Was really cool to do until streaming became a thing. The problem with physical is it takes so much damn space. If you live by yourself its fine but 2 or more people and now there is a problem with storage. And they are expensive if you buy new. I get by with antenna tv and hulu. Once every few weeks ill get a redbox bluray but in terms of price and storage svds totally not worth it anymore unless you are an archiver or something

I dont know what dreck means. Ive never heard anyone ever use that word. For all i know maybe you learned it from the boring 1940s-60s movies you watch by yourself

I'd imagine there's a lot of things you don't know. What sort of exciting film are you going to rent tonight for your movie party?

I think it's incredibly important to at least have physicals of your favorites.

Collecting movies and memorabilia is fine....as long as you are not a Disney man child. Then it's several layers of red flags.

I buy physical because I don't watch TV, or download movies.

I also understand a number of TV stations broadcast edited versions of movies too. I like my films uncut.

There was a thread yesterday regarding the removal of the evangelist scene in the remake of DAWN OF THE DEAD when aired on TV. Expect more of that in the future.

I think its good to have physical or digital (not streaming) copies of your favorites so you can watch them anytime you want without restrictions. That said, I think there should be a limit on what to collect and especially how much room you allow for physical copies.
It is always better than streaming or anything DRM controlled imo. Censorship will only get worse from here on out, so best to get your early copies of movies uncensored as early as you can.

This. You don't have to become a large-scale movie collector, just pick the diamonds in the rough.

I often stream movies which I have BR and torrented 4K versions of. Very often I find out they have removed a specific movie from a streaming service, that's when I watch the torrented variant. The BR disc is the last backup,

This is totally true, I noticed it a long time ago. For example, Disney quietly changes the lyrics of their old movie songs, in this case in Pocahontas:

      >In the song “Savages”, some lyrics where changed as they were viewed as inappropriate:
      >(1) “What can you expect/ from filthy little heathens?/ Their whole disgusting race is like a curse!” was changed to “What can you expect/ from filthy little heathens?/ Here’s what you get when the races are diverse!"
      >(2): "Let’s go kill a few, men!” was changed to “Let’s go get a few men!"
      >(3): "Dirty redskin devils, now we sound the drums of war!” was changed to “Dirty shrieking devils, now we sound the drums of war!"

Streamers won't even get to see some movies that are deemed too "sensitive" for generic audiences. They won't even know what they miss.

Yep. Reminds me of what they apparently did with "French Connection". No one noticed until recently - one wonders how long it had the change made to it without people knowing.
I stream stuff, but once I begin working again plan to get more physical copies. I don't trust streaming services, especially since 99% of them buy into the SJW lust for censorship.

I typically go with physical media if possible and pirating. Recently I've considered uploading the dvds I have to the web.

I have more than 300 movies on blu-ray plus The Shield and Sopranos full series. I'm getting Twin Peaks soon, but it's honestly a waste of money. I like film and have nothing else to buy.

it doesn't cost a lot, and if you enjoy what you're buying why the hell wouldn't you? access to this material is subject to streaming companies and rights holders otherwise. This is the purest form of on demand , and it can't be edited, censored, or deleted.

No. I do not watch TV or movies anymore. I just browse YT shorts and TikTok for 7 hours a day. That is the future.

In an age where the studios can and will alter old movies to their whims, it's required to have a physical copy that they can't molest.

All of those movies in this picture could be stored in 250 disc case holders and take up 1/10th of that entire space after you throw away all the cases.

I guess it depends entirely on your storage strategy and use. Are you an archivist, a purist, or someone that might want casual ergonomic movement of a film with self contained documentation and information available with said item.

For me streaming is literally AIDS. Two story home so if I am streaming upstairs I can expect multiple disconnects. Your average new release Blu-ray has a 4K stream beat in A/V quality. A 4K disc on a 4K tv is heaven. Streaming services all make woke garbage now. When was the last good tv show made? True Detective S1. Their made for streaming movies are terrible. I would rather spend $20 to $40 dollars a month on one or two good movies on disc than $14 dollars a month for Netflix or Hulu or whatever the frick. But even now most new movies are shit and cant even find one new movie a month I want to purchase. The only movie I know of that is coming out soon that I might watch is Eli Roth's Thanksgiving depending on the trailer.
