While Jason's core design may be iconic, his actual movies are anything but. His movie are tiringly samey on average and have one of the lowest overall quality averages of any major horror icon. His best movies are 2009 remake and Freddy vs. Jason. So while I can agree with your statement in purely literal terms, it also obscures Jason's place in the horror pantheon. He and his film are more commonly known through pop culture references, largely because the derivative nature of the Friday films caused them to assume stand in status for the slasher subgenre at large. Vanishingly few people have actually seen a full Friday film, and far fewer still have really enjoyed one if they are being honest with themselves and not just donning reference for the mask as a subcultural signifier.

I think there's more iconic movies but not necessairly better overal quality in the movies. Saw VI and 3D were complete ass but I can not sit through some of the Friday the 13th Movies at all.

Yeah Freddy is a good rival but he is declining and suffering Freddy vs. Jason style. He can't come back if no one remembers him, he can't come back if no one is afraid. At the same time it's clear many people on this very board are afraid of Jigsaw.
