You can't. Those tropical body pillows are harder and cylinder-shaped, like in the picture. It probably also makes them more sweat-resistant, because those things are 100% for sleeping comfortably in higher temperatures. I seriously considered getting one during one of the hotter summers.
I bought a Judy Hopps body pillow once because I was a bit tipsy and thought it would be funny.
I just keep it under my bed because I don't know what else to do with it.

I sleep on my side but I've found it feeling off with my arm hanging down and the pillow in my arms kind feels more comfortable. Of course I toss and turn and it ends up out of my arms or falling off the bed but it feels like it's the only way I can fall asleep now.
Back when I had a dakimakura I found it hard to sleep on my side and hug it to sleep so I rarely did. It just feels nice having something there lifting the sheet and blanket up creating a "presence"
It also can make things very comfy and help insulate in winter. Since I've gotten elsa babe dolls, I haven't used my dakimakura since winter.
