Raimi objected to this, and ultimately convinced the studio to give the part to Tobey Maguire after a round of screen tests. WTF was Raimi's problem?

For those who want to be part of this epic Cinemaphile forced meme there are three easy steps.

Step 1: This is considered the most important step. See what movie this epic Cinemaphile meme is being applied to today. Most of the time it's the older Sam Raimi Spiderman movies but since these threads die very fast the guys that force this apply it to other movies now. This thread however uses the Raimi Spiderman meme. Please pay attention.

Step 2: Take an iconic scene in the movie, any will do as long as people remember the scene. Greentext a quote from the scene and twist the words to use anti semitisim, racism, homophobia or any other edgy as frick topic. Go nuts, the sky is the limit! The more vulgar it is the more epic the meme is. This takes us to the final step.....

Step 3: Make a regular post, taking the position of a normal person and pretend to be disgusted by that scene. I know, I know, this is Cinemaphile, a site where gore flows like fine wine but that's what makes this meme edgy, wacky and zany. We pretend to be offended by that fake scene. Funny huh?

Now that you understand how to do this, have fun kids. Happy memeing!

Freddie is good looking but not much of an actor.
Seems best suited for Hallmark movies.

He's probably a great actor when the situation calls for it. He's genetically predisposed to acting. It's in his blood. But when he was a name he was young and attractive so instead of doing dramas nobody wanted to see, he did lame popular garbage like I Know what you did last summer and She's All That. Made his money, got a hot wife, and got the frick out. Fair play to Freddie if you ask me.

I've never read comics, but wasn't Peter Parker supposed to be a dorky kid, not the token school jock? Ofcourse Tobey was the better choice. Although they both look way too old for high schoolers

Parkers high school run was short. Most of the good shit happens when hes a college Chad.

Yeah. Because you couldn't just throw baggy clothes and some glasses on Freddie Prinze. I bet his spider-man voice would have been superior.

Venom is, at large, a very shit character that only looks cool and has his debut story as his single thing worth reading. There's a reason you can't find Eddie fans easily for how popular he is.

He didn't find him "human" enough like the Goblin and Doc Ock previously were.
You can make a good movie with the Venom premise though, Upgrade is an example of that. Sony just didn't manage.

He is hard to do in live action. Venom only works when the background color of an image is as visible as he is.

Same reason Paul Dini and Bruce Timm wanted little to nothing to do with Doomsday and Bane.
When a lot of these shows and movies were airing, the people working on the cape stuff typically hated the 90s characters and saw any character who originated in the decade as edgy schlock.

Bruce Timm for all the good he's done for the animation medium is a midwit when it comes to creating his own stories. And Bane is a good character, he's just never been portrayed like in the source material. Nolan came the closest but the performance was 50/50 at best.

            Anonymous

            >Bane is a good character
His only personality traits are his le ebin skillz because he can totally bench like 3 million tons and has an IQ of 5000 and figured out Batmans identity and broke his back and he has a cool mask and is built like the hulk
Compare him to somebody like Two-Face or Riddler who have actual personalities and it's clear why people think the 90s sucked.

Good choice. Freddie Prinze was a very iconic actor, he was good in all his roles, you love to see this guy on the screen. But he is such a weird pretentious butthole with his head up his ass. I've listened to him talk and he is insufferable. Very similar to Jamie Kennedy, the kind of guy that makes you go, oh yeah that guy was cool in that one movie, I wonder what he is up to now. And then you see him on some podcast ''exposing the secrets'' and whining constantly, talking shit about everyone, just being a diva acting like he was snubbed and their brilliant career got cut short when the problem was always them.
I wouldn't want to work with this guy. He may have been a good Spiderman, but Tobey is a cool guy and I'd work with him.

Would have prefered anyone other than Tobey. He was such a shit Peter Parker and such a non-threatening, unfunny Spider-Man. I don't know if it was due to Raimi's campy direction but a lot of Tobey's dialogue is delivered in such a weird hammy melodramatic way. Most people don't notice because the other actors run laps around his acting that it makes you forget what a shitty actor Tobey Mcguire really is. As a kid, I didn't notice because woo Spider-Man but having rewatched the movies recently it was so evident. Tobey Mcguire, James Franco, and Topher Grace were easily the worst parts of the Raimi Spider-Man movies. Every other actor does such a good fricking job. There is yet to be a great Peter Parker, and the only good Spider-Man was in the Amazing Spider-Man movies.
