I'm a fan of the show but I wouldn't say it's good, it's mostly pretty mediocre

Why is the cat so mad. I wish my cat got mad. I wish he felt anything. I even put my hand in front of his eyes and get no reaction. It’s like he doesn’t care about anything, not even seeing the world.

Venture Bros is great and so is Lower Decks. A number of people worked on both shows.

If you don't like it by the end of season 1, you probably won't like it when it starts getting really good. As a kid what really turned me around on the show was Trial of the Monarch and the season finale was a ride. Then looking back I had a better appreciation for the rest of the season. The fact I though the series was over made Season 2 all the better

It never really gets good, you get invested into it. You start to get invested if you can watch passed the 1sr season, then you can begin to enjoy the play of show because it starts world building. It's the most anime of the adult swim shows as far as convoluted retconning world building.

Also it was very “of its time”. I first saw it in the late 2000s and thought it was hilarious and refreshing, I remember being surprised that they referenced Livejournal and the Porkchop Sandwiches GI Joe flash video etc, internet references were still kind of niche back then and it was for that kind of college nerd crowd

Idk. When I saw clips of later episodes it seemed kinda good. But while watching it it had weird kinda gross feeling to it that I couldn’t put my finger on. I think it was because it was obviously an homage to a bunch of old cartoons I never experienced myself. I guess it was never made for me

This is the problem. It's for people who grew up watching television. And you shitty little babies all grew up watching PewDiePie or some shit. If you didn't watch Muppet Babies when it was originally airing you can frick off.

Thing is that Venture Bros is all about the build up. You can't really skip any of the seasons, not even the mostly weak first one, because almost all of this will be brought up again.

You don't like the show, you like individual characters. It's like a mega ensemble cast where each episode covers a different weirdo.

The problem is that most aren't really funny. Most characters are another variation of nerdy dorky lame loser out of shape deadbeat father.
And because most characters drop from stabbing their toe, they gave all the action and slapstick to Brock Samson, who ends up being the most popular character.

I ended up watching the show just for Brock Samson, I liked how he became a surrogate father for the twins. When he left after season 4 because of va cost issues I hated it. Genuinely was the worst the show has to offer and I barely got through most episodes (it was during covid lockdown so I had nothing else to do)
Turns out I'm not alone, Brock is the only reason people watch the show. The seasons he's gone are the worst.

People just wanted to watch goofy Conan as a modern spy. The monarch was a fricking awful character to focus on.

the monarch worked perfectly in small doses, he could have had an episode or two in the series devoted to him, day to day minutae, would have been great if a little cliche
instead he's basically the second most important character (after brock), drives most of the plot forward, has intimate ties to multiple characters, and his schtick gets old

except then they shit on the audience for caring about said world--building
I never forgave them for ORB

I showed it to my gf and I don't think she really got hooked until the end of season 1. By mid season 2 she was completely into it, so you need to get through that rough first season.

The first season is a bit primitive, but I think its one of the rare shows where the later seasons retroactively improve the first season by how they build on it.
A lot of the humour early on doesn't really click since it's heavily character based and you really don't understand many of the main characters and their personalities that well until you are into season 2.
Even season by 7 they are still using plot points and references from the first season in a satisfying way.
