    >Speaking to this decision during a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Condal explained that House Velaryon was explicitly race-swapped because “It was very important for Miguel [Sapochnik] and I to create a show that was not another bunch of white people on the screen.”

“We wanted to find a way to put diversity in the show, but we didn’t want to do it in a way that felt like it was an afterthought or, worse, tokenism,” he added.

white people are a global minority with decreasing birth rates, so its just hatred. Imagine what life will be like for your grand kids, they will hunted in the street and have to become experts at battle

Imagine if instead of riding dragons, the Targaryens rode F-15s, do you think the show would deserve to have the threads talk about anything else but that

Do you ever wonder what GRRM honestly thinks of this shit
I doubt he could complain even if he wanted to, he's not that stupid enough to cancel himself

I think GRRM has enough tv writing experience to understand the process and demands made of the creators and doesn't take it very seriously. Then again he seems a bit detached from it all these days
it was clear that he (along with everyone else even including D&D) thought the later seasons of GoT were shit but he never outright said anything outside of a few critiques here and there
he has some quote circling around that he initially considered making the Valyrians black and Targaryens black conquerors of Westeros but I don't really believe that and it's just him pandering

he might have really wanted to make them black originally. his 1986 novella the glass flower has a black cyborg with silver-white hair as main character

I suppose it's possible, I've always thought the setting comes off as being the setting from one of his roleplaying settings when he was younger that was probably worked on for years as there's hints of other things that I doubt will ever come up in the series. Maybe he envisioned Valyria as part of the Summer Isles originally
in any case, him saying it is still pandering as it isn't relevant to the reasons they casted the Velaryons that way (I'm positive)
