Where did they go so wrong? Remember how they bankrupted Blockbuster and were the only King in streaming?

Where did they go so wrong? Remember how they bankrupted Blockbuster and were the only King in streaming? Now, without even a new technological advancement, they're going to go the same way as Blockbuster. Simply outcompeted straight up. Max is now the king of streaming, with Disney+ solidly in second place. Wtf? How could Netflix let this happen? Soon they'll be at the very bottom of the totem pole.

Got bought up by the globalist propagandists that are actively ruining our world. Pretty simple, really. I remember watching old black and white movies on Netflix with my gramps back in the day. Can barely find any classic movies on there nowadays

Don't care about your nerd numbers even if that's the case, Netflix churns out nothing but slop that no one watches these days. Their only meaningful IPs still standing are Stranger Things (will have one final season) and Wednesday. Max has a site loaded with not only HBO's own endless list of classics, but a far superior collection of movies. And this is before Harry Potter becomes the most popular tv show of all time. Netflix israelites can crunch whatever numbers they want, they're not doing better than Max or Disney+.

I don't watch either. doesn't change that in the real world netflix has more subscribers than any other service, they're the market leader by a mile and it's not going to change any time soon.

Max can't be doing all that well either, WB has started licensing HBO shows to Netflix. Netflix has programming problems, and charges way too much for very little quality content. People can't afford to subscribe to every streaming service and are realizing if they wait long enough they can eventually just watch everything they're interested in for free on services like Tubi.

No moron, I'm not high. They have by far the best streaming service, with a deep vault of undying classics like Sopranos and Game of Thrones and constant quality. Like I said, this is not even accounting for their far superior move library. Everyone has Max and watches Max. Everyone. Nowadays nobody watches Netflix, even though contrarian nerds like

I don't watch either. doesn't change that in the real world netflix has more subscribers than any other service, they're the market leader by a mile and it's not going to change any time soon.

will try to argue otherwise while simultaneously admitting they uh, don't watch it. When Stranger Things is over and Wednesday is all Netflix has will people still be subscribed for their cluttered inferior library and no promise of anything good? Meanwhile Max will be making Harry Potter, how do you think that will do? Hurr durr.

          >netflix 270m subscribers
          >disney+ 150m
          >max <100m

Many people are still subscribed out of habit. Try thinking beyond this present euphoric moment. Netflix has gone to shit and has no future. Almost every time they try to make something now it's shit. Their attempt at a Game of Thrones to revive their chances (The Three Body Problem) was a disaster. There's nothing they can do to avoid being overtaken within the next 5 years by Max in pure numbers. But I was never talking about the pure numbers. I was talking about the streets. Netflix is cold product. It's over. Do you get it yet?

you are correct in certain aspects, to the other posters, the subscriber count is not entirely meaningful in this case because disney+ is 150m worldwide, netflix is 270 worldwide, max is 97 only in the us and tukey, it is slowly rolling out elsewhere

second, a more important parameter to consider is the ARPU, the average revenue per user, netflix has an ARPU of $14, disney+ $9.5, max $11; this leads to some conclusions:

more max subscribers are either of the highest ad-free tier, or the ad value of max programming is higher compared to either netflix or disney+, which would be understandable as the weak currencies of india and china where a large chunk of netflix and disney+ consumers are based are primarily subscriber to the ad tier which pulls is of a lower overall value

Debt. They used to fund sovlful series, but they overexpanded their business and started bleeding money.
Now they're too far into debt and need to prostitute out their brand to BlackRock for cash.

they were built on debt from the beginning, they only started making money after they crossed the 200m subscriber mark.

    lmao even
Netflix has more subscribers than D+, Max, and Paramount+ combined.
The only thing that comes close to rivaling it is Amazon Prime Video, which is something I'd wager a majority of users have due to having Prime, not due to actively seeking out Prime Video and subscribing for just that.

max's library is the strongest and most varied out of all the streamers, it has the libraries of

    hbo
wb- movies and television (such as big bang theory, 2.5 men, friends)
    dc
    turner classic media
    a24
    cnn - for political docos

    adult swim
    studio ghibli
    hanna barbera / cartoon network

in addition, they have the discovery suite, with history channel, tlc, animal planet and many others
    cnn- for live news
    and live sports streaming

only disney+ with hulu and espn combined comes close

a lot of this stuff is already spread across netflix/disney/amazon in other markets though, so they might have a harder time expanding outside the US against the more established services.

The problem for Netflix is that they want every new series to be massively popular from the start to drawn in or keep people subscribed, which ofc can not be the case everytime. So instead they create many shittly low effort shows(mostly reality shows) that act as a guilty pleasure for people to keep them watching Netflix. But ofc they still want those new popular series but now they have even less money so even if a show is good they will still cancel it after one or two seasons without ever realizing its potential. Think about most series that became super successful, in the first few seasons they were not some hugely popular shows (e.g. Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Friends, Seinfeld) but they had potential and with time they got massive. This doesn't happen with Netflix.

As far as movies goes, they are desperately trying to compete with Disney and HBO for content like blockbusters, action movies and franchises when instead they need to be making more high quality cheaper narrative and character based movies (e.g. The Devil All the Time or Outlaw King) that over time will create a market segment for them to exploit and in which they are the leader.
