Men In Black holds up in its witty script and dry humor. It's leagues beyond WWW and BB.

Men in Black is very good. Great franchise starter.

But Bad Boys has more Will Slick, which is a version I think people love to see deep down. Brash and unapologetically wienery. But good.

I kind of wish this version of Will Smith got to work with Brad Pitt because I thought that was the rub Pitt needed to round him out as a stage presence. Then again, we got Paul Walker, at least for a while. PW is very Californian though.

Wild Wild West needs some slightly invasive surgery to be an all time great. It needed to lean heavier into Mel Brooks type absurd racial farce. Imagine a Matt Berry playing the villain or the villain's sidekick and dropping Black person in his multi-accented lilt. It would have been so bizarre that it would have been absolutely hilarious. Kevin Kline is great at physical comedy, but he could have then played up the Gene Wilder aspect consoling Bart. It could have been bizarrely wholesome, especially if you close it out with Hayeck dropping some racial slurs of her own.

Anyway, the final answer is Independence Day. It transcends itself. Independence Day is probably one of the clearest examples of New Sincerity in film that I can think of where it does what was previously ironic with a sense of love and pathos.

Man, Téa Leoni was a smokeshow in Bad Boys.

      >Great franchise starter.

No, Men In Black was a great film but it would have been even better if it was a standalone film. The first Jurassic Park film, the first Bayformers film and the first Matrix film would have also been better as standalone films. But I guess in Hollywood, making money is more important than artistic integrity.

tue but bad boys 2 was something that worked, it worked really well, sometimes films are almost just concepts of what the creator is trying to achieve, the perfect example is el mariachi and desperado, desperado is the film he wanted to do, el mariachi is the thing he had the budget to do

I never thought MiB or The Matrix were great pieces of art. I will say the production came together extremely well for both. Great movies with great performances and tech, undoubtedly.

MiB, based on a comic, was a Will Smith vehicle at the height of his fame back by a lead song that he himself recorded. If the movie were released in the 80s, we'd be playing with Agent Smith and Agent K toys instead of TMNT to this day.

I dont think a franchise is necessarily a lack of integrity if you can get good work out of it. It depends on the product. The Rocky series is phenomenal on the hole, and even the Creed movies, which I find unnecessary, are both still connected to Rocky in universe, but also go by a different name. Very smart.

The thing is, Rocky isn't going to easily give itself to tons of toys. Maybe the first or second year of release, but nothing perennial.

A Men in Black could do that though. As could a Matrix, or a Bayformer.

We're talking about Will Smith movies. They're all so bad, Wild Wild West is literally the best he can do.
