Post-horror are mediocre horror movies that aren't scary, but you're SUPPOSED to find scary; movies like Midsommar and Get Out, where the premises are SO SCARY, that you're supposed to be glued to your couch in a petrified state. Basically, they're pretentious piles of shit, because the scariest thing rich israelite kids can imagine is that their Uber Eats driver got attacked by a monster, so dinner is going to be late.

It's not a movie but "Black Summer" on Netflix was fricking intense. No jump scares but they nailed the "HOLY FRICK WHY ARE DOING THAT YOU ARE PROBABLY GOING TO BE RIPPED APART BY FRICKING ZOMBIES" feeling. Half the time it was a twist just to frick with the viewer and nothing happened and then the other times when you didn't think nothing should happen something did. Twas a perfect slow burn tv show. No stupid soundtrack to take away from the scenes. Normal actors none of whom I could name but all perfectly suited to their roles because it was just normal people having to react to post-apocalyptic society and scary fricking zombies constantly running around. Highly recommend it.

      Anonymous

      >No stupid soundtrack to take away from the scenes
homosexual. Lackluster soundtracks and no recognisable themes such as The Exorcist, .or that where a tall man is alien who digs up graves and throws some spherical weapons at humans is what makes horror movies today forgettable. I also hate that tired subtext about mental illness. Letterboxd crowd creams their pants over this one. As if there was a single character in Horror movies that wasn't mentally moronic by default ever lol. I liked some horror movies from the 2010s but Horror is now lacking in fun, scares, atmosphere and sense of mystery.

This is "eat the bugs" tier journalism. We've gone from the societal high mark of Freddy vs. Jason to a film like It Comes at Night being venerated, which would be hilarious if it weren't also insulting and analogous to the material, cultural, and spiritual opportunities people are being robbed of. The bait and switch that has been perpetrated on the American people is abundant in its excess, but few examples of the decline subsequently repackaged as "A Good Thing" should be as comical to those devoted to the study of television and film as what we see right here.

I really liked the concept of this movie, but it just didn't really work out as it should have. I was kind of let down, and maybe it was because I sat my expectations to high before watching it.

Kairo is a great movie that would fall under the moronic subgenre's definition.

Torture porn isn't "scary" it's just disgusting. There is a difference between being frightened and being grossed out/annoyed at the cringe use of human suffering to get weirdos to see your movie.

That was years ago and things have shifted since. For instance, both Men and X (A24 productions), despite their shortcomings have a considerable amount of gore, violence, body horror, jumpscares etc.

Jumpscares have always been cheap. Don't believe me? Look up classic reviews. You won't. Cowards.
