Probably being used by the neighbor kids. Eddy uses him but at least their friendship is genuine.

Edd seems the most accepted by the other kids, and even Kevin could be friendly to him at moments. Like in "Luck of the Ed" when he and Kevin have a friendly chat & laugh.

Ed wouldn't be as accepted, but he'd do OK. He and Johnny actually seemed like buddies sometimes, so they'd probably hang out more.

I feel like Double D would be the main target of Kevin’s bullying if Eddy weren’t around. Eddy looks bad by comparison so that meant Edd got picked on less. Double D would pretty much be the definition of a nerd in Kevin’s eyes.

        >I feel like Double D would be the main target of Kevin’s bullying if Eddy weren’t around.
Why? He's shown to get along with Kevin and the rest of the kids just fine when he's not with Eddy, and he's never bullied Jimmy for being for being weak or little.

Kevin has picked on Jimmy though, just only in the moment.

Even Nazz wasn’t exempt from Kevin’s crap. Kevin kind of treated her like shit in the movie, albeit unintentionally.

And Johnny is an autistic freak and so is Rolf in some cases, but he invites them go-carting. Jimmy is a sissy, but he still defends him when Mr.YumYum was lost. Just because Kevin is a jock, doesn't make him a bully, dork.

He never bullied Jimmy as much because he knew Sarah would kick his ass if he tried anything.

            Anonymous

I feel like Jimmy was the sort of kid where there was kind of an unspoken rule against bullying him. He was too easy of a target, and only a true butthole would single him out. Of course, in reality he was a diabolical little shit who hid behind Sarah's unholy Ed family strength... but very few characters knew that side of him existed.

            Anonymous

In that case, you'd think Kevin wouldn;t bully the Eds so often considering how Ed could easily kick Kevin's ass if he was determined to. Even ignoring the pebble in his shoe episode, Ed has shown on numerous occasions he's massively stronger and more durable than Kevin, so Kevin literally couldn't do a thing if Ed was determined to fight back.

Lucky for Kevin that Ed's too much of a happy go lucky simpleton to do anything except take thr beating when Kevin's had enough of the Eds' shit.

Frankly, they'd be social outcasts, but primarily on the level of Johnny 2x4. Double D is very amicable and would easily get along with the other kids in the cul-de-sac, but I don't think they'd find him a legitimate friend who'd share mutual interests in. Most of his hobbies and interests are either too mature or nerdy for the rest of his peers. I could see Rolf or Kevin calling him over when they need something fixed or to talk shop about engineering, but they'd never ask him to toss the pigskin considering he's a scrawny weakling. Ed would probably have it worse in that regard since he's not only the type to normally go at life at his own pace, he's got zero to no filter on his mouth. He'd be the lug you invite over to a party cause of how nice he is, then kick out when he's talking about the last slasher film he saw in far too much detail and makes Jimmy faint. Maybe he'd get along with Johnny to an extent, but otherwise he'd be stuck babysitting Sarah and Jimmy most of the day because his mom wants him out of the house and doing stuff.

To be honest, Eddy's probably their only real shot at a close friendship for something beyond dragging them along on their scams for a very big reason; Dude shares their more nerdy interests, particularly with being into the same kind of sci-fi schlock and comic books as they are. They had a whole episode of just them dicking around in a garbage dump pretending to be sci-fi rebels and another episode one where they were lurching around trying to find a television to watch a b-movie marathon. Even if they downplayed it in the later seasons to focus on the scams, I imagine the Eds probably spend downtime lurking around the outback of the cul-de-sac yakking about comic books and b-movies and debating whether Superman or Spider-Man would win in a fight.

In that episode where everybody was trying to get rid of Johnny, even Ed could only handle so much of Johnny at a time. Maybe Ed and Johnny could hang out for a while, but eventually Johnny would start to wear on Ed's nerves the same way he does everyone.

    >Ed
Swapping between being a neet in his basement and helping Rolf with his farm. Rolf genuinely likes Ed, best case scenario is he joins Jimmy and Johnny as an Urban Ranger.

    >Double D
Surprisingly similar to Ed, in that without Eddy, they don't really have much of a reason to leave their house. Double D is a shut in but I could see him being just the broad spectrum acquaintance to the other kids. People think he'd be the main target of Kevin, but one of Kevin's characteristics is the ball breaking of people he hangs around.

Accepted by the other kids, like in the episode when he thought he was dying of some fake disease and the other kids asked him if he wanted to go to the beach with them. Probably occasionally dunked on for his quirks like Johnny, Jimmy, Rolf. Ed would be mocked for his stupidity but tolerated for his kindness.

  6. 2 years ago

They wouldn't really have the drive to leave their houses and get up to more interesting shit without Eddy, so they'd still be outcasts, just slightly more accepted by the cul-de-sac kids. They'd probably be about as popular as Jonny.

Edd's a scrawny, arrogant goody-two-shoes with OCD so he'd probably still get bullied by Kevin, and he wouldn't have as much of an opportunity to utilize his engineering skills without Eddy's scams.

Ed would either be Sarah's henchman or one of the Urban Rangers. He'd be nowhere near as popular as Edd due to his disgusting habits and lack of intelligence, but he'd probably spend most of his time with Rolf, either helping out at the farm or tending to the chickens.

In short, without Eddy the cul-de-sac would be more peaceful, but also more boring.

      >In short, without Eddy the cul-de-sac would be more peaceful, but also more boring.

I like this explanation, there is a good reason why Ed and Double D stuck around and why the other kids kept giving Eddy's scams attention. For all his faults he made the cul-de-sac way more interesting.

A better place. But honestly its mainly just because of Eddies brother. If he hadn't basically scared the kids into a subconscious sort of barrier keeping the Eds from being nothing but really acquaintances to most of the kids it probably would've been like the end of the move. I highly doubt Eddy would've been scamming kids with half the time were solid effort ploys not really scams to get jawbreakers if Kevin was just giving the Eds some randomly here and there and they all hung out together and shared anyways.

But without him considering the brother thing i guess like everyone else? But its hard to say Eddies situation was entirely his fault. Maybe with Sarah/Jimmy since Sarah didn't fear his brother in the episode they pretended he existed from being too young to remember. But Sarah is shit.

A lot of this thread is discussing the relation those two would have with the other kids, but I would be curious about their own friendship. They were shown to be extremely close friends despite being polar opposites, and I wonder if they would gravitate towards each other without Eddy's influence. For as much shit as they got for hanging with Eddy, he did bring them together and it was one of the nicer things he did before the finale.

You really like to based your judgement on Kevin huh? Sarah has a crush on Double D, Rolf likes a strong farmhand like Ed, Jimmy sees both of them as older brother figure, Nazz is nice to everyone, and Johnny would actually be the outcast.

Most of the kids' personalities attitudes towards the Eds vary between episodes to be fair

Sarah can spare Edd from her wrath or give him the same contempt she has for Ed and Eddy
Rolf is either fascinated by Ed's strength and personality or annoyed at his stupidity/him messing with his chickens
Jimmy either likes Ed and Edd or hates all three of them
Nazz occasionally joins in on laughing at the Eds even when they've done nothing wrong
Johnny's usually the most friendly to the Eds, tied with Rolf when he's in a good mood

Eddy was the only reason that cul-de-sac was interesting at all. Think about it. without Eddy, what would be there to see?

    >Kevin riding his bike around the lane with Nazz for the 1000th time
    >Sarah and Jimmy having tea parties
    >Ed laying around in his filthy basement watching shitty horror movies
    >Double D spending all of his time in his room studying his ant farm and measuring the circumference of his dong
    >Rolf doing manual labor in his farm
    >Jonny talking to an inanimate piece of wood
    BORING.

Eddy may have had bad intentions, but at least he had a lot of imagination and wasn't content doing the same thing every day. He helped get Ed and Double D out of their houses and forced them to interact with each other every day, which is definitely a reason why they're so close despite being polar opposites. I can't imagine Double D being willing to stay in the same room as Ed if Eddy never existed.
