why not include the 87 series?

its the style guide turtles which are used solely for products and not the actual 87 turtles
You might want to get your autism checked out.
>when ever its something I don't care about its autism
bet you b***h and moan when they race swap characters
It's still clearly supposed to be 80s turtles.
But keep on being delusional 80sgay.
What are the "actual 87 turtles"? There was shockingly little cohesion between licensed products and the show at the time. Ryan Brown's art didn't become the """official""" style until quite a bit after the fact
I should really sit down and watch the 2003 series one of these days
You should, it's pretty great, aside from that one thing about it everybody universally dislikes.
and that is?
When someone says that it usually means an undesirable sexual event occurred between two characters no one wanted to see frick.
I assume Fast Forward and Back to the Sewers.
I'm still waiting for a solid release of the 2003 show. How are you supposed to watch it?
>How are you supposed to watch it?
Right now its one of like two series completely available on streaming on Paramount + . 2012 only has season 1 available in the US on Netflix, Rise is on Paramount + and Netflix. The entire 03 series is also on youtube free.
The question is, how does anyone watch the 80's show besides pirating or DVDs? Its never been streaming as far as I know.
Paramount Plus is US only
wcofun of course
It's terrible quality
It gets a ton of play in the TMNT channel on Plutotv
but he was the nexus champion. Also 2012 mikey is worse in literally every way.

Oh well better than nothing

The frick? Last I checked Nick was taking down any episodes
Paramount+
80's:
Fun as frick, but only watchable a few episodes at a time. Season 1 is great and witty, season 2 is alright, season 3-6 are good in small doses.
90's(Red Skies might as well be a new show)
a bog standard 90's action show. More watchable than the later seasons of the original run, but not particularly memorable. In some ways feels like a prototype for 2k3.
2003
Solid 2000's action show, probably the measuring stick for all future adaptations. Not as dry and serious as people claim it is, but the humor doesn't hit as well as other series and feels obnoxious. Feels satisfying to binge watch since status quo keeps getting changed and developed, but I can see people having trouble being endeared to it. Feels cheap too, but soulful. My personal favorite, so I'm biased.
2012
I'd say the best on a technical level. Characters can be really obnoxious sometimes. The first 2 seasons or so are really solid, and the final main season wraps up enough loose ends to feel satisfying, but it feels like there's a lot of filler. I feel like you could carve out a great 26-32 episode series out of it.
Rise
An alright show with a bad rep, but also not what a lot of people would want out of a TMNT series. its a tricky subject. Its by no means a bad show but just being different doesn't make it great either. It definitely deserved another season to find more footing though.
thanks anon I was wanting to get back into tmnt and this helps. I'll check out Rise.
>I want to get into TMNT so I'll watch the series the least like anything TMNT before!
If you want shitty animation and character design then yeah go ahead. But it's also literally the worst one to pick as your first.
>Rise
>Shitty animation
No amount of webms posted will convince me it's not complete and utter shit.
Literally the animated equivalent to shaking your keys in front of a baby.
No, it's the animated equivalent of watching a monster truck show.
I was thinking more wrestle mania/ultimate muscle
Funny, i was going to say that but then i thought monster trucks have more destruction.
But yeah, that works too.
That sounds like kino. I’m going to watch it now
Rise's animation is that fast overly choppy shit some anime use to hide the lack of actual drawings and frames.
Well i don't consider that to be bad.
This might be the most reasonable take I've ever read.
>Red Skies
Why do people keep calling it this? As a kid I distinctly remember commercials calling it "The Next Mutation" so it already had a name,
The Next Mutation is something entirely different. That's a rubber-suit show that introduced Venus de Milo. It only ran for a single season.
I know that show and I think both were called the same. Let me try to look for commercials
This might be because The Next Mutation was originally going to be the name of movie 4, but it got repurposed as the TV show title . Somewhere along the line it might've been a temporary name for the later seasons and the commercial writer saw this and was working on that info, possibly.
Alternatively, you saw a commercial referring to their second mutation in those episodes and it blended into you thinking it was the title The Next Mutation.
2003 seres made a touchng tribute to Jack Kirby when he died.
That episode was an adaptation of Donnie's solo issue from the original 80's series. Really glad they did too, it and the STAS episode was how I learned of Kirby.
Jack Kirby actually did draw the turtles once, one of the Turtle creators commissioned it and ended up giving it to the other as a gift.
wow that looks bad lmao. The kirby style doesnt translate well to turtles.
He did better the second time, though I don't know how much was the inker doing heavy lifting. to be fair I think that first image was even before the cartoon so the Turtles weren't solidified in terms of design just yet.
oh yeah thats great
03 starts good but you should stop when they go to the future
Also not a fan of their crossover with the 87 cartoon
Yeah, I'm a huge '03 shill, but even I couldn't deal with the future thing for long.
There's some weird rule about TMNT shows that require them to do some radical shift in the last 1-2 seasons to keep things fresh. For 1987 it was the red skies, for 2003 it was fast forward and for 2012 it was Tales of the TMNT. Rise only had two seasons which allowed it to be the most consistent show.
A consistenly good franchise with enoygh difference between each version that tou can watch each one and basically get a different show.
Didn't appreciate Rise when it was airing as much as I should. First seasons starts a bit rough but when it's good, it's really good.
Design-wise, I think 2012 strikes a nice balance between making all the turtles distinct while not going super overboard like Rise did. It's also the first thing to make Leo relatively likable. Prior to 2012, I feel like Leo was rarely anyone's favorite turtle, and if he was, it's usually for shallow reasons like "he's blue" or "he has swords".
For its own part, I think Rise was the best one on a sheer technical level, and it had some very fluid and enjoyable animation. Raph was a downgrade, Mikey was surprisingly dull and Donny was pretty unlikable. I actually almost kinda liked Leo sometimes, but then something always happens that makes me like him less again.
By the way, I really hate 2003's Mikey.
>By the way, I really hate 2003's Mikey.
Even more than 2012 Mike?
He was annoying, but what really irritates me about 2003 Mikey is that he's just a way shittier Movie Trilogy Mikey, and I actually like Movie Mikey. I tend to hate things that are heavily downgraded versions of things I like.
>Prior to 2012, I feel like Leo was rarely anyone's favorite turtle, and if he was, it's usually for shallow reasons like "he's blue" or "he has swords".
Leo's always been my favorite precisely because he was the stuffy teacher's pet and I personally kinda dislike the attempts to make him so relatable.
For what it's worth though I think Leo and Mikey are kind of on opposite paths as time goes on; original Mikey was probably the best of his adaptations as far as TV, with him arguably getting more annoying as time goes on, or just irrelevant in the case of Rise. Leo gets more personality traits in more adaptations.
As far as 03 Mikey, I do like that he wasn't just a complete idiot and did show some flexible thinking, even if he was annoying and often cowardly.
2012 would have been SO much better for me if not for the stumpy feet.
I don't know why but I could never get over that.
Same goes for blue arms on Sonic though, so maybe I have a touch of the ol 'tism.
Speaking of turtles, does anyone know anything about the third movie's production? Specifically the suits? I always thought that the action in TMNT3 was a massive improvement over TMNT1 and 2, though at the cost of making all the faces wide-eyed, creepy and expressionless. Were the suits specifically easier to move in or something?
I kinda like the Red Sky season's unstable mutation concept. It'd be cool in a video game as sort of like a Devil Trigger.
What one has the most fricked up body horror?
2003 has the single most notable notable episode with the Baxter stockman clone body episode. 2012 has it more frequently though it plays it for laughs a lot or doesn't take it super serious.
You're right, but 87 Baxter's transformation into a fly mutant is notable for how much of a jarring tonal shift that episode is from the normal 87 tone, Krang was trying to disintegrate the poor guy, he instead becomes an insane fly monster in a homage to the 80s remake of The Fly.
The one thing above others that I struggle to gel with in Rise is the changing of the character dynamics.
I wish they'd let 80s TMNT hare the spotlight with the other eras.
2k3 was amazing.
Careful, that opinion isn't welcome here.
Not him but, why?
From what i've seen Cinemaphile likes 2003 TMT with all of the images posted from it, especially those of April.
For the last year or two, there's been someone spamming low effort posts about the 2003 TMNT series. Just posting a single picture randomly like a photo of April and saying "Discuss redheads" or a picture of Casey and saying "Discuss sports in cartoons." And probably more annoyingly, spamming a bunch of really random sounding requests in the drawthreads and hijacking 80's April threads to post the same images of her(since 03 April is probably the least impactful April to most people, its just made it annoying to people.) Since Cinemaphile is petty, this has kind of stirred discussion against the 03 show; even then people are still fairly positive about it when discussing it earnestly.
So, only petty jerks hate 2003 TMNT and they're the vast minority?
>Design wise
The Batman v TMNT movie takes the cake.
The worst shredder has got to be the 2012 version. What a pathetic simp.
how many times did he tell someone that they have one last chance and then give them another chance lol
That's the issue with trying to create an actually threatening villain in a show where he's not actually allowed to kill anyone.
Shredder murdered Splinter twice.
And yet he lives.
No, he died.
The first time was undone by time travel but the second time he stayed dead.
BTW i'm not counting the attempted murders because he survived those ones, obviously.
>the only way to be threatening is to murder
No, anon. No.
All you need to do is have Shredder lose insignificant battles, yet still be successful enough to cause problems that can't be solved in 22 minutes.
Whether a writing staff does that, is a whole different story.
>That's the issue with trying to create an actually threatening villain in a show where he's not actually allowed to kill anyone.
>About the ONE Shredder that actually killed a main character.
2012 Shredder was actually terrifying and kicked ass.
The first time maybe, but then they went overboard with his obsession with Tang Shen.
She hardly gets brought up iirc.
In the original comics it was Shredder’s older brother who lusted after Tang Shen
His voice sucks too, it just typical bad guy doesn't have the uniqueness of Uncle Phil or Scottie Ray.
The voice is actually cool.
The voice actor does good work with bad guys.
It's generic as hell, that va good, I love his Joker but his Shredder is lame.
The voice isn't even generic unless you compare it to the other roles of that VA specifically.
Even so a voice not being unique isn't a bad thing, in fact the voice really fits the 2012 version of Shredder. There's really no other kind of voice that would fit him as well.
>The Batman v TMNT movie takes the cake.
Batman V TMNT is a goddamn gem and I'm pissed people keep sleeping on that, it's unironcally the best Batman OR TMNT anything since the 90's.
It has fun, it has heart, it has great fight scenes, and it actually respects all the characters and makes it a damn joy to watch. This is the only time Damien is actually fun in any of those crappy WB movies.
wise
>The Batman v TMNT movie takes the cake.
They have this thing I dislike about modern TMNT designs where their faces look too round and beak less. Donnie especially looks weird. Its like its a design based off another design instead of trying to be a turtle.
Donnie looks like one of those robots from The Second Renaissance.
Well they are supposed to be mutated with human DNA.
Also they look better in the movie. That screenshot doesn't do it justice. I don't think that frame is even in the movie.
They were trying to find some middle ground with the 2012 adaptation and it didn't quite land, you can especially see it in how they tried to make 2012 Donnie's more elongated face work. That said the movie's goddamn fantastic.
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/304533893259?hash=item46e7a2708b:g:uUgAAOSw1uJirzoH
I wish I owned one of these, cartoon was badass with an awesome intro.
If anything, I'd say that Shredder's the one who needs a bit of background tuning. His reasons for operating a criminal empire in New York and not, you know, Japan, always tend to be arbitrary.
I grew up with 80s and also just young enough to do so with 2K3.
I feel like those two, with 2K3 standing in for Mirage, will always be the two conflicting strains of TMNT. Maybe a 'Mirage'-ified blend like Genesis/Mega Drive Tournament Fighters is the best bet for a definitive TMNT.
I liked 03 and 12.
I also liked the Batman vs TMNT movie
That's the era for me.
80s TMNT really was just a product of its time and a more light and cartoony version of the original comics. It's basically Tenn Titans Go before Teen Titans Go.
2003 and 2012 does the franchise more justice and has more mature themes and stories.
Haven't seen enough of Rise to give any thoughts, except some of the new villains are cool.
>'87
Donnie is the writer's favorite by far
Leo is the next most important, though Mikey gets his share of main esp. Raph got nothing until Red Sky season.
>2003
This is the Leo show. Leo is the golden child that centers in all the plots despite being the most boring, even stealing Raph's character arc with the angry Leo season. Donnie second with lots of fan service. Mikey at least won the tournament. This series was shit for Raph, irrelevant and implied to be the weakest.
>2012
Another Leo favorite show. Started out pretty neutral but ramped up and went full Leo suck off mode when Seth Green took over.
Mikey and Donnie were about the same, Donnie got more plot but not good plot.
Raph was a total joke in this series, culminating with pairing him with the ugly lizard woman who emasculates him.
>Rise
Pretty neutral, Mikey is the loser in terms of relevance here. The netflix movie looks like its about to shit all over the WE DO WE message and Raph's leadership.
80's raph is a different beast but shredder's Revenge got me missing sarcastic Raph compared to angry new Yawk Raph. I wouldn't mind that personality returning sometime.
I will say 03is notable for being the first time a cartoon Raph had the accent and the angry personality.
I grew up with the 80s cartoon and it was fun, but not really compelling enough to revisit again.
2003 was when I was getting back into animation and I thought it was interesting. A good balance of humor and seriousness, with an interesting continuity that unfolded in fascinating ways. A shame the final two seasons were garbage.
2012 had great CG animation and art direction, but the first season was very boring and generic. The latter seasons were very hit or miss. I liked some of the character reinventions and stories, but hated the characterizations and writing. They literally recycled the same plot points 2 or 3 times to stall for time.
I've been catching up to Rise. It's fun and I liked their new characters and visual styles, but their animation is very inconsistent. The plots also aren't very interesting half the time.
87: Fine for what it was but that's about it.
03: Peak animated Turtles till Fast Foward came and frick it up.
12:A mix of the first two but not as strong as 03
Rise: Trash and not Turtles.
In my opinion
2012>03>87>Rise
03 would be the best, but for the last two seasons. 87 is let down by the red sky seasons too. I liked Rise, but it was the weakest show. Might have found its feet if it was longer.
2012 always felt extremely limited in what they can do and empty as hell as world because CGI, since you know you have to render new shit everytime vs the 2D shows you can just draw up new models and BGs.
They actually had it make sense considering most of the show takes place at night and there were a decent amount of background characters during the day.
I remember hearing the same argument for Beware the Batman.
Reboot feels more lively than both shows and it's early CGI.
Night time Anon, night.
Actual Question: why didn't TMNT creators give Donnie a unique belt for good that much sooner (2012 giving it to him with a single shoulder strap and it's stuck since) and why hasn't Raph or Mikey ever gotten unique belts in turn for clarity's sake? Don's single-strap belt seems to come from the 1990 movie, Raph's 87 and 2K3 toys have sai holsters, so I'm surprised he never got a belt incorporating them for good in a new adaption. Mikey I'm fine having a default no-feature belt as the OG-designed turtle and chucks not quite getting in the way like other weapons do.
Well when Donnie became more tech savy they needed to give him something to store all of his gadgets.
Like Batman's belt, you know?
Kind of funny how much Image did to make the turtles look different
Leo lost a hand
Ralph lost an eye
Donnie was a cyborg
I grew up watching 78 but 2k3 is objectively the best series. 2012 and rise were fine
Why is honor such a central component of TMNT? Ninjas are the literal opposite of honorable, they were wet workers in feudal Japan. Shoguns hired them to do shit that no samurai would dirty their hands with because it would go against bushido.
Cuz it's always been there also their heroes.
Honor is big in Japanese culture.
The honor of a ninja is more like loyalty to a master, family, or something important. Living in the shadows, carry the burden while alive, your death is of no importance.
>Honor is big in Japanese culture.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gekokuj%C5%8D
Depends on what kind of "honor". Before the Edo period, personal and family reputations was the main thing.
>87 Donnie is the one with the most fearsome facial expression
Doesn't feel right.
Lets face it, 80's turtles will always be the ones people think of. The 90's movie had the better versions, the 2003 one had a much better story, even 2012 had a lot more consistency in addition to its comedy, but the 80's turtles are THE Turtles for most people.
This isn't a negative, it's just something they need to keep in mind going forwards. The best I can correlate it to would be Scooby Doo, as far as there has to be enough of the OG Scooby in them that anyone could easily and instantly say "That's Scooby Doo". This doesn't mean you have to be beholden to the original, Mystery Inc showed you CAN do things that are fresh and new while still paying proper respect to what came before, but I feel like if you go too far like Rise did, people just don't see the Turtles anymore and that's why they didn't buy the toys/watch the show. 2012 got the closest to striking a good balance and it was far and away the most successful Turtles show since the original, at least in regards to toy sales since Playmates went wild about it.
Call it Nostaglia pandering if you must, but if they're going to be beholding to the name of the IP, why not actually pander to the fans?
I feel free and liberated as someone trying to get into TMNT but being unbound by not having any attachment to TMNT 87. 2003 was more or less my show, even though I was already 17 by that point, and now I'm trying to actually watch it in earnest.
You do know that there are lots of fans who prefer and/or grew up on the 2003 and 2012 turtles, right?
Why alienate those fans? Why not give love to each TMNT cartoon?
It even makes more sense on a merchandising standpoint. Why make money by pandering to fans of one of the series when you can make money pandering to fans of all of the series?
Not to mention that 2003 and 2012 have characters that the 80s version don't have, biggest example being Karai.
>Why alienate those fans? Why not give love to each TMNT cartoon?
There's nothing in that post that claims otherwise, unless you're including the changes from Rise which would contradict what the fans of all three of those would enjoy regarding a certain light-ginger-to-full-on-redhead.
I mean I'm gonna go out on a limb and say fans of the 80's show wouldn't exactly cry foul to a tournament reference from the 03 show and 2012 certainly had no problem using a more serialized storyline and Karai to substantial success. But it's still nostalgia pandering for the nearly 20 year old 03 show, there's just nothing wrong with that. Why not pander to the fans if they're going to cling to the name of the IP?
You're basically saying "Why not only focus on the 80s?" when you say stuff like "Why not pander to the fans if they're going to cling to the name of the IP?" by implying that fans only care about the 80s.
It's really a biased and one sided view of the franchise in favor of the 80s while shunning everything else about the franchise.
>"Why not only focus on the 80s?"
But I specifically cited Mystery Inc, which kept the aesthetics and core genre while doing its own wholly unique thing, but still absolutely pandered to the fans of the original in storyline, references and how the characters were recognizable. Same thing 2012 did to huge success.
>It's really a biased and one sided view of the franchise in favor of the 80s while shunning everything else about the franchise.
Maybe, but is it really that out there just not to disregard the show that obviously is still most well known by the general populace? I mean even Shredder's Revenge is apparently selling fantastic, and that's a retro game of all things.
So, sure, pander to the 03's and fans of 2012 too if you want. Maybe have a crossover with them too, people liked those generally. Just, you know, don't go SO far that it loses the whole reason you're even using this IP in the first place, because the original was a goddamn sensation back in the day. Just don't go full Rise and you should be fine.
2012 really feels like it's own thing though.
Aside from the remade theme song it doesn't really feel like it went out of its way to pander to the 80s.
>Just, you know, don't go SO far that it loses the whole reason you're even using this IP in the first place, because the original was a goddamn sensation back in the day. Just don't go full Rise and you should be fine.
The irony of this is that this is exactly what the 80s TMNT did compared to the original comics they're based on.
>Aside from the remade theme song it doesn't really feel like it went out of its way to pander to the 80s.
They literally brought back Michelanglo's original voice actor and had him voice a character specifically so 2012 mikey would say "Cowabunga". They had TWO crossovers with the original cast and had them well portrayed both times. It had references to multiple episodes, some of which were 1-1 lifted, and the whole "Baxter is a fly" thing. It's funny since 2003 actually did the Mirage comics right by having him be a cyborg but nobody else does it.
>The irony of this is that this is exactly what the 80s TMNT did compared to the original comics they're based on.
And? I'm not disputing the original comics were way different, just what history picked as the winner of the two.
>and had him voice a character
AND that character is in fact from the original toyline. That said 2012 had a tendency to reference a lot of Turtles media, it even did a mini arc on a farm with a lot of shots straight up copied in reference to the 90's movie, just with Leo there instead of Raph. It even copied the spirit campfire scene. 2012's honestly a good example of someone saying "Yes, we're going to do our own thing, but we're not going to forget our roots and we still acknowledge you older fans.", it's not surprising it was a massive toy hit.
>They literally brought back Michelanglo's original voice actor and had him voice a character specifically so 2012 mikey would say "Cowabunga"
He says "Boyakasha" throughout the majority of the show.
>They had TWO crossovers with the original cast
One crossover, one cameo. They're also canonically dead because of 2012.
Also, 2003 did that too but you don't see anyone using that to claim 2003 panders to the 80s.
>and had them well portrayed both times.
The same can be said for most crossovers.
>It had references to multiple episodes, some of which were 1-1 lifted, and the whole "Baxter is a fly" thing.
They did the same for the 2003 series but i don't see you claiming that they pnder to 2003 fans because of it.
>And? I'm not disputing the original comics were way different, just what history picked as the winner of the two.
You missed my point.
The point is that the 80s series itself proves the whole "don't go SO far that it loses the whole reason you're even using this IP in the first place" mentality wrong.
And by older fans it's not just the 80s, something that should be present in a lot of TMNT media.
>He says "Boyakasha" throughout the majority of the show
He changes it up after the salamander episode.
>One crossover, one cameo
You're just plain wrong on this one. Transdimensional Turtles from season 4 and The Foot Walks Again from Season 5.
>Also, 2003 did that too
Well, yes and no. It didn't do it in the show, in fact it did it a year after the show ended, and the only reason they don't call it Pandering is that, unlike Trans-Dimensional Turtles which had the 80's turtles fighting on par if not better than the 2012 crew and actually made 1-1 refences to the show, it made them pretty damn ineffectual and made up stuff like 'Anti-technodrome roller skates'.
>The same can be said for most crossovers.
Can't be said for the 2003/80's crossover.
>They did the same for the 2003 series but i don't see you claiming that they pander to 2003 fans because of it.
I actually did by specifically citing Karai, who's only known from the 2003 show. They absolutely brought her back and made her a bigger part of the show.
>The point is that the 80s series itself proves the whole "don't go SO far that it loses the whole reason you're even using this IP in the first place" mentality wrong.
Counterpoint, Next Mutation, Rise, the Anime and current IDW.
Changing it up doesn't exactly have a good track record.
>You're just plain wrong on this one. Transdimensional Turtles from season 4 and The Foot Walks Again from Season 5.
Oh yeah, i forgot that one.
Trans-Dimensional Turtle did give the 80s turtle a bigger role than they did in Turtles Forever but they didn't do more or even better than the 2012 turtles. In fact they were often treated as jokes and the 80s universe is portrayed as weaker and more of a joke than the 2012 universe. The way Kraang is treated is evidence of that.
Also the 80s turtles pretty much die at they end. The 80s turtles are canonically dead because Tiger Claw, a 2012 original, murdered them.
>Can't be said for the 2003/80's crossover.
I think you misunderstand. When i said most crossovers i'm talking about most of every crossover in existence and how they treat their characters. From the Jimmy Timmy Power Hour to Project X Zone to Marvel Vs Capcom (Excluding Infinite) etc.
>I actually did by specifically citing Karai, who's only known from the 2003 show. They absolutely brought her back and made her a bigger part of the show.
So you admit that the 2012 series doesn't pander to only specifically the 80s fans.
>Counterpoint, Next Mutation, Rise, the Anime and current IDW.
>Changing it up doesn't exactly have a good track record.
And like i said, the 80s cartoon proves you wrong. Not to mention the fact that the TMNT media you listed had other problems beside changing it up (Assuming changing things up is even a problem) that caused them to not be as big.
There's also the fact that the 2003 series changed it up by adapting the comics instead of pandering to the 80s and it did great.
Also even the 2012 series changed it up. Even when it did take elements from the 80s it changed them up so much to making them its own.
>. The 80s turtles are canonically dead because Tiger Claw, a 2012 original, murdered them.
You've said this twice and seem to be ignoring that them NOT being dead in The Foot Walks Again proves he didn't win the fight at the end of Trans Dimensional Turtles. You seem to be mixing the worm that came at the end of the cameo from season 2, which had Tiger Claw in it, and forget that Foot Walks Again canonically takes place later and references the events in Trans Dimensional Turtles.
What bizarre logic did you even use to get to him killing them?
More bizarre is canonically Tiger Claw lost an eye in this fight, he didn't just lose, he got blinded for his trouble either during it or later. They're not only not canonically dead they possibly fricking took his eye out.
The episode where Tiger Claw returns showed them dead in a flashback so they must have retconned it.
Just went to check it out on the Wiki. Turns out i remember that scene wrong. Apologize for that.
But even so they did not defeat Tiger Claw, he was too powerful for them.
Also he still has his eye here meaning they weren't the ones who damaged it.
Also he was fighting of armies when traveling different dimensions so not only did he beat the 80s turtles but he also survived who knows how many dangerous dimensions.
>Aside from the remade theme song it doesn't really feel like it went out of its way to pander to the 80s.
Did you watch the same show? Because while it isn't just 1:1 the 80' show, it makes a consious effort to throwback to a lot of things that weren't seen in adaptations since the 80's sow ended
>Have Bebop and Rocksteady despite setting up two other mutant henchmen
>Yoshi as Splinter, at the time only something the 80's cartoon and its derivatives used
>Irma as April's friend
>April wearing yellow prominently
>The Kraang in general
>Mutagen as a frequent plotpoint
>A bunch of reinventions of 80's original characters
There's a lot of Mirage and even 2003 in its DNA, but its the most direct update of the 80's show.
>Have Bebop and Rocksteady despite setting up two other mutant henchmen
They reinvented them to the point where they're their own things. Not to mention that the other two mutants you mention, Rahzar and Tiger Claw, are used more, are more involved with the plot, are Shredder top two servants and Bebop and Rocksteady are portrayed as a more comedic duo compared to them.
>Yoshi as Splinter, at the time only something the 80's cartoon and its derivatives used
That one's a fair point.
>Irma as April's friend
Turned out to be a Kraang spy.
>The Kraang in general
Again, reinvented into its own thing entirely.
The crossover also goes out of its way to disrespect the original Kraang. (It actually goes out of its way to disrespect a lot of the 80s versions by making them jokes and weaker versions)
Also Kraang is based on the Utroms from the original Mirage comics.
>Mutagen as a frequent plotpoint
Another fair point, although calling mutagen 80s pandering at this point is like calling Mr. Freeze's dying wife BTAS pandering.
>A bunch of reinventions of 80's original characters
Does the same for almost every piece of TMNT media that came before it along with creating new characters.
If that's what you call pandering to the 80s then the show panders to the entire franchise, not just the 80s specifically.
The thing is, the 80's show hasn't been freely available for well over 25 years now. Its never been streaming, as far as I know in the US, at least. Viacom hasn't made any attempt at getting the streaming rights, either.
Its like Mickey Mouse, people know it exists, but few people under a certain age have seen an entire piece of original media with the character; and even Mickey gets new cartoons of his original incarnation. People know the cowabunga stuff, the theme song, but not necessarily stuff like Krang being the main villain, or Raph being more of a jokester, and especially not the channel 6 crew.
Yes. Yes. Yes. Burn it with fire and never stop.
I hate TMNT 2003's theme song.
I hate 2012 and really any instance of rap or hiphop in the franchise. It always feels really cringy and tacky, like some out-of-touch exec decided to put the most toothless rap on a kid's cartoon. I can only stand Turtle Power from the original movie OST but even then the lyrics make me roll my eyes.
That said, even it'd be cringy I think ska would be a great fit for a TMNT soundtrack.
I thought the rap theme song of 2012 was cool though
>Splinter taught them to be ninja teens
No...he taught them to be ninjas. They became teens on their own.
No, you have to mature some to leave childhood behind. You have to teach some to be a teen, and you can't stop, or they don't become an adult.
What's weird is that the 80's TMNT were never babies. They just straight mutated to grown ass turtle men. So arguably he did indeed have to teach them to be teenagers.
Wait, it's not Ninja Team!?
I thought it was Ninja Team the whole time!
No, because then the lyric should be "Splinter taught them to be A ninja team," but the 'a' is never said. "Ninja teens" is the only thing that would make sense there.
>They became teens on their own.
Right but he specifically made them NINJA teens.
They would always have been Teens, but if he hadn't taught them they wouldn't be NINJA teens.
Come on this isn't complicated.
2007 is the best movie and incarnation of the TMNT
I wish the Bay turtles' personalities could cross over to a different adaptation. I really liked how they were portrayed in that movie, it was probably the best part of it.
I hope the next TMNT movie cuts down on the weird raunchy humor, this is supposed to be a franchise for kids. Transformers also did this.
Didn't TMNT 2012 make an ass-to-mouth pun...?
The biggest contribution the Bay Turtles had to the wider series is giving Raphael a durag.
I wish Donnie wouldn't wear glasses.
We get it, he's the team geek, you don't have to be so on the nose about it.
Did the sale of the TMNT to Nickelodeon in 2009 pay off?
You're getting heavy into the comics with this rant which I'm gonna be blunt with you, not a lot of people read. Even Rise is better well known than that IDW dumpster fire. You'd be better off referencing Archie comics, at least those were a hit in SOME era.
2K3 April's fine, April from 2012 early on served the story well with her perspective and it really only got bad in the later seasons, like most of the writing in general did, and April from the original show isn't any more annoying than any other not-turtle character. Least she isn't Vernon. Karai in 2012 had a decent arc and she actually fit into the story well with being Yoshi's biological daughter and Shredder's adoptive one, and 2012 Mona Lisa was really fun in her episodes(Even if the writing did take a MASSIVE shit when it came to naming her. I mean, Raph just goes "Your name is hard to say so I'm going to call you something else", the frick dude?)
Alopex and Jennika are the only comic exclusive characters he mentioned, though. but he's the other resident TMNT thread schizo so don't think about it too much anyway.
I wonder if we're ever gonna see concepts and stories from the IDW TMNT in other media. Mutant Town would be cool to see
>IDW
>Mutant Town
Underground city is more reasonable than this shit.
it all comes down to how the mutagen works in the particular iteration of the TMNT. splinter can't even consistently be a human turned rat or rat turned humanoid
I think RISE splinter was my most hated turned most favorite iteration of the character
which do you like more?
My favorite shounen anime.
oh I forgot the 2003 one, I think it's my favorite actually
You also forgot Rise but even though it's cool it's not my personal favorite.
honestly I think it's the worse something about it feels really off. Most cartoon theme songs suck now
for me its 2003>80's>2012>rise
2003.
this one gets you pumped despite the season not being all that good
Every version of Ninja Turtles is valid except the third movie and Next Mutation.
My favorite has always been the 2002 series. They're all TMNT though.
Why do people hate rise so much
It had a “frick old, here’s new” type of attitude in the first episode that scared away the older fan base, from characterization to character design.
I love RISE because of those bold choices and animation. If almost comes off as a “What if” and spiderwebs from that
I grew up watching the 2nd, so them I guess.
Rise had my favorite depictions of Leo and Donnie. And I have never liked any Leo before. It's main flaw was a lack of worthwhile villains. They were almost 90s villain of the week-tier.
S+ | C | A | D-
A rating like this should be elaborated on.
The accurate comic adaptation featured at the end of Turtles Forever available in an alternate timeline where there is an accurate comic adaptation.
i prefer the previous ones, at least is not ridden by degenerates who shamelessly draw porn of the characters in their tumblrs
Anon, that happens to all the series.
I've seen some Rise porn.
lmao are you trying reverse psychology to get some lewds?
How can people stand the animation in 2012 and Rise? The writing could be fantastic for all I know, but I want to puke when I look at that.
>87
Terrible, but there's a certain fun spirit there that has a lot of potential. It gave us a really good movie and good games, so I don't hate it.
>03
Better as a show, but stylistically kind of boring in comparison. It's like Red Sky in that it's trying to be more of a serious superhero show, and it's good, but despite being the one I primarily watched I don't find it that memorable.
>2012
Bounced between really good and really flawed. I think the CG style is honestly kind of ugly and I'm not really a fan of it.
>Rise
I like Rise's art and vibe a lot, but the humor might've been just a step too harebrained and oriented at kids for me to really love it.
I think something between Rise, '80s, and '03 would be great. Fun, colorful setting, solid animation, and enough of a foundation to attach to and not just be something harebrained to watch on the fly. I honestly think Rise came closest to what I want.
2K3 TMNT is more like they just want to be "edgy". But it's still a kid shows. Don't forget they let 2k3 Casey saved Hun, the one who killed his father. It's funny that 2012 Leo can kill Shredder.
>I think something between Rise, '80s, and '03 would be great. Fun, colorful setting, solid animation, and enough of a foundation to attach to and not just be something harebrained to watch on the fly.
I really just want a show like Shredder's Revenge's opening animation.
>Shredder's Revenge's
I've played this game for a while and I am legit stunned how good it is. It's a perfect throwback to the TMNT games I played as a kid and it makes me so happy.
I guess you can do nostalgia without shitting on your fanbase.
2012 = 2003 in quality. They had different strengths and weaknesses but in final analysis were equally good efforts.
1987 was important and there are some gems in there, but also a lot of dross. Still love it, but recognize it as a product of its times.
Rise is... there.
´87 was hit heavily by "pandering to kids too". Kinda like Ghostbusters did in that era too.
Which series has the hottest April?
Do you honestly even have to ask
Pretty much all of them except Rise.
We all agree 2012 Splinter was the best one though, right?
2012 and Rise are best Splinters.
>Rise
I love that Raph and Splinter have good story development in later episodes.
>2012 Splinter
He was great until the writer kill him many times.
lewd
How she gets a raise
>No crow wing.
>Not wearing a long nose mask.
>Dressing like samurai, not a monk.
>Become the western dragon, not eastern dragon or giant crow.
How could they call this is Tengu Shredder? More like Oni.
I love being a turtle
All are great. Except for 2k3. It tries too hard.
Shiteater.
2012 is the best besides its mistakes
thread theme:
80s had the best designs but worst story
the original live action movie was great
What do you guys think of the '03 italian opening? It was made from the same guy who did i'm blue, gabry ponte https://youtu.be/fSlOMvPrvdc
thats... certainly something.
proof that 03 were the best
