lol all the people who watched that garbage because it wasn't the Star Trek show with the black woman and gay people had to grit their teeth and go "t-t-the troony episode is because this has the spirit of real Star Trek guys"

Your short answer is The Snoreville sucked so bad it lost 75% of it's viewers by Episode 2 of the 1st season, then by halfway thru, it lost another half of viewers.

Season 2 was even worse, with your local weatherman doing better numbers.

That is why it got cancelled and dumped off into Hulu-land, where nobody is watching it now.

              SNW however, doing great numbers.

              RIP nepotism Seth.

Who cares if it has gay alien shit?
It's usually relevant to the plot. It's basically treated like they are a genderless species which is interesting.
Prior to the culture war, people would just say "cool, reptile people". It's even played for laughs
I hate when this shit is forced like in Picard, but those characters are there to reinforce the idea other cultures are entirely different from ours. Despite being gay aliens, their planet is very traditional.
It is hard for the crew to understand and adapt to and that is the idea.
It's peak Trek that way. And I hate all NuTrek

          Yes. You can.

And the SNW showrunners aren't responsible for what Lower Decks or any other nuTrek show does so you can stop trying to drag that gay bronie cartoon into every discussion just because you're seething about nuTrek generally.

It's a parody of the TNG episode where Barclay is addicted to the Holodeck. Since it's played more for laughs in S2, they made it a reference to modern day porn addiction
Filtered and unable to understand media. Actually moronic.

      >but STD made me loose all interest in '''Star Trek''' so I never watched it.
No nuTrek has ever made me think it was Star Trek. Data's dream sequences and the Riker reunion in Picard came close, but not quite. It just seems like an entirely different IP, so I don't get triggered. Pic related showed up. They told me it was "Kirk" and yet I felt nothing. He was just some rando captain interacting with the SNW crew. I dont see myself going back and rewatching SNW but it was ok disposable entertainment. Felt the same way about JJ's "Star Trek" movies.

        Anonymous

        >ok disposable entertainment
Yeah, guess that's the big problem. I remember Star Trek as the argue about it with your sister and dad for two hours afterwards entertainment. Orville still fits this.

          Anonymous

          >Orville still fits this.
It's still too stupid. The Orville doesn't prompt any discussion apart from all the plot holes taking away from the "moral". You could tell they wanted people to react that way with the last episode, but everything up to the "moral dilemma" is so stupid it's impossible to take that seriously.

            Anonymous

Agreed, the bad parts in Orville are extremely annoying. I still fail to see enough good parts in the alternnatives that would make them even worth watching for the star trek kind of entertainment.

The entire series is half-assed story and worldbuilding. It's just an excuse to flex at how they can make a show in the vein of TNG. It's why every episode has absurdly over-done CGI shots and ridiculously over-the-top score. It's way "better" than it needs to be because the people making it are just showing off. I dont need to hear le ebin score when someone is docking a shuttle or walking up a flight of stairs.

Orville does ST better, SNW is better produced. SNW has the feel of good ST, but the stories are empty. Like they mimic what good star trek is supposed to be, but the stories being told don't really hit the right notes. It's all just fluff. I also don't get why they have to make 90% of the crew women.

The cynical answer is that no one wants to put their best ideas forward for a doomed, knock-off show. That's why everything feels generic and uninspired.

All the war stuff is from DS9. TNG's conflicts even against the borg were kept at a minimum. Kaylon and Krill are closer to Dominion and Jem'hadar. The family dynamics are also closely modeled after Sisko and not Worf.

As pointed out, Orville is now under Disney. Meaning it's just going to be more boring slop that takes no risks. Basically explains the trans episode as well, just mindless virtue signaling without any subtlety or intelligence.

SNW is easy to dismiss as "not really Star Trek" but good golly miss molly they knocked the CGI out of the park. This season was absolutely gorgeous for a "tv show". The 4K HDR was jaw dropping.

Garbage excuse, if they had used the same camera quality as TNG that would be one thing but they obviously had a bigger budget and leaned into higher resolution but wasted most of it on Star Wars battles that still looked like trash. Also you clearly weren't paying attention to Orville because many times other ships were sacrificing themselves for the Orville and the webm posted above was when some of the Kaylon ships had broken through the line and the Union ships were chasing them down, sonof course they'd need to fly close together as they'd be converging to the same straight course.

                >no you see they should be flying within spitting distance of each other because
Nope. Nothing you say can justify this. Converging on the same target does not mean crashing into each other, you are a dumb frick.

                Anonymous

I never said it did. They only crashed because they got exploded in a close vicinity, which has happened before in TNG and DS9 too.

                >They only crashed because they got exploded in a close vicinity,
Lmao watch the scene. They're so close they literally collide into each other when one is knocked off balance. This should never fricking happen and you're either an idiot or a shill if you believe it should. Show me where this happened in Trek.

Because they were converging on the same intercept course, fastest being a straight line, to protect the Kaylon ships from nuking earth.

It is when you have to close a short distance. If you took a curved flanking course earth would be blown up by the time it took you the extra distance

There's literally no reason for ships to travel in close enough formation to collide with one another, especially in space.

Except when speed takes priority, as in the case when the Kaylons broke through the line of ships defending earth.
... or if ships like the Orville contained the vital secret weapon needed to neutralize the threat and the other ships were acting as a shield to cover against fire (ship collision is preferable to direct hit and being destroyed.
... or any hundreds of scenarios you can come up with in a scifi scenario, brainlet.

But its sort of like last episode's dramatic scene, how is The Orville supposed to have these cool scenes if they don't do a bunch of dumb shit leading up to it? Start with a cool scene or concept and just work backwards from there!

Ok, so SNW easily wins the cgi.
I guess all nu trek and wannabe trek (and trek) has equally moronic moments in technological accuracy.
So that leaves writing, acting and storis/ideas, who wins those?

SNW also wins in the acting department and overall execution/writing. Orville has decent scifi concepts, but only when it's directly ripping off TNG/VOY.

SNW wins jack shit. The guy saying the cgi was better thinks grimdark + lens flare and cinematic dutch angles = good cgi. Rewind back to when JJ Abrams trek came out that was the main criticism trekkies had against it.
Orville CGI is unironically better because it's in fact closer to TNG/DS9.

You can only say bad cgi = better trek-style sci-fi if it means the money was pulled from good acting and writing. Otherwise it's irrelevant.

It's not just her and Lamar. Then there is a scene with Claire and Isaac, then the plot of the episode which is the crew becoming a matriarchy.

*oh yeah, and a nuclear family with a 1950's white-coded family owning a Kalon as a slave and treating him like shit just for fun.

Your mind is warped by pornography if you see a black dude kiss someone and your mind goes right to interracial gay cuck porn
              Based and closetpilled

She's black. Watch Gossip Girl (no homo) she was really black in it.
Don't know why she looks white now.

I just like the fact that everyone in SNW are actually in shape kek. even fricking uhura grew on me and find her kinda attractive after a couple of episodes. that's just good portrayal which no amount of woke can destroy

Holy shit i'm watching the new episode of The Orville. This might be the most pozzed episode yet. Starts out with 2 interracial scenes then turns into all the women characters cucking and dominating the men characters and I'm not even 10 minutes in.

    This is bad.

My only interaction with orville was walking into the room and watching 3 minutes of it wherein everything looked so fricking cheap, awful cgi, awkward acting and the captain was talking about his boyfriend. Idk how you gays can stomach that show.

trek is irredeemable after their headfirst dive into Black woman worship and socjus nonsense. All I saw was space battles and melodrama. No one sane sat through more than 2 episodes of nutrek. the people writing these shows have no idea what else to do since DSN.
