On the other hand Rebecca is behind the push to make the show more emotional, and is probably to blame for the show devolving into character shipping ( PB and Marceline specifically.)
These two in my opinion are the main reason the show became so awful.

That's more a case if it starts post 2012. If it started before, then it's often a matter of someone coming along to change the formula.
Whether you like it or nor Rebecca tried to give AT a central direction to go towards in her short tenure. When she left, Pendleton couldn't be asked to guide the ship and the story boarders decided they each had a diffrent vision of what AT should be with no real direction and thus a lot of shit that went nowhere.
There WAS a central direction, Sugar fricked it and the rest of the show was trying to recover from that tampering. Fricking Finn and Marceline outright stopped interacting after S4 in order to prevent fans from shipping them so Bubbline could be preserved.

Why does Cinemaphile still have no idea how cartoons are made. Moynihan storyboarded the episode, but he did not write the story outline. The decision to have Finn's arm grow back was not made by him.

Of all the stupid decisions made over the course of the show, THAT'S what you feel the need to mention?
Neither. Both did some great episodes.
The problem was Pendleton Ward not knowing what to do with its own series beyond S2 and just letting storyboarders coming up with entire storylines which would be entirely dropped by different storyboarders. It made a show that was so drastic in change of tone, in one episode it was melodramatic as frick and in another moment it was all about tarots and psychedelic shit.

Screwing Finn over was what killed the show. People will always b***h and moan about "Finncels", but they refuse to face the facts. If a show is willing to go this far to frick its main character, it only goes to show how poorly handled it is. Imagine if Ben 10 had made Ben into a frick-up who had to have Gwen defeat the end-game villain for him, or if Samurai Jack had Ashi get the final blow on Aku while Jack sits on the sidelines, defeated. Shit wouldn't fly.

They did a bunch of interesting shit with side characters and absolutely nothing good with Finn. The only trait he developed over time was being more horny. He got shipped but all of those relationships failed so it was unsatisfying. And he was a rock all along or something stupid.
They had how many seasons to write him and he was unlikeable and boring compared to everything and everyone else.
