pan's labyrinth
a really good one: la piel que habito, from almodóvar
Nice taste. I'll check out The Skin I Live In.
that's 'la piel que habito', but in its original name
>la piel que habito
> Meanwhile, Ledgard subjects him to a vaginoplasty and later instructs him how to slowly stretch his new vegana. Over a period of six years, Ledgard physically transforms Vicente into a replica of his late wife
uh, wtf?!
you didnt watch it? it's a really good movie, man
almodóvar is the one from 'pain and glory' and 'hable con ella'
skin i live in is kino
>midsommar
I’m not watching film that is endorsed by roasties.
based, me neither
>pans labyrinth
Movie would've been far more interesting had it been about the dictator, and not the stupid little kid
No it wouldn’t, you have terrible taste
Yea it would.
>interesting war movie
Vs
>moronic child and le whacky characters
The most kino scene was him shooting the farmer
>la piel que habito
Damn, excellent taste. That film is fricking terrifying but really good
It follows is cuckshit garbage.
>it follows
shit
>midsommar
shit
>pan's labyrinth
shit
all of those besides the skin i live in are arguably just straight up horror though, despite having a thematic focus as well as gore
>midsommar
Poor man's Wicker Man.
jump scares are not horror
neither is gore shit

But maybe if I did have a wife’s son I’d be looking to scar the little bastard eh.
One ticket, please.
You forgot cerebral.
Gore is objectively horrifying though.
not really
gore is just disgusting
You are post-contrarian.
>gross = scary
Are you 5?
just watch chinese lathe accident videos or literally any footage from the current war in ukraine if you want to see shocking gore you fricking creep
It's still technically a genre of horror, but there really should be better terminology for the subgenres of horror.
Gore is chilling and unsettling, but that doesn't exactly equate to fear
i find it cool
House is only worth watching for the sexy Japanese teen girls.

scooby doo zombie island
Our society after the overturning of roe v wade........

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
WOAH YOU ARE A PLEB, WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE HORROR MOVIE?
What do you think is a scary horror movie?
>NOOO YOU CAN'T MAKE FUN OF MY BONE CHILLING SLOW BURNING HECKIN SKIN CRAWLING AUTEUR DIRECTED JOINTS!
are they saying real horror has jump scares and anything that doesn't have proper jump scares isn't horror? because that'd be relentlessly based.
what the frick is post-horror?
gut wrenching bone chilling etc.
a24 bone-chilling slow burns for extremely high IQ people
Deep burn burns about the human condition and mental illness... So deep..
Don't forget family drama
>post horror
>post sci-fi
>post western
>post french new wave
Post cereal
>>post western
i was just thinking that must be what something like Power of the Dog is trying to be
Would that include Old Henry? Seemed like a straight western to me
IDK but basically anything that comes out now is a nu-western by default.
Post Malone
>post feet
Movies with horror aesthetics that are actually just run of the mill indie dramas.
Apt description
just horror but by the cool art gay crowd
"Le true horror is society", but told in a roundabout pretentious allegorical way
gay nu-age fake subgenre just like folk horror
when you make a horror thread on 4chins
When the people that brought us new genders start trying to categorize entertainment media
newest buzzword
Shit
The pretense that horror is dead
Imagine a horror movie, but gay.
>you know whats really scary???
>mental illness
summed it all up for you
Post-horror are mediocre horror movies that aren't scary, but you're SUPPOSED to find scary; movies like Midsommar and Get Out, where the premises are SO SCARY, that you're supposed to be glued to your couch in a petrified state. Basically, they're pretentious piles of shit, because the scariest thing rich israelite kids can imagine is that their Uber Eats driver got attacked by a monster, so dinner is going to be late.
Reddit horror.
>post-horror
Does that mean horror movies that aren't even trying to be scary?
>That slow burn, man. So good. I really enjoyed the implementation of liminal spaces. I stan liminal spaces so hard. [Sips almond milk latte]
Ghost Story didn't even pretend or make any even remote attempt at being a horror movie. I will say besides the filler Kate Mara Eats Cake + hipster morons first attempt at philosophy scenes it was actually a great film.
Rooney eats the cake. And she pooped it out later.
Kate supervised.
Kate supervises?
Roo doesn't know how to poop and is often frightened
Pie eating scene was actually great in that it showed a very real reaction to the grief that comes from losing your partner.
>partner
God, I hate you things
I was generalizing, b***h. Marriage is between a man and a woman and no troony shit allowed.
dont talk like them, homosexual
Are you moronic? Partner can mean husband or wife so its a ubiquitous term. What would you have preferred he said?
change your pon
genuinely more frightening ten seconds than anything A24 has ever produced
me no uhhhh speaka the english
A Ghost Story is a drama. I hate the internet.
There was something really spooky about the two ghosts “talking” to each other but yes. It’s a straight up drama at heart.
The same people who call the wailing 'cosmic horror'
horror remains the most moronic genre
it's literally not a valid genre and never has been
It's not a movie but "Black Summer" on Netflix was fricking intense. No jump scares but they nailed the "HOLY FRICK WHY ARE DOING THAT YOU ARE PROBABLY GOING TO BE RIPPED APART BY FRICKING ZOMBIES" feeling. Half the time it was a twist just to frick with the viewer and nothing happened and then the other times when you didn't think nothing should happen something did. Twas a perfect slow burn tv show. No stupid soundtrack to take away from the scenes. Normal actors none of whom I could name but all perfectly suited to their roles because it was just normal people having to react to post-apocalyptic society and scary fricking zombies constantly running around. Highly recommend it.
>No stupid soundtrack to take away from the scenes
homosexual. Lackluster soundtracks and no recognisable themes such as The Exorcist, .or that where a tall man is alien who digs up graves and throws some spherical weapons at humans is what makes horror movies today forgettable. I also hate that tired subtext about mental illness. Letterboxd crowd creams their pants over this one. As if there was a single character in Horror movies that wasn't mentally moronic by default ever lol. I liked some horror movies from the 2010s but Horror is now lacking in fun, scares, atmosphere and sense of mystery.
It became pretty silly at the later episodes to be honest. Couldn't get through season 2, it was utter shit.
Thanks watching it now i am hungry for sweet zombie goodness
>Twas a perfect slow burn tv show.
No jump scares in a zombie show? That takes some serious restraint.
>It's not a movie but "Black Summer" on Netflix was fricking intense. No jump scares
Black Summer really shines with the chase scenes and chaos, along with the mistrust and backstabbing between strangers.
WOW AN ARTICLE FROM 6 YEARS AGO!!!!!
yea we are now post-post-horror right now
>post-thing
I hate millennials so god damn much
how can u feel existential dread from a movie? what kind of onions shit is that?
R*ddit the genre.
Any medium with a prefix of POST- is 100 percent dog shit.
This is "eat the bugs" tier journalism. We've gone from the societal high mark of Freddy vs. Jason to a film like It Comes at Night being venerated, which would be hilarious if it weren't also insulting and analogous to the material, cultural, and spiritual opportunities people are being robbed of. The bait and switch that has been perpetrated on the American people is abundant in its excess, but few examples of the decline subsequently repackaged as "A Good Thing" should be as comical to those devoted to the study of television and film as what we see right here.
>its a horror movie because he's a ghost
I fricking hate journos lad
Yeah, Casper is horror for those frickers
Journalists are ridiculous. A Ghost Story is not even remotely a fricking horror movie. But it's beautiful and everyone should see it at least once.
thanks to slow burn horror we have soijaks
>post horror with existential dread is taking over
Are they high?
Halloween and scream both murdered the box office lately. Both had jump scares and are slasher movies, not alow burn pieces
And black phone that just came out pretty sure it has jump scares as well and is high at the box office.
I'm sure they're talking about prestige, not box office, when they say "taking over cinema". modern horror movies give prestige and awards to the directors, but not slashers or jump scare movies.
>modern horror movies give prestige and awards to the directors, but not slashers or jump scare movies.
And what do people prefer
It is as it always has been: the gays like gay stuff, the average guy wants some random B movie to scare his woman
>It Comes At Night
Absolute dogshit. Everyone involved in that film should be forced to publicly apologise.
>A Ghost Story
Pretty good. Veers towards pretentious but doesn't quite hit it imo. The pie-eating scene was unnecessary but amusing
we're post-entertainment now
None of these films give me existential dread.
>It Comes at Night
This was one of the worst films I've ever watched in my life.
I had such high hopes because of the poster art and then all I got was two unlikable families being grumpy for 90 minutes and some bland pesud moral about how the real monster is survivors guilt.
Fricks sake at least throw in a werewolf.
>Post-horror
Glad I finally have a name for what the Japanese have been doing for decades! I guess it was all post-horror!
Fricking moron journalist.
Post horror would work better as film about slasher's survivor , mother who lost a son against a creepy zombie/ghost and shit.
Basically rocky V of horror so I don't know if it would work
I have always wondered what happened after the poltergeist/demon won and the cops/paramedics/firefighters got to the scene, after the neighbors called. Do the ghosts/demons respect emergency responders or do they frick them up too, creating an infinite chain of emergency responders being swallowed by the haunted house?
Any post hard terror flicks?
A24 movies!
but it comes at night has jump-scares,
do they even see the söy horror movies they rave about?
"elevated horror" is a pure PR fabrication for people that hate horror movies to feel okay about liking the films. horror has always had socio-political themes
Hello, Joe Bob
>replace jump-scares with existential dread
so is every non-slasher horror movie ever made considered "post horror" now? it's all so tiresome...
kinda ashamed to ask my doctor this, but can you get scared from pre-horror?
It's a common misconception that as long as you're bleeding, you can't get scared, and I am here to tell you that the only safe way to not get scared is to wear eye protection.
Don't these people have enough existential horror in their lives? What with Roe V Wade, Trump, 41%ing, and the imminent threat of Christians over taking the world?
The VVitch - fricking masterpiece
Get Out - moronic
The Babadook - Oprah bullshit
It Follows - pretty good but lost steam in 3rd act
Hereditary - One of the best horror movies ever made
Midsommar - slightly disappointing
Bonus: list of movies which are actually post-horror
Wes Cravens New Nightmare
Scream
Anguish
That one Rise of Leslie Vernon movie
Cabin in the Woods
a ghost story isn't horror. it's just depressing
>A Ghost Story
>horror
''''''Journalists'''''' should be burned alive and bulldozed into a mass grave, no exceptions.
they're saying it's post horror and to be fair they'd be right
can't wait for post to die so the neo prefix to take off

Go to http://www.guidetomonsters.com/main.html
Pretty detailed list of horror when it comes to monster/creatures or some slashers, mostly monsters.
Having a blast with the site as I've uncovered many movies I missed out, especially as I love creaturekino.
Even if they're bottom of the barrel I'll still take 'em over family drama horror as a metaphor for mental illness/trauma bullshit
BASED
and thanks fren
The 80's is the best era for horror and nobody can convince me otherwise, even the shittiest and goofiest of these movies are still fun and disgusting and it's the peak of amazing practical effects
cool, reminds me of Bogleech. wonder if either inspired the other
https://bogleech.com/articles.html
A Ghost Story is comfy
For me, it's normal horror
Black person fricks white woman in trailer. have a nice day op
So, late 90s J-horror reinvented by moronic burgers?
>LE SLOWBURN ATMOSPHERIC SCARYYY MOVIE
It's been going on since the 60's then Giallo in the 70's and 80's and J-Horror in 90's and 2000's
It comes at night was genius and there hasn’t been a scarier movie since.
horror isn't cinema
I really liked the concept of this movie, but it just didn't really work out as it should have. I was kind of let down, and maybe it was because I sat my expectations to high before watching it.
>existential dread bad!
Horror hasn't been good since the 70's
Yeah, why this thing could be good.
Expect gurogays to spill their tendies tho.
post horror is when I click through my thread watcher on Cinemaphile the morning after a night of drinking and see all the posts I made
I too have this problem. I’m such a homosexual sometimes.
Why is there no scary anime?
Kairo is a great movie that would fall under the moronic subgenre's definition.
>IS THAT THE NEWEST A24-PRODUCED, GENRE-REDEFINING, TROPE-SUBVERTING, ATMOSPHERIC, DARK AND EERIE, EMOTIONALLY DRAINING, GUT WRENCHING, AESTHETICALLY HEAVY CRAFT BY POST-HORROR AUTEUR WITH AN ARTHOUSE EDGE, DREAD-INDUCING, SUSPENSEFUL BUILD UP WITH STRONG CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT AND GRADUAL FEELING OF ESCALATION, BONE-CHILLING SLOW BURN WITH “SAY MORE WITH LESS” APPROACH AND SOUL-SHAKING, BLOOD-CURDLING, SKIN-CRAWLING AND NERVE-WRACKING EXERCISE IN PERSISTENTLY LOOMING DREAD WHERE TENSION AND ANXIETY PERMEATES EVERY FRAME AS MOVIE REACHES ITS NAIL-BITING, JAW-CLENCHING AND PARANOIA-INDUCING FINAL CLIMAX, FREE OF ANY CHEAP GORE, CARTOONISH CGI OR INFANTILE JUMPSCARES HORROR FILM
how are you meant to know you're scared if there isn't a loud noise and something jumping at the camera?
what does Cinemaphile considers a good horror movie tho? seriously, give at least one example
it comes was the literal least scary horror film i've ever seen. i just can't relate to having sex.
Torture porn isn't "scary" it's just disgusting. There is a difference between being frightened and being grossed out/annoyed at the cringe use of human suffering to get weirdos to see your movie.
That was years ago and things have shifted since. For instance, both Men and X (A24 productions), despite their shortcomings have a considerable amount of gore, violence, body horror, jumpscares etc.
Jumpscares have always been cheap. Don't believe me? Look up classic reviews. You won't. Cowards.
