So far it's Chalamet, Sydney Sweeney, Jenna Ortega and that's it. The others are inorganic or failed industry plants.

None of these people have been in a successful movie.
Chalamet has been in arthouse bullshit and financially meh stuff like Dune.
Sweeney and Ortega have been in... What successful, cinematically released stuff?
'Reality' was arthouse, and 'Babysitter: Killer Queen' was released on Netflix.

      tl;dr - what a dumb answer

Dune and Scream are successful franchises. Wednesday and X made Jenna additionally famous among 2 different demographics. Chalamet's Wonka will have a major December release.
Sydney has become Euphoria's biggest star despite attempts to push Zendaya and the troony. All three of them are ubiquitous in ads, mag covers etc and have many mainstream projects lined up.

Kek. So your embarrassingly moronic rationale is that Jenna/Sydney are not movie stars bc they've done successful tv series? Just like Clooney and Bruce Willis before them?

No bc neither of them are marketable on the same level of celebrity these three have. A movie star is made by a certain sexual aura which in turn makes them appealing to arthouse and mainstream directors/luxury brands and the fashion world/ and coomers.

Evidently you don't know what a star is. Like you don't know what an actual movies is. Or a woman

movie stars were a specific cultural phenomenon that does not exist anymore. the last person ever to become a movie star was leonardo dicaprio. you can still act in movies, you can still play guitar, you can still get rich and famous in the process but you can't be a "movie star" or a "rock star" because those were 20th century phenomena and the industries that produced them no longer operate that way. calling chalamet a movie star is like calling the president of egypt a pharaoh.

The star system has shrunk. Still, within the group of more recent stars some have more personal appeal than others, and this is a structure that's still being consolidated.
ATJ for instance had a couple of misses and Furiosa could be a defining moment in her career. But some others took the forefront and will remain there if they play their cards right. They won't be massive box office draws as before but will be popular enough

              >more recent stars some have more personal appeal than others,
Yeah, in a way Michael Dudikoff had more appea than Jeff Speakman.
point still stand. No actual stars

No. In the way that Chalamet has more appeal than, say, Finn Wolfhard

you don't get it at all. it's not about how much money they make, it's about how people relate to them. do you think the difference between a pharaoh and a president is income?

                Anonymous

Who are you to say people don't relate and/or don't deam about being or dating/fricking Jenna Ortega for instance?

                Anonymous

jesus christ you're dense. it's precisely because jenna ortega is your imaginary girlfriend that she is not and can never be a "movie star." marilyn monroe wasn't some chick you imagined fricking, she was sex itself, she was larger than life. a peasant couldn't imagine becoming a pharaoh but anyone can imagine getting elected president. you don't get it because you were raised on the 21st century parasocial model of celebrity and you don't know anything else.

Forget it autist. You missed the boat and are trying to hold on to a system that no longer exists on the same scale but still persists in the same way it always did: magnetism, charisma, marketability. Go be stupid somewhere else

                >a system that no longer exist

again, the difference between a pharaoh and a president isn't "scale." you're stupid as frick. ask a parent to walk you through my posts.

                I'll quote myself:
                >a star system that no longer exists on the same scale
It still remains but not as massively, but you're obviously too undersocialized to grasp that so you cling to the low IQ cope that the entire star system is over.
These upcoming stars are paid millions of dollars to star in movies whose publicity campaigns/ pressers etc heavily rely on them. Their draw is smaller than Cruise's, but it still exists in an economically significant way

your little idiot brain is going in circles. i already told you the difference isn't money, i already told you the difference isn't scale. what is the difference between a president and a pharaoh, anon? think before you answer.

                Anonymous

The difference is that you're an autist and your president/pharaoh analogy is moronic, not least because actors nowadays command much more power and influence because of socia media which they use for publicity, career/image placement, campaigning and opining on various subjects

There's no proper men anymore. Zoomers have even less testosterone than millennials, which had less than Gen X, have you seen 25 year old guys these days? They look like they're like 15 years old.

There are no gen z stars because gen z fundamentally do not understand movies as a medium. If you have any integrity, you would blacklist anyone born late 90s onwards from the industry until the babies that are being born today can take over, zoomers excluded of course.

Movies these days are just one type of video people "consume". Movie stars are competing with social media influencers and streamers. However you still have music stars (eg. Taylor Swift)
