Who is Iman Vellani?
NOTE: I like the girl and I have nothing against her. All the best to her. This is just a bunch of questions that I have regarding the industry.
I was wasting time on instagram when I came across thois picture that said: "DID YOU KNOW... Iman Vellani is the first actress withouth any acting experience that was cast in a Marvel main role?"
I was like... wait a minute, that can't be right.
Casting people with no acting experience whatsoever is something student films do, nit multi billion dollar companies, specially not for a main role.
So doing a bit of research all I could find is that Vellanni got the casting call through a "whatsapp message that her aunt sent her". That's it. That's all the information I could find.
A whatsapp message? For a Disney+/Marvel main role? What kind of aunt is that? DOes the aunt work for Disney or a major casting agency? So many questions.
Usually it takes actors years of experience before they can even get a chance to be in those casting tests.
So who is Iman Vellani? Where did she even come from? Did Disney really gamble a multi million dollar series on their main platform on someone they didn't know just because "she had a lot of Marvel stuff in her room" (quote from the producers of the show).
So who is Iman Vellani? Where did she come from? What does her family do? Having seen the inner working of the industry myself, I just dont buy the story they're trying to sell to us.

They generally use their money to cast a wide net and narrow down the candidates to the best option. 1500 kids auditioned for Spider-Man. All they were really looking for is
>Muslim
>Can pass for teenager
After that it's just more auditions and screentests. You can see these kinds casting calls going up all the time
But Tom Holland had tons of high-level acting experience before Spider-Man, including The Impossible and that other Ron Howard film.
Yeah I don't like the angle they are giving her: "IMG she's just such a super fan who texts Kevin Feige to argue about the MCU all the time! She's just like one of us!" It's becoming predictable.
Because Tom Holland was the best choice for the role, obviously his acting experienced helped him be ready for it.
A spin off tv show about a D List character is also not as big of a deal as Spider-Man, where are all these teen Muslim actors with stage experience and movies under their belt? Also with MCU's Punisher to help with their auditions.
Ms. Marvel is definitely not as big as Spider-Man, but the series has a budget of over 10 million per episode. Again, I doubt they'd leave the success of the series on a girl who's never been in a shooting set before.
Also there's tons of Muslim actors with experience!
Name them, literally who are they going to cast who would do a better job
Give me the casting budget they had and I'll deliver them to your doorstep.
>can't name them
What is the point of this post? They hired who they thought was the best choice, it's not complicated. You are acting as if there are muslim teens with extensive filmographies under their belt. Name one actress
Mate, I'm a producer. I've actually worked with Disney before. That's exactly why this is puzzling to me.
You seem to think they only went for two things: "muslim & can pass as a teenager", and you think they found only 1 girl?? And they were like "she doesn't have any acting experience but frick it! She is the only muslim teenager in the world!"
Also, no producer has a list of muslim actors (or any other actors) in their head. That's why casting agencies exist. That's why it's such an expensive process.
They do auditions moron, she was the best
And how did she even get that audition? Saw it on her high school newspaper did she?
Man so many kids in here
See how they spar without any real input of there own? You are probably right.
See how his claims are not only vague, but actively make no sense, such as claiming the only way to see a casting call is in the "local newspaper".
He said high school newspaper. Learn to read.
>operates purely on "they replied, that means I'm right somehow"
>Operates purely on "they auditioned she was the best" without anything to back up said claims.
How about "How casting calls work"?
Disney doesn't cast the best. You assume she's the best because she has the role Disney can't do shit right. But you just know it was on merit? Well since we're pulling assumptions out of our asses I say she got the role because she's really good at eating pussy.
I see the show, and see the actress is quite charming and likable. More so than a number of their leads in other films and shows in the MCU. I am drawing from that an assumption (and not a baseless one) that this also came across in her audition, and is why she was cast despite being fairly chubby and average looking. I'm not the casting agent, but seeing her in the show, it's not difficult to see why someone like her might have been cast over probably better looking auditions that nonetheless didn't seem like they could carry a teen series. I'd also factor in that their casting call would have featured a lot of non-actors because again, it's a specific demographic they have to cast and it's not one that has a huge population of known actresses.
You seem to throw out loud conclusions constantly and assume others are doing that too. Disney by and large have cast well in their Marvel productions, a ew duds aside. It's pretty clear a strength of theirs is their casting department.
you tried to go no u but your response is complete nonsense
Lol they don’t do open “auditions” like some sort of small town play.
It’s a long and well-researched casting process. My guess is that her family is in the industry. Simple as that.
Tell us who her family is then.
There is still a casting call, it's not a cinderella story where she seen an ad in the paper but it's a wide ass net
She didn't see that add in the paper. She said her aunt got her the info abut the casting.
Wow, her aunt saw they were casting a Muslim Pakistani teen and said "maybe you should audition". What a tangled web of espionage.
Yes, that's how Disney cast main roles for the multi million dollar series. They just post an add on the local newspaper.
I give up. You already made up your mind before you made this thread.
Could you stop going on about newspapers like you're a 55 year old sipping coffee?
>that's how Disney cast main roles for the multi million dollar series
I don't even know what this is meant to be saying. "They wouldn't leave the casting to a newcomer! That's why they cast this newcomer!". What? She is a newcomer that hasn't acted in anything before. What's supposed to be suggested here? That they won't stake a lead role on someone with the best audition who demonstrates a lot of charisma, but they will on...some vague idea of this random girl's family MUST be in the industry and therefore we must cast her because uh...conspiracy!
Watching the show, it's not hard to see how she got cast. She isn't a beauty, but she is very charming and likable, that would easily come across in an audition. As others have already pointed out, there's no big well of existing talent that fits the show's very specific requirements.
Yes, her aunt saw a public listing idiot
You have no idea how the world works. Back to the basement for you.
"Not an abunance" =1 actress. Yes Ok.
Oh its a bait thread i get it now
Yeah because she got the job she must have been the only one who applied. Fricking moron.
Who the flying frick said it was one actress? The point being made was you can't just look at a load of actresses out there when it's such a specific demographic, you need to do wide auditions. Many, MANY younger roles in film and TV wind up going to newcomers because you're going to see some kid that really sells it in auditions. Another role you're already going to have several known actors in mind, like Hailee Steinfeld was pursued for the Kate Bishop role for ages. But this one you have to cast a Pakistani Muslim teenage girl, and there is no huge number of actresses fitting that. It was nearly inevitable they had to cast a newcomer who just did the best audition.
You don't know how the entertainment industry works even a little bit and it's hilarious to watch you sperg out about this. Keep going please.
They do a million auditions moron. Over zoom now to filter out people. They said they looked at thousands of auditions.
She doesn't have any family in the industry, her family just saw a casting call.
They do that with niche roles like this (teenage pakistani-american female) is a pretty small pool. The same thing happened with the lady who plays Echo in hawkeye, there was just an open casting call and she gave it a shot. Though iman is a better actor than her.
They basically do though, but just like you don't see auditions for a play one town over you aren't seeing these auditions listed for Marvel. If you look or enquire you can find them
casting companies will have listings for public auditions all the time Idk what you're talking about
Imagine thinking Disneyd oes public listings for a Marvel main role
>main role
They do
They essentially do yeah, they probably had 500+ auditions for this role anon
Why not? Not like there are many Muslin actresses.
they do, they just dont tell you what the role is until you're in the final round of auditions
>t. auditioned once
The snow white girl everyone on this website is complaining about got her her first role in west side story (disney movie) by auditioning on twitter
She obviously wasn't the only one to audition.
>And they were like "she doesn't have any acting experience but frick it! She is the only muslim teenager in the world!"
where are you getting this bullshit from? you claim you have worked in film but you don't know how casting and auditions work?
Thank you Marvel studios PR, really needed that presentation nobody asked
I accept your concession
No real coincidences or Cinderella stories in Hollywood.
She should just shut the frick up
>HURR DURR MR FEIGI MCU IS ACTUALLY NOT 616 ITS 69420911!!!
>B-BUT HOW DID MYSTERIO KNOW THE MCU IS 616!!!
God just shut the frick up you stupid b***h
>Who is Iman Vellani?
a big tit muslim girl
>Iman Vellani is the first actress withouth any acting experience
oh it shows
Does it? She is fantastic
Didn't read
based webm poster
There's this thing they do called "auditions" anon
this is actually interesting to me.
Having seen the show I can see exactly why she was cast, she has a lot of charisma and charm.
Don't think this b***h was an actor either
not too many deaf Native American actresses with some athletic background
so her power is just Mr Fantastic? whats the point?
No it isn't in the show you moron
Didn't they change her powers for the series? Anyway, the point is that Disney wanted a new diverse superhero.
They really cast this hottie and made her a side character instead of the lead.
Stacy sisters... I don't feel so good
They do that on purpose now to save money if the character they want is going to be around for a while. They learned from RDJ that every time you re up their contract they can get incredibly expensive so you hire a relative nobody who has no quote.
This is actually the more reasonable answer so far, instead of "they want muslim girl they could inf only one muslim girl duh"
You mean they CAST someone!? HOW!? CASTING AGENTS? THOSE DON'T EXIST, IT'S ALL A CONSPIRACY!
Newsflash, there is not a gigantic abundance of young Pakistani-American actresses. Hell even Iman is Pakistani-Canadian.
Autism and low IQ is one hell of a combo
They did the same with the guy they cast as Han Solo in Solo.
He was just some guy a israeli guy who was friends with some israeli director met at a bar mitzvah or some shit and hit it off with. So he hooked him up with the gig and he got acting lessons on set.
Who is this show for? Pakistani teenaged girls from the NYC and New Jersey area? This show is foul to watch for a number of reasons. The constant cultural references, the terrible CGI, the shit powers, the overweight female lead and actual islamic prayer being shown. Who can watch this and not feel intense disgust and nausea? Her powers are shit-tier too.
Its a family show, someone at Disney obviously wanted the CW demographic
Bros, I just hacked into the FBI database.
OP is right. No person with the name Iman Vellani has ever been born...
Never mess with simp kingdom man
Stop shilling this garbage.
The show is not that bad
Yes it is you fricking shill.
Op hit a nerve lol.
>t. OP
