great concept, terrible execution although the last hellraiser was great even though it greatly deviated from the core concept and made them more demonic which I understand but still don't like
it will never confuse me that the original writer changed so much for his own adaptation. in the novella they were hedonistic degenerates who experimented until they cracked open another dimension and formed the "order of the gash". kind of beats a hellpriest and his demon henchmen punishing mean people for their sins.
The original novela was basically a rough draft Barker used to pitch the movie to the studio.

Second. The idea of going so far into exploring bodily sensation that you open a dimension where things will give you pains and pleasures (mostly pains) beyond imagining has great launching for monsters and morals.
First movie is a slower burn than maybe it should be, but hits best on the fall into depravity.
Second DEFINITELY takes too long to get to hell, but has the best showing after that. It would have been nice if the series had kept pinhead dead and focused more on the people part, but you can't fault the actor - he is always fun and knows his role.
Third shows the absence of understanding creativity within boundaries, and fails at creating something more than "camera cenobite" and "DJ cenobite" and "arctic camo cenobite" for a toyline.
The rest until the remake you kinda hope everyone on board knew they were made just to keep the licensing.
The remake has good cenobites and people, but I'm not a fan of making the box some multiple choice thing rather than a super serious "Are you sure?" click.

Hellraiser's not a slasher movie in the first place, it's more of a gothic romance horror. As iconic as Pinhead is, he and the cenobites make up about 5% of the movie
5, 6 and 7 are pleb filters. All the others are really bad including the original.
Loved 1 and 2, haven't seen 3 yet. Planning to watch up to 5 at least.
I think it's a classic horror picture.
