so, 'review' channels are generally awful forms of entertainment but compare it to Siskel and Ebert and 99% of most yt review shows are better. They at least know what entertainment is conceptually. Siskel and Ebert were 'serious' and vague moralists and culture snobs that presented themselves flat and devoid of personality. Almost all modern review channels use some kind of gimmick, cartoon avatar, fake or cultivated personality trait or exaggeration and for better or worse attempt to entertain in the way they review through skits, jokes, or essay style political/philosophical discussion.
I'd say, honestly, in that company Critical Drinker is mid.
Siskel and Ebert were far more interesting whether it was shitting on a movie or praising one. They also didn't take six hours to shit out a mediocre take. The only one who'd go on cringe takes was Siskel when he had a stick up his ass. But part of the banter was sometimes Siskel would like something completely shitty on purpose to frick with Roger, or Roger vice-versa. And the entire premise of their show was them letting you know if it was worth dropping money on a film. Reviewers today don't have a fricking point. Critical Drinker offers nothing close to their analysis and his reviews don't mean shit. He's pretty much doing a sparknotes instead of telling you whether you should watch a movie.

I agree I don't know what happened maybe age, or maybe they're getting extremely formulaic with this garbage. There are a few I can sit through but every one I find that I do like either stops posting or are one of those channels where they do 2 vids a year.
