Toy Story 2 by far. In fact, Shrek 2 is an overrated, boring, unfunny, outdated, visually unnapealing, manipulative and vapid piece of garbage. Also annoying villains, the only good thing is puss in boots, the rest is trash, one of the worst DreamWorks efforts, vastly inferior to Antzand the first Shrek.

What was the deal between Harold as a frog and Fairy Godmother? She turns him into a human and if he someday has a daughter with another human, then have an arranged marriage between his daughter and Fairy Godmother' son?

If that's the case, then i assume Harold as a frog was already interesed in Lillian, so that's why he asked Godmother to make him a human. Godmother saw a chance to make Charming into Far Far Away king someday and thus gave Harold the condition of arranged marriage in the future if he wants to become human and thus king (Lillian was a princess). The film doesn't quite specify if this is how things went down, but it was probably like that.

In the first movie fiona also says she was cursed by a witch but you could take it that it was fairy godmother who turned her into an ogre as a guarantee for charming to marry her.

      >turn him into human
      >make him king via marriage
      >Fairy Godmother sets up her lineage to have a slice of the pie she gave him

      Seems pretty self-explanatory.

    >Only true love's kiss would lift her curse. So Fiona waited in a tower, guarded by a dragon, until the day when her true love would arrive. But as the days turned into years...

    >What choice do we have? Fiona has been locked away in that tower far too long
Why did Charming wait so long before going to rescue Fiona? How did that benefit him or Godmother?

TS2' lore expansion is far more simple. We just find out Woody is merchandise of a character from a 50s puppet show that got cancelled due to kids growing more interested on space toys after Sputnik launch, that Woody is an old family toy on the Davis family, and that he's extremely rare in the late 90s.

    >Did Woody give up when Sid had me strapped to a rocket?
TS2 mentions Sid. Shrek 2 never mentions Farquaad (and it had a chance to do so on the joke with a small bush resembling a person)

      >"There's that bush that's shaped like Shirley Bassey"
      >"We passed that bush 3 times already"
      Should've been Farquaad instead

Shrek 2 has a vast leg up on Shrek 1. TS2 is only marginally better than the original to the point where I can see where one would prefer TS1. So I guess I'd pick Shrek 2 for being better executed. Not sure if I'd say it's better than TS2 as a film though, they're pretty different.

    >A Bug's Life (november 1998)
    >Toy Story 2 (november 1999)

    >Shrek 2 (may 2004)
    >Madagascar (may 2005)
Pixar and PDI did both films at the same time. You judge which is the better duo.

I see many of the positive sides of Toy Story 2, but I can't help but feel it's inferior to 1. My favorite part of 1 is the dynamics and comedy between Woody and Buzz. I love how they contrast so much: one of them being an butthole, and one of them being deluded. 2 took away a lot of that edge and the perfect pairing. Woody is more normal, and Buzz is no longer crazy. Which is boring. The characters were kinda already solved in the first film and the resolution that it built to in that movie was so good and satisfying. I don't mind the versions of 2, but I think it's obviously such a downgrade. They aren't together most of the time either. Just in terms of comedy and action, I much prefer 1 over 2. Also, this might be an autistic thing from me, but I never cared much Bullseye. Slinky is way cooler as Woody's bro.

Reminder that Shrek 1 has better looking animation than Shrek 2. It's just a more enjoyable film to look at.

    Toy Story 2
Shrek has the "I need a hero" bit, but that can't carry a movie.

I Need a Hero scene isn't perfect. It has some corny stuff (milk from a barrel poured on a cauldron and quickly heated up with a machine)

Should've been a slightly longer film. Feels a bit cramped.
