swampy southern state (I think it was Louisiana) where he got made fun of for his accent by the locals. A friend told him they should move to California and they decided to take a risk. Somehow, it all worked out, but his friend at the time died.
Sounds a bit like a Forrest Gump situation, where he effectively manages to get into a good position in life thanks to hard work and sheer luck
That actually makes it pretty sad that he gets made fun of all the time, even in a Hollywood movie, when he was so protective of his past
It speaks to how he must be desperate for people in his life that, AFAIK, he's still friends with Greg after he wrote The Disaster Artist
He's just a foreign mid-wit who had ambitions loftier than his ability, the difference between he and the majority of the US population is that he actually had the money (and complete lack of self awareness) to realize them.
>Information within parentheses is usually supplementary; were it removed, the meaning of the sentence would remain unchanged.
Parentheses don't negate, ESL
Who said I used them to negate what was written, moron?
The audacity of you accusing someone else of being an ESL when you don't know how to read into the subtlety of written English.
You implied that Tommy, unlike the rest of society, lacks self-awareness. The other anon called you a moron because the internet has proven that everybody lacks self-awareness.

I thought that he was implying that Wiseau was self aware because the internet told him so

Truly this is a dramatic misunderstanding worthy of The Room itself
I'm sorry (not really though) that I implied that you don't understand parentheses (although you clearly don't), let's agree that you're wrong (you moron) and move on.
Was that written English subtle enough for you? (You ESL)
Yes, the story is that he was basically or actually homeless and met an old man who owned the clothing chain, and they became VERY. GOOD. FRIENDS. and then he left them and all his money to Tommy when he died
assume he's some russian soldier sent to kill rebels in chechnya or wherever and somehow managed to escape and went to America to 'make big Hollywood movies'
Nothing really, he's just a bit simple. Had money to try something he wasn't really all that good at, and he did, which is based. Completely harmless. There's much worse in Hollywood.
A lot of these independent film types seem a bit mentally off. Same with writing. I went to a local Comicon and there was some borderline moronic guy with a self published Ghost Busters fanfic. He copied the plot yet changed the characters' names.
Maybe. Anyone who doesn't have the self awareness to realize their product is shit might have some sort of deficiency. I've seen the winners of very small film festivals from India. They attract Americans trying to say they won an award of some kind. I am in disbelief as to how delusional these people could be in thinking their work is anywhere near good.

I think it's mostly
But he's also slightly eccentric
Having read the book, he probably had a really bad past, which usually makes people act weird later in life
elaborate, what was his past like
He was in a couple of car crashes
his father was a drinker
And a fiend

It appears he got his money from it being left to him by an old man who, it's very delicately implied, used him as a fricktoy
Nah he was flipping homes.

That doesn't explain his behavior as far as the lying and secrecy.
He's just a foreign mid-wit who had ambitions loftier than his ability, the difference between he and the majority of the US population is that he actually had the money (and complete lack of self awareness) to realize them.
>Difference to the vast majority of US population:
>Complete lack of self-awareness
I have an entire internet telling a VEEERY different story.
Notice that I put that part in parentheses
It's possible that parentheses don't mean what you think they do.
...Or do they? (No)
Is this an example of the American education I've heard so much about?
You not understanding something as frick simple as brackets?
It must be.
>Information within parentheses is usually supplementary; were it removed, the meaning of the sentence would remain unchanged.

Learn to write, then read, then come back and try some combination of the two.
>no u

Isn't Tommy supposed to have a designer clothing chain or something?
Yes, the story is that he was basically or actually homeless and met an old man who owned the clothing chain, and they became VERY. GOOD. FRIENDS. and then he left them and all his money to Tommy when he died
So that's where the money comes from eh.......
Polish
>he didn't get the hidden message of the movie
what a pleb
What was the message? Women lie and cheat?
Yes
Arrogance and Dunning-Freddy Krüger effect
But enough about you.

why is he so secretive about being polish?

What about Neil Breen?
A philosopher and auteur.

Eastern european with delusions of grandeur
Happens more than you think
I think he's just an eccentric who wildly overestimates his talents, that's all.
